I see Merlin auctions are selling off rathdown motors cars and workshop equipment on Saturday.
I wonder what the prices will be like. Should be interesting enough seeing as the cars seem tasty enough and it was retail stock. I guess there will not be too many bargains to be had though. Still someone could pick up a nice garage lift or other tools and the 1000 bidding deposit might keep a lot of clowns from bidding.

Full list for anyone who is interested, cars would be going for around the €10k plus mark I would say, not many bangers for the common man ;)...

Nice tools and a couple of car ramps for sale too, would be nice for myself if I had the space :o

There still must a decent saving importing certain cars from the UK judging from the amount of stock either still on a UK reg plate or in miles.

    LOT 18 Audi A8

I am away the weekend, but would be curious to see what the 2012 A8 might fetch (LOT18)
If anyone can post what it makes it would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Just to clarify & save boards form trouble they didn't go bust! Business is being closed down by the owners

It was a loss making enterprise, though. Losses were being covered by profits made elsewhere in the group

Whats the story regarding any comeback when you buy a car at auction? Are they sold as seen? I presume theres no chance of a test drive or anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

No test drive. No warranty. No comeback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,845 ✭✭✭discombobulate

No test drive. No warranty. No comeback.
So theres no onus on them to admit any faults etc? And if you buy the car and find all sorts of issues your screwed? Sounds like risky enough business there. Surely there has to be a few comebacks on it i.e. if you bought it and it was a complete donkey and couldn't even drive it away from the place

No test drive. No warranty. No comeback.

To be fair the stuff that is being offered looks very good and high end
It is totally different auction you`d be used to.

There's no comebacks AT ALL. That's the whole point of buying cars at an auction, you could be buying a gem or a lemon which is why you should be well experienced before placing a bid on any sort of car at an auction.

I agree. The risk should be quite low on most of the lots. I wasnt trying to suggest otherwise. I just answered the questions about test drives and warranty as asked by the poster above.

Also, the high quality of the lots and associated low risk will probably be reflected in the prices fetched tomorrow.

This had a window price of under €9k when they were flogging their stock as cheap as possible the last few weeks but is still there

Lot 44. I know it's a 2l petrol on old tax - and looks like boggo spec but that could go for a song

Think i'll avoid auctions myself so although I presume you'd be fairly safe when the source is somewhere like these. Always nice motors in that garage any time I drove by. Shame to see it going.

    Went for €48k I think. VRT €20k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Went there 3 times with the missus looking about changing the motor.

Left details and was promised a call back.....

    Never heard a jot.

    Bought elsewhere.

Anybody know how much the white 320d coupe went for? I was looking at it on carzone about 2 months ago but they were looking for fairly strong money so I went elsewhere

Does anyone have price info on the garage equipment? Particularly the scissors lifts and the autologic diag gear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,196 ✭✭✭Mech1

    Autologic went for €7.5K

    Exterior lift €1K

blue scissor lifts €800 approx if i remember right,

    4 poster €900

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Cheers, the lifts weren't bad value so. I called in for a quick look this morning but couldn't make the auction itself. Thought I would be able to bid online but it would only work for the cars not for the garage equipment.

Jesus I thought that would have gone back to the trade before the auction. Not a bad price

You would have been wasting your time. Whoever bought it will be writing Merlin a cheque for over €28k.
