I was also told this when picking up mine at Gamestop. If it bricks because I power it off I can't return it to them, I need to go back to nintendo directly. It's not covered in the warranty apparently.

Consumer law would seem to state otherwise, or am I mistaken?

Not that anyone would be obliged to say anything other than "I bought this Wii U here, it doesn't power on anymore. Not sure whats wrong with it". Job done.

I believe the onus is on the vendor to ensure the product is fit for purpose. I reckon "it stopped working after i switched it off once" would qualify as not fit for purpose.

    Something about sandwiches

    Here's a weird question.
That Wii username business, can I register one online before I get a Wii U, or do I have to wait til I get it?
The reason I ask is that I really really want a specific username, and I'm worried it might be gone by the time I get a Wii U.

Every app and game I use also requires an update constantly looking at update screens even black ops takes 20 minute update its going to be a long christmas day for parents and kids trying to first connect to the internet then sit through hours of updates

Does Nintendo land come with the ZombieU bundle in HMV?, I could sworn it did first when I put my deposit down mid-November.

Sorry if this has already been answered but is the ZombiU Wii U package only exclusive to the first round of consoles or will there be more in the coming weeks?

Well damn, I've also noticed that the girl at HMV also didn't discount my pre-order either from the main package.

You mean the deposit you paid? That's clearly a mistake on her part.

For what its worth i bought nintendoland too, and so far zomiu is by far the better game (early days, mind you). Also i havent tried any multiplayer yet.

Does the console tell you not to turn off your console during the update?
Not following instructions doesn't make an item unfit for purpose.
Going direct to Nintendo is the best way to go for quick resolution, rather than the SCC

Not sure it was you or someone else I warned, but they are the most unreliable shower of wasters in the world. I wouldn't order or preorder off them to save my life...

Just got mine! :-D Feel like a kid at Christmas!

Where did you get your bundle? Was it the ZombiU bundle?

I think it's supposed to be exclusive to the first batch, but you never know. The whole launch has been shrouded in (a really irritating) uncertainty since the beginning. For all we know they could actually have stacks of them in reserve while they create a palpable level of 'want' around them...

Have nintendo acknowledged there is a problem? I would say if they have (which would be the case if they fix/replace the console) then gamestop would have to accept that too.

Anyway, i'm no expert, i'm planning to follow the instructions to the letter to be on the safe side. :-D

There is no problem. Switching off any console during a firmware update will very likely brick it. This is just media sensationalism mixed with a twinge of stupidity.

The pro controller is not compatible with mario for some reason not saying you bought them for mario but its stupid that it doesnt work anyway

Meant to ask, are the servers for online play and the Miiiverse worldwide or just regionalised? I know the Direct had Iwata calling Reggie, but maybe that was due to being on the friends list.

Don't worry about that. The system Nintendo are using allows for multiples of the same name as each Mii is given a unique user ID which is what is used to identify individual people online.
