Age difference in relationships

I recently heard of a couple that have a 15 year age difference between them. They are both in their later years now but at the time they were married I believe he was in his early 30s so she would have been late teens, maybe 20 when they got together.

Has anyone ever heard of some questionable age differences between people in relationships that made you feel weird? What is the acceptable age difference for relationships to occur? And is it worse if a older man is with a young girl, ie. teenager compared to an older woman with a young boy, assuming the age difference is the same in both examples?

As long as they're both adults and on the same wavelength, who cares?

Old reliable! What if your age is an odd number, eg. 25 then the acceptable age is 19 and a half years old. Do you round up or down?

I'm 25 and have been with a few 18 year olds. As long as it's not illegal I don't see the problem, it's mostly others that have the problem IMO.

It was acceptable in the 80's.

    You round down to 15.

Mammy and Daddy of the younger party I would say.... Also consider the fact that while lots of couples are genuinely in love (awwwwwww) and the age isn't really relevant, some guys use their age and experience to manipulate younger girls because they make easier targets

The day I stop chasing after eighteen year olds will be the day I stop breathing.

If the younger party is an adult, it shouldn't matter what Mammy and Daddy say. I'm not gonna lie and say they were delighted about the few age gap relationships I've had (they see more than 3 years as a huge gap :pac: ), but they pretty much leave me to my own devices. If an adult woman is in a place emotionally where she is likely to be manipulated, I can guarantee you it's not only older men who take advantage of that.

So age of consent only applies if the person is within a few years of your own? If the person is any older, you automatically become an underage bumbling idiot again who can't make decisions.

Let me see. I've been with a 27 year old when I was 21.

That lasted nearly a year. And I've been with an 18 year old at 28.

That lasted a couple of months. Both were great.

Age difference is not a problem. Either Way

I was kinda paranoid when I started seeing my last serious GF I had because there was a 6 year difference between us - she was 26 and I was 32.

Turned out she was far more mature than me.

Age gaps dont matter. If two people wanna be together who the hell cares :)

But within saying that if I heard of an 18yo girl being with a 48yo man... Of course I would raise an eyebrow and think to myself "she's using him" - But my opinion dont matter. Live and let live.

Given the naive attitude teenaged girls have toward older guys I find guys in their mid to late twenties dating such girls seedy and manipulative.

I was with a 23 year old when I was 18. She felt kind of guilty but sure I thought it was awesome... Saying that it was defo more of a physical relationship than anything I'd had before that and I think her age played a factor in that because she was much more experienced than me. Now I'm nearly 23 and well 18 is definitely as low as I would go, I would feel too guilty if she was any younger.

I'd be the opposite and go after the 25 year olds. If it's for the laugh and a bit of fun, fuck all harm in it

I'd be willing to go ten years up, but not under 18. So anyone 18 - 29 is ok for me, I guess.

You really do give away your lack of years. "Feel weird" ? that sounds like something my 14yo nephew might say. And who on earth are you referring to when you say 'acceptable' ? Acceptable to who ?

A couple of years ago when I was 53, I dated a 28yo professional business lady for about a year. Age is a only a number. People don't come off a production line and are as different from each other as chalk and cheese. One person can be old at heart before they get to 30, while others can still be young at heart at 65.
Short and long relationships are also very different. Being able to share cultural experience is more important in a long term relationship, and a 53yo has little in common with a 28yo when it comes to sharing life's cultural experiences such as music, movies, politics, history etc.

Had two. I love the older women. One was 16 years older and the other was 21 years older! Was never going to last but I've memories that will last a life time from them.

I think my love of older women stems from watching to much mature porn when I was a spotty horny teenager!

I'm 24 and I live in Ireland so I think 17 is both the legal and socially accepted age I can go after.

    Pile of sh!te.

If you're happy with the person (and they're of legal age) then enjoy it and have fun.

    18+
What is legal age in Ireland? Is it 17 or 18?

Once both parties are adults, let them go nuts. Not many relationships with a big age gap go the full haul, but let them have fun while they're at it.
Especially for us old men :D

As long as the person is not underaged, then it shouldn't be a problem. Its up to the individual. Its others who are outside the relationship who will have a problem. But is there any relationship where the outsiders are ever satisfied about? Life does not go on forever. Live it to the fullest without nay sayers demoralizing you. Enjoy your relationship and forget about the age.
