Good idea lid. One thing though, I did try connecting two devices to the box last night and both were recognised correctly so I wonder if it might work for you. Not sure if it is a good idea; I don't know if there are two usb ports in the box or just one wired to both interfaces but thought I'd let you know. Do let us know if you sort it out.

Instructions for Ariva 150 model only recovery with null modem cable.

Recovery instructions for boxes temporarily bricked.

    1. Download the firmware. Extract the .abs file from this zipped file to somewhere obvious (desktop for example).

    2. Download the Erom Upgrade tool for the 150

    Extract the files.

    3. Connect your PC from its serial port to the boxes R232 port using the Null modem cable. Make sure box is off at switch on back.

    4. Double click the ArivaUpgrader.exe file that was extracted. It will pull up a dialog box. Select the Com port - default is 1. Baud Rate should be 115200. Parity=Even. Operate Mode= Upgrade. Include bootloader should be ticked.

Pick the software you extracted as per No.1 above in the browse bar.

Click next. Turn box on. Box will reboot when the file gets to 100%.

    Quick question lads.

Can anyone tell me how to get in the red button channels on the Ariva 150? Missing the rugby on BBC 2 NI.

Two ways; when you scanned the satellite channels if you see a channel labelled 6390 (or 6391) then this is the red button channel. I see both right now with different things on them so maybe there are two. But I think the BBC reduced the red button channels to just one recently.
Alternatively you can do a scan of a single transponder frequency; it's 10773H for the 6390 channel. It's easy enough just go to the menu option TP List (second list of options), select this frequency and scan.

All the channels are listed at this link

just got this box during the week, having problems with the timer. I can pause live tv and record programs that are on currently but when I set something to record from the EPG using the green button it doesn't record. I can see the entry in the timer setting menu but they never record.

I have tried an external usb drive and stick.

    any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

When you set the timer, the second option is Timer Service. Make sure this is set to Record (it is set to channel by default) so that it doesn't just wake the channel but records. I've been caught out on this a few times. Silly default to be honest.

On the USB stick watch out for the write speed. I had a verbatim stick that I was trying out. It works okay but if timeshift (live tv) is enabled or I'm recording anything then I see a slowdown of channel switching. Don't know that this amount of activity on a USB stick is a good idea anyway. The manual gives a minimum write speed (9MB/s I think) so you can always run a test on the stick to see if it is fast enough.

that was exactly the problem, thanks a million! should have figured that out but it's not too obvious!

I tried this there, followed instructions exactly, and it says it's failed? Initialising STB?

First of all, hello everybody, and if the following post needs to be a seperate thread, please spliti it.

I just received an Ariva 150. I was so happy about it because I read very good things.
Unfortunately, problems started from day 0.
First of all, it does not seem to connect to network. I tried with DHCP, I tried with manual addresses, nothing. Cable works 100%, since any other device works when connected.

The second problem I am having is that I cannot setup the second sat. Me previous receiver, >5 year old model, worked with Diseqc 1.0, although my device is a Diseqc 2.0 model. While in Antenna setup menu, Hotbird (sat 1/2) has 90/75 (intensity/qty). When switching to Astra 2A (sat 2/2), my stats are 45/10, while with my previous receiver they were 85/65.

Following instructions from the manual, I noticed that while changing ports in Antenna setting menu, from 1 to 4 (Diseqc 1.0), and any port on Diseqc 1.1, Hotbird kept its stats, like nothing was changing. Same behaviour I had for Astra, but with low stats. From my point of view, it seems like nothing is changing and it cannot switch ports. Some incompatibility maybe? Am I doing somehting wrong here?

    Please advice

    1) Is your second (reception/switch) problem solved ? I have just the same problem with my brandnew Ariva202e. Tested witch 4 different 4x1switches and NOT working (working now and then.....) , cable lenght to receiver is less than 20m , switch(es) are working well witch "low-cost" KÖNIG SDRC10 receiver and Homecat 9000 receiver. So I think cause of the problem is Ariva unit.

    2) A week ago , youtube (and other stuff....) without any problem but since a couple of days : always network is unavailable.....(wireless or even cabled)

    3) Ariva has latest software.....an has reset to factory setting several times.

    regards.

The box must be switched off at the back and switched on after you click next on the software.

Are you using a null modem cable (not a usb to null modem)?

The meter readings on diseqc enabled screens are not always accurate. When you go to the channels themselves or go to tune them they will. For some reason the strongest diseqc seems to ponly show.

However it will work. When you press the EDIT (white) button on the remote it will give you accurate meter readings. Its a software glitch.

The network not available problems could be due to a range of issues. Have you DHCP enabled ? Press the back button after turning it on and it will give out an IP address immediately.

Warning light flashing over the television

    Any ideas??

Checked all connections, turned on/off set, nothing in the manual about warning light!

I Cannot select transmitters or cannot switch properly between my 4 LNB’s (Astra1Astra3 Astra2 and Hotbird) without having always reception with image (FTA or Scrambled…. and of course I use a fitted smart-card for the Scrambled signals…..) .

    For example :

    1) If I select a transmitter ,for example , on Astra 3 , I have no image (waiting 5-10 seconds).

    2) When I select another transmitter , for example , on Astra 1 , I have image.

    3) When I go back to the same transmitter as in 1) , then I got image !

    4) When I select again the same transmitter as in 2) , there is a big chance that there is no image !

