    Tried that and no luck.
All mention of decoder says MPEG 4 but these may be stock models and not those with Freeview like mine (searched MPEG 4 and model number online).
Contacted Sharp and informed no MPEG 4 and that the dealer may have bought UK stock for sale here, now wondering if there is any point going back to the dealer regarding this.

That is a crummy non directional aerial and amplifier with a plastic box around it. A bent coathanger with an amplifier will do just as well.

It certainly won't make a Sharp TV with no MPEG 4 receive Saorview pictures!

I have ALBA 22" LCD22880HDF, unfortunately i was buy a year ago, now i try Saorview and i have only radio. TV accept only MPEG2 Freeview TV.

Anyone know that it's possible to upgrade ALBA TV firmware ?

Or Saorview have any common interface (CAM CI port of the side TV) card that you can plugin inside TV, external decoder take place, i have to many boxes under TV.

Up to two years is a legal obligation if not fit for purpose or mis-sold.

It's not possible to update firmware for MPEG2 to MPEG4, that is hardware except on decent computers.

It's not possible to use a MPEG4 "CAM" type adaptor in a CI slot for Saorview. Those are only for a specific pay TV service, that in many places never even was approved.

See http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/the-black-list/ for an explanation of sorts.

Those TVs should never have been sold here. Take it back. Only proof of purchase required. You don't need the packaging.

    Sale of Goods Act.

I think that card should work: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEOTION-POCKET-DTV-FTA-NP4-CAM-CI-MODULE-SAORVIEW-MPEG4-/110976720472?pt=UK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes&hash=item19d6ba5e58

It wont. It only works with major brand TV's and even then only some of them. And even then again it will not clear the RTE2HD service (or future HD services) because they cannot transocode HD on the fly.

They also heat up to possibly dangerous temperatures.

Take your TV back to Argos. They shouldnt be selling this stuff in Ireland. The basic spec for Saorview has been around since 2008. The basic requirements haven't changed. Infact the "official" launch was over a year ago so they shouldnt be selling these without serious warnings to say the integrated tuners dont work whatsoever as they are designed for another country.

Bring it back to Argos and tell them that it was your expectation that it would receive Irish digital TV. One year of analogue TV on it does not make it suitable for Ireland. Now no tuners work. Tell them they need to careful what UK products they sell in Ireland because of compatibility differences. It is there problem to solve. Then they wont have disgruntled customers.

I have tested those and spoken with the company making them at IBS in Amsterdam. They do not work for Irish Digital.

That is why I said EARLIER it doesn't work, and gave a link
    http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/the-black-list/

Those cards are mostly for services that never happened. If the TV software is done properly it will not even tune the TV for the card. No card can EVER do HD, because the CI in the TVs was never designed to handle bit rate needed for MPEG2 HD, and the TV usually can't decode MPEG2 HD unless it's for the Australian market.

Ebay sellers offering these are lying. These would have worked for Sky's UK Pay DTT using MPEG4 SD (no HD), but Ofcom banned that and correctly said that in UK only DVB-T2 should have MPEG4 SD (which it has in N.I.)

They are trying it on. It was sold as a TV for use in Ireland without any disclaimers on the box, in the catalogue, or verbally. It is not suitable for the purpose for which it was sold. They have to take it back. Other people on these forums have taken sets back successfully for this very reason.

Leave it on the counter in Argos and refuse to take it back. Say to them you will bring them to small claims court and leave TV behind. It does not work by itself as a TV, and that was the reason you bought it. They never told you it would not work after a short period. You could ask them to get you an equivalent Saorview TV instead or a full refund.

I have had similar problems in Powercity, often with the exact same sales staff, who each time lie and say it's not your problem. Each time they conceed eventually, until I go back again...
