The attendance thing is a bit weird though, there is three days a week in my course that attendance isn't taken, how will that work?

Same for me I'm only in 4 days a week, also I was on midterm for October, how would that factor in?

Well I've not even been in college for 6 weeks and I've one more week to do I've been on work placement so I'm not sure how they will check my attendance either. Good news for me is my TD rang on Friday and I've been awarded my grant not sure how much or when as susi haven't told me yet but I'm very grateful of the effort my TD went to as my application was sent in early and all documents went missing.

I don't know if it helps anyone but here's an email I sent susi.I thought I'd make answering easy for them , yes or no.

    Q. Is it correct that you must be sent a record of attendance from the students college before a payment can be made ?

    A. You will have to contact your college regarding this as they provide susi with attendance updates.

My son has asked at his college, they don't send attendance records & didn't know they had to. So, I don't know & I get the impression neither susi or the colleges do either.

The VEC were very strict last year, if you missed more than five days you lost the months grant.

My email to them was sent on November 12th , they replies November 30th.

Gonna have to ask my college so, cause i've never missed any days, but have missed lectures, albeit some were attendance lectures, hmm.

The max is €5,915. Which is the special non-adjacent rate.

You can check all levels here:

Is there a distinction between attendance records and the "certificate of attendance" which most colleges issue which states "X is enrolled on Y course full time 2012-2013?"

Also, I dealt with SUSI this week via facebook, and when they had answered my Query, I said thanks, and that being able to contact them via facebook was very handy. They replied back asking if I could possibly post on their page about how they had helped quickly and promptly so that others may see.

I felt this request was a bit unorthodox, and I given I have had generally very few good experiences with SUSI, I don't think I should do it. Surely if someone contacts them via facebook and gets a query resolved then that should be the extent of it without having to broadcast to the world that they actually fulfilled a basic function of what they are meant to do?

It's bullsh*t, looking for recognition for something so basic like that. I myself have messaged them on Facebook last Wednesday & haven't received a reply yet.

Was meant to get paid Friday but still nothing, I have money to pay out too like!

I was in the final review stage for about a month and a half give or take a week. My mother got in contact with our local td and I got my money within a week. I suggest you get into contact with your local td or counsellor as soon as. :)

Sorry, forgot to say thinks for this post.

Though hearing you were waiting a month and half isn't great. Hopefully they can at least get mine before Christmas so I can get home and have some bit of respite from the financial stress.

Still waiting. I sent them utility bills for 14 months (all meteor phone bills) which i attached a note to saying i wished to use it to cover the financial independence and also proof of my address. About 6 weeks later i got a letter back saying that I forgot to include all the necessary documents (ie that i needed to send other utility bills). Disappointed but glad I got some feedback! :P

Mobile phone bills are no good. Need to send landline bills or ESB bills.

It would seem unlikely that you may get your money for Christmas but I suppose anything is possible! But, good luck anyways :-)

All they want is for people to know that they do actually get back to you efficiently. So many people complain about SUSI but give them a break! They are doing the best they can!

This means that you don't have to pay any of your fees. SUSI are paying for all your fees. You don't pay a penny.

Also the college will reimburse your 7000 euro. SUSI sould ring them and pay them 7000 euro on your behalf; if SUSI doesn't ring them, then bring in the letter that SUSI sent you.

    Congrats!

Sorry dude. I can understand them being slow due to understaffing or something else, but they have no excuses for loosing my documents. I've lost any respect to them since they ****ed that up

    I'm not certain.

Can you give you us the exact wording on the letter?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yes but unfortunately I submitted my application the 16th of June, had to send documents twice, was overlooked for assessment, had incorrect details on the system which contrasted with what I submitted, had to contact them numerous times, was given contrasting information, had 1 out of 8 emails replied to, and it took two days for them to reply on facebook. I don't see this as very prompt, and what he asked me to say, was not my experience. That and I generally don't want to indicate to others I am applying for financial assistance on facebook. I think this is quite private, but I really do appreciate your point in that those who have had consistently good experiences might decide to promote what they do, but unfortunately they have been few and far between. :)

Hi mango salsa, it said, award- full maintenance and 100 percent fees non adjacent, and then it just stated the amount of maintenance, 3024.99 euro!

I think you should contact SUSI to clarify the fee part.

It's not clear from that letter if they are covering tuition fees and the student contribution. Contact them through facebook or twitter.

Why are they looking for so much information? The inland revenue don't even require this much information.

I'm a third year student. Sent off for renewal of grant application like normal.
Apparently not good enough for SUSI. "We require a full set of accounts". A full set of accounts? Fine. Done that. There you go.

Got another letter. "This isn't the full set of accounts". Accountant says it is. Have to pay him €100 to create the most detailed full set of accounts he's ever done. He's telling me the actual inland revenue don't require as much detail.

Sent this to them about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely everything they need now right?

Nope. Ring them up today to double check that there is some progress on my application. They need MORE information.

    Details of details of details.

This is absolutely out of hand at this point. People are dropping out of college because of this carry on. How can we give them any more information??? We have given them absolutely everything we can. Our accountant has told us that there is no more information that can possibly be given. Who are we even dealing with anymore? Is this just a joke?

Ask the college have they sent the attendance to SUSI?

    Contact SUSI again through facebook - explain everything you have said here;

that the college are not sending attendances
that your friend is getting paid

Ask them can they please clarify why are you still not getting money. Ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. Be polite but insistent that you have been receiving unclear information and can they give you clear information.

Keep detailed notes on every contact with SUSI.

I am not having any luck getting a reply from Facebook. Do you have to 'like' before you send a message?

I don't want to 'like'... I ****ing hate them!
