London seems a logical choice, especially with Rockstar North's British roots.

London would be by far my first choice if they were to go outside of the US.

When considering what is next after GTA V, you must consider the fact that it'll be on next-gen consoles which we don't know it's true power obviously. With that said, if it's returning to Vice City, I hope we see a small version of the state of Florida including the likes of Miami (Vice City but bigger than the version a decade ago!) that stretches up to Orlando along the east coast to Tampa, all the way back down to the Everglades and Key West. Maybe that's asking much, maybe it's not. Who knows.

Whatever happens, if we are returning to Liberty City. I'll be disappointed.

    +1 on that idea.

I'd hope they know they've covered Liberty City to the max.

The obvious next choice is a return to Vice City. However, they may try to mix things up and do something outside of the US. The obvious choice would be London there.

I think the problem with the likes of cities based on Detroit or Chicago would be that they'd essentially be Liberty City 2.0. They're just cities. Vice City (Miami) has the beaches and nightlife, San Andreas had the countryside, desert and nightlife of Las Venturas. But I can't see what Chicago or Detroit would offer which Liberty City hasn't.

Maybe they'd do a bit of a Red Dead Redemption on it and have a city like Tuscon or a Texas-type city but on the Mexican border, and have two cities, one in America and one in Mexico. Get involved in the Mexican drug war and cartel, missions where you have to cross the border illegally. End up with both the US and Mexican governments trying to hunt you down.

They are aiming for a global market with these games. I'd imagine just about everyone in the world is familiar with LA and New York through movies and TV.

The only other cities with that much of a profile would be London or Paris.

In terms of iconography, Miami or Chicago's not quite at that level.

That's the trouble I see with moving to another city that doesn't have that much of a distinct difference from the other. Liberty/NY is too similar in make-up to that of most big American cities. Places like LA, Miami, New Orleans differ as they aren't skyscraper cities and have more urban sprawl rather than one large built up urban area. Something like Texas/Mexico would open up a rather diverse avenue of missions and areas to explore.

Maybe they'll do something like GTA2 where it wasn't set in any named city and referred to as Anywhere, USA.

Have to agree with the previous sentiment that if the first place they go to in the next-gen era is Liberty, it will be very disappointing.

What worries me is that Liberty City is their go to city for their first GTA game on next gen consoles.

While I wouldn't be upset if it were London like some are suggesting, I'm not overly keen on it admittedly

At a push, maybe setting a game in Brazil if they go outside of America is something they have in mind. Foundation is there to an extent after Max Payne 3.

Wouldnt mind a mission branch in somewhere like London (like Mexico in RDR, story started and finished in USA, with a spell in Mexico in the middle), but I wouldnt be too thrilled about having to play there the entire time. GTA London wasnt good, even compared to GTA 1.

Made up American city that can be designed however they wanted, with a branch to somewhere like London would be good.

I'd like to see a Dublin (small city, with lots of boats, big port), London (car orientated, with ring motorway, car customisation) and Amsterdam (mainly on foot location with bikes and boats)

Doing drug courier missions, empire buidling. Rising through the ranks of the criminal underworld, dealing with Yardies in London, Triads, Turkish and Russian Mafia.

Walking through GTA's version of the red light and blue light districts would be hilarious in a city where the herb is tolorated. Could make for some crazy GTAness.

I doubt they'll go to Liberty City again. The leap from GTA3 LC to GTA4 LC was huge, but I can't imagine the next leap in graphics to be so huge that they'd think they could improve the city enough to warrant revisiting it.

For a GTA VI i'd like to see a remake of the city from GTA 2 and all the gangs that inhabited it. Something original as opposed to returning and re-returning to the 3 principal cities of GTA 1.

    Wut?

I know Sleeping Dogs was set in Hong Kong (and isn't in Japan!), so maybe it's off putting now to them, but the city I always wanted to see Rockstar tackle is Tokyo.

They do need to open the game up tbh. London would most likely be bad, but then I'm using the Getaway as an example.

Somewhere like Japan or Rio would be beast!

I've seen a few people use The Getaway as a reason for game not to be set in London... What was so bad about The Getaway? I played Black Monday and loved it, despite some flaws when it came to controls and the indicators flashing gameplay mechanic.

I can't necessarily speak for Black Monday but the original Getaway was just kinda boring. Missions were very generic and there wasn't much to do outside of missions. It was also a pretty realistic version of London, but the trouble with that means it was kinda bland and uninteresting (not saying that of London itself, but as the setting for a game compared to other games in the same genre, it was bland).

How about a New Orleans type location? Small city with a lot of culture behind it, Everglades and swamp kinda locations, plus its like Redneck-central. Could be pretty fun.

    Mexico City?

Kidnap capital, plenty of drugs, abject poverty vrs. oppulence, colonial history, plus you can throw in the border with the US which many have been calling for.

Not a bad idea, but the whole free roam thing in New Orleans was done in Infamous 2. Might not be a bad idea to see rockstars take on it though

I didn't realize you could get your health back by leaning against a wall.

It took me ages to complete the last mission and only afterwards did my cousin tell me of this trick :pac:

Yeah, I had that in mind awhile back but I can't see them bothering with it for the reason you gave. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Mexico city is a long way from the U.S. border.

Dont have to call it Mexico City, just base it on it.

I'm pretty sure New York isnt just four islands like in GTA IV. All the GTA games are only roughly based on a city.