Thisis happening on all 4 LNB’s

    Another example :

When I do a transmitter scan on all 4 satellites at once , a lot of known transmitters (FTAand Scrambled) are missing in the reception list. When I do another scan (after deleting the first scan) , other (or same as in first scan) transmitters are missing in the reception list. So I had a lot of work to have my wanted transmitters……(manual scan on specific transponder)

Only if I repeatly switch several times between the 4 LNB’s (with a working remote control) I got reception and image on the transmitter that I want…..

To select another transmitter , I have to do the same thing again, sometimes it works (= reception with image) , sometimes it does not work (= no reception and no image).

Tested with a cable lengt of +/- 10m between receiver and 4to1switch. the Satellite signal is strong ,weakest signal is 85% , and has good quality ,more than 80% , (checked by EDIT button) .

And that is just weird . If I have reception and image on, for example BBC1 with strong signal and good quality (viewed by EDIT button) , and I switch to another satellite and then go back to BBC1 , it happens there is no reception or image anymore , and the EDIT button says "no signal and bad quality......" this is happening on all LNB's , as long that I stay on the same LNB of Satellite there is no problem , the moment I switch to a other LNB or Satellite the problem occurs most of the time .
The solution at this stage is "zapping" between LNB's or satellites until I have reception....

I tried 4 different brands of 4to1switchers (Johanson 9214 , FUD 2W , HQ SatSwitch 20W andEMP Centauri S4/1PCN-W1) but always with the same bad result .

I tried with my “older Low-Cost Koenig SDCR10” and Homecast 9000 receiver, even with a longer cable length (about 20m) between 4to1switch and these receivers ,and I had immediate reception with image without any problems , on all 4 LNB’s.

So, the problem is not the 4to1switch and neither the remote control…..

Ariva is upgraded with latest “genuine” Ferguson Ariva 202E software V1.20B6 andseveral “factory resettings” have been done.

    Regards.

Sounds like a short circuit, disconnect the dish and see if the warning disappears. If it does you have a problem with your connectors, cable or lnb.

    Cheers for that

disconnected the dish cable, warning disappeared,
What connectors might be the issue? the dish cable? Would I need to put in a new cable? Or the connector at the end of the dish cable?

Might a factory reset solve anything?
Whats an lnb by the way?

I'm using a null modem - I noticed this problem arose previously with a guy <Ollie> whom you helped, I think this is an identical situation!

Here is where you've previously helped someone - seems like this is a regular problem you've fixed!

    Ok another update:

Have all downloaded, ran the tool, get the result "Initialize STB sdram is failed. Click Back to try again"

I got this tool from cccam-exchange because I could not download from ferguson.

    2) Different error this time - "Set stb memory error."

    Hagrid,

I don't know anything about cccam-exchange but I'd suggest you get the code from the ferguson site before you do anything else. Why can't you download from the ferguson site? Is it your own PC that you're using? If so, then no reason you shouldn't be able to download or, if it's your anti-virus software blocking it, then disabling it temporarily. Or even better, work out why ferguson would be blocked; it shouldn't be.

    Best of luck.

I got the firmware from the Ferguson site, but the pc is prevented from downloading the upgrader tool for some reason (work pc). So I found what seems to be the same program on that cccam-exchange site.

I think the work pc's just configured that way. But the program I got from ccc- seems to be the same from Ferguson - STB EROM Upgrade 2.0.0c 2009-05-22 - Step 1 Configure -

I read somewhere that someone tried the same thing over and over then they finally got somewhere, I wonder will I have to be flicking this button all day to get results?!

    Cheers

    Thanks for that reply

At this stage, should I just call in a repair man to sort it out?

Seems odd that the ferguson download is blocked but the cccam-exchange download is not. When you say the program seems the same how are you judging that? I'd be very reluctant to run a program from a site you don't know and trust. And this could be the reason you are having difficulties. Be aware that just running programs off the internet leaves you vulnerable to malware and virus infection.

I think you need to sort that download out before trying anything else; you're likely just wasting your time on this otherwise.

    I agree its odd.

Judging it based on my use of the program downloaded from Ferguson on my laptop over the weekend (no RS232 port on laptop so got no further than seeing what the program looked like).

Thanks for the warnings, I understand the risks associated with downloading and executing programs from "Googled" sites - but I have no access to the Ferguson site - unless there is a way to email me the Upgrade tool?

    Thanks

    - Here is the warning I get when I try to download the Upgrader:

Looks like you would have the same problem then if you emailed the file to yourself in work. I think that McAffee is a network version checking stuff as it comes in via your gateway. What about taking it in on a usb stick? If the PC isn't running McAffee locally then that might work. Might be sending you down the wrong track but I'd make sure the code you are running is correct before proceeding with any other fixes. And STB certainly seems to know what should work.

Have to say, I think the anti-virus code is just plain wrong.

I have it all on usb yes, again the lovely mcafee blocked it.

STB surely does know whats what... Its a pity that one of the links is confusing the computer here. McAfee.

Well if McAffee is blocking the definitive Ferguson copy (mistakenly) but not the cccam-exchange version then they're not the same file. It may be a fault with your box but I'm not so sure and until you try the real ferguson version you won't know.

Get rid of McAfee. Its rubbish:( Install MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) which you can get free from microsoft.ie. That will solve the blocking issue.
