Well, I must express my gratitude for all your help. At this time of night it would be "dangerous" to get into the above!!!! I will attempt tomorrow when I'm more awake! If you don't mind, I'll be back to you then. Cheers for now.

ps - I only got the boxes recently, so only learning still. I do have a second one in another room which I will check out tomorrow also.

No problem. Once you get used to them, you will realise how easy they are to get around. Once you get it right on one box and sorted to your own choice, then you can save those settings to a usb stick and copy them to the other box (assuming they are the same model).

Hi STB. No success I'm sorry to report. Did all you suggested - copy of latest version, factory setting, scan for channels - but no luck. I tested it on my spare room box ( Ariva 150 also ) and noticed that I don't have Sky News or CNN which I did have before I carried out the above - any idea why?

    Thanks again.

Your dish is not aligned properly. Sky News, Food Network, CBS Drama, Challenge TV all on Weak transponders (frequencies for simplicity).

It means that the dish needs slight tweaking a notch or two with perhaps also a little twisting of the lnb on the dish (skew).

How long is the cable run from the dish ?

How long as in distance? Chimney is just above the two rooms - a bungalow.

ps - have to head away for a few hours. Catch up later?

I was wondering if the ariva 150 can be used as a web browser ie facebook, twitter etc.. or only use with what is setup on it?

Has anyone got info for me please waiting to see if its worth buying this combo box

I bought two Ariva 150's for my parents and they've been working fine for the passed few weeks, but then yesterday they rang me and said they can't get some of the Irish channels. They appear to only be able to get RTE1, it says 'No Signal' for the rest of the Irish channels. All the UK freesat channels are working fine, this appears to be only an issue with the Irish channels on both boxes at the same time. They also have a 3rd Soarview box that they got in Powercity and all the Irish channels work perfectly on that. I got them to do a re-scan on the Ariva 150's, but still no luck, they're still only able to get RTE1. RTE2, TV3, 3e and TG4 all say 'No Signal'. I'm completely puzzled. I haven't been out to the house yet, but I will probably have to call by tomorrow to have a look at it. Has anyone any idea what's happening here. I've two Ariva 150's myself and I've never had any issues at all with them.

Might be worth looking at the end of the channel list to see if they have been duplicated.

When you re-scan the Irish channels on the Ariva 150 they don't duplicate to the end of the list like the satellite channels do, the irish channels just over-write on their current place on the channels list. I got them to power off the box and reboot, but still the same issue - they're only able to get RTE1 and the rest are 'No Signal'. Their 3rd soarview box works fine so its not an aerial or local transmitter issue or anything, but the funny was that it happened both boxes at the same time. They're not connected to each or in anyway or anything.

Strange as that's not my experience. In that case delete all the terrestrial tv and radio channels and then re scan

When I get over to their house tomorrow, I'll back up the channels list via 'Dump', do a factory reset, upgrade the latest firmware and then reload the channels list, delete the terrestial channels and then do a re-scan. That's my plan anyway, and I'm praying that'll work. I'll bring my own Ariva 150 box to test there as well.

I would advise against doing that as channel lists should not be uploaded to different firmware versions. Why not just delete terrestrial and re scan as a first step ?

Ok, I'll try that and update on how it goes.

Any help with internet question with regards if you can get other web sites other than what's programmed into it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

    Hey Highlander,
I had a play around with the internet connection and didn't find anything other than the preprogrammed sites. So I think no, there isn't an option for browsing.

Thank you PatchZ for your response I was afraid it was not internet friendly.

    Thanks again

This would seem to me to be an alignment issue. Slightly nudging the dish east or west and/or the elevation and skew should sort this issue.

The transponders you are missing Sky News etc would point towards a dish not perfectly aligned.

You could load a pre scanned channel list for the 150 which will help with this alignment in the event that you dont have a sat meter. I dont have a channel list for the 150.

STB - thanks for reply. Forgive my ignorance - does the nudging involve physical action or is it done via the box? I have no idea either regarding a pre scanned channel list for the 150! If you can't be of any further help - no problem.

Nudging etc is at the dish itself.

People can share channel lists a pre scanned list is one where someone has already scanned the channels. It will confirm that the satellite signal is due to the satellite dish positioning and would help in relation to the tweaking in the event that you dont have a sat meter. Volume up full on Sky News whilst adjusting dish if you get the idea or someone giving you a shout when you have it perfect.

    Thats if you do rooftops!

I recently saw an elderly person with one of these Ferguson Ariva 150s being irked when they accidentally pressed button 2 four times such that a non-existing channel ‘2222’ was dialed in.
Up came prompt which stayed on solid:

    "No such a channel!
    Yes"

Attempting to key in another channel number was unresponsive. and the prompt stayed on (it did not time out after a few seconds)

To get rid of the prompt you have to press the 'OK' button on the remote but this elderly person did not know this, and had in the past resorted to turning the box off and on again !!

Would it not have made life easier if the prompt immediately disappeared if another channel number was entered, and otherwise would time out after a few seconds ?

I don't know if the box (bought a few weeks ago locally) has an older software version or not, is the above the case with the latest Ariva 150s ??

A timeout would be useful ok but making the prompt disappear with a numeric entry would cause problems for other parts of the menu.

    Hi guys,

Had the 150 for a few months now. Anybody recently lost all their satellite radio channnels? Suddenly all mine are gone. Am not aware of having changed anything. Everything else is fine AFAIK.

Any suggestions for how to fix it?

    Thanks

Not just the BBCs radio stations then? the BBCs have recently moved to new locations. Dunno why all your radio stations might have gone though, but when you re-tune them I suggest you save all stations on a USB stick in case they disappear again :))

PS: On my Ariva HD 120 you must be in TV mode 'all channels' before you can access the radio stations.

Hi guys, I bought one of this ariva 150's. I have access to connect it to a satellite or just a standard aerial. It would be easier to connect to the aerial but is there any benefit to connecting to the satellite?

The Irish stations come in off the aerial.

The UK/other stations come in off the satellite dish (most people in Ireland cannot receive UK stations off an aerial - only those along the border/parts of the southeast coast)).

If you want both you connect both a satellite dish and an aerial

You can them combine them in one channel list to your liking. Hence the term Combo box.

hi folks any idea if the recent firmware updates have made it possible to use both usb inputs at once? i'd like to be able to use the wifi dongle and a hard drive at the same time...
    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

I don't think so. There was nothing in the release notes about changes to the USB usage in the last two firmware updates; 1.19B1 & 1.20B6. I think the question about usage of the dongle along with a harddisk at the same time came up before but I cannot remember the answer on that. Maybe do a search around the forums. Good luck

Thanks, couldn't find anything on it, but I do remember reading somewhere that it wasn't possible. I was hoping there had been an update. Not to worry. Not a huge thing, might try it with a usb hub from the same usb port.
