im havinga problem with my 150 box.after a few hours it looses all signal sat and terestrial and i have to do a factory reset for the box to see there signal again.my terestrial signal comes to the attic through an amplier into a sky box in the attic out the rf2 to a distribution amplifer and out of the distribution amplifer down to my ariva for a terestrial signal.if i by pass the sky box in the attic it doesnt happen but i need the sky box in the attic used for rf around the other rooms. any ideas whats causing my problems.the sky box in the attic also switches itself off at the exact safe time.

Could you not just use a splitter in the attic instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

your sky box has got auto standby set to on and it goes off during the night as it detects its not been used, its in the menu under auto standby. when the box goes off the signal drops as well, why do you need sky box in attic?

what sat feed do you have to the 150? ie is it direct cable?

Cant he just use a splitter in the attic instead?

Can anyone recommend a USB drive to access the pause function?

    Three thing.

    1. For anyone interested there's a new firmware release; 1.20B6.
    2. Chuck, I believe Ferguson recommend a particular hard disk in the manual. Western Digital I think.
    3. A question if anyone knows; in the satellite channel scan there is a network option. What is this for?

This uses data from the satellite to download transponder info

A way of searching for new channels added by a TV provider. What it does is looks for new channels of a certain network through looking at the NIT rather than depending on a predefined list of transponders.

Thanks, Chuck Stone, mission accomplished re FAVOURITE lists...

So what or where do I get the external device or equipment in order to record?

STB & Tony, thanks for the info on the network search.

    STB,

So when one does a scan, should one also include/add 'network scan' please?

    Thanks Iba

Here's a list of hard drives reported to be working well with the Ariva 120. I'm guessing they'd work just as well with the Ariva 150.

WARNING: Ariva manufacturer recommends using powered 3.5’’ drives only (drives that need mains electricity). There is a risk that USB powered 2.5’’ drives may draw too much power and damage the unit.

    Aldi - 500gb hard drive (3.5’’).
Iomega - Select Desktop Hard Drive 500Gb (3.5’’)
    Seagate - 500 GB hard drive. (3.5’’)
    Seagate 1TB (3.5'')
    WD Essentials 1TB (3.5'')
    WD Elements 1Tb (3.5'')
    Freecom XS 1TB (3.5'')
    Seagate 1TB (3.5'')

    Seagate - Expansion 500GB inch portable (2.5’’).
Toshiba - 750GB External StorE Art HDD (2.5’’)
    Verbatim - 320GB hard drive. (2.5'')
    WD - Passport Essential SE 1TB. (2.5’’)
    WD - Passport Essential SE 500GB. (2.5’’)
WD - Passport Essential SE 320GB.(2.5’’)
    BUFFALO 500GB MINISTATION (2.5")

One real improvement I see with this new firmware is that the now and next is working really well. It was very flaky before but it's very snappy now.

Unfortunately I still see a problem with HDMI. When I hit the stop button at any time the screen drops back to the TV from the box. I asked here before but it appeared that no-one else has seen this so I think it is probably specific to my set up.

For RTE Text simply add the RTE1 encrypted channel off Sky to your min channel list and rename it aertel. You can then select that channel and press text, which gives you the old Aertel text(which is not encrypted).

I'm new here and would very much appreciate help with the above i.e. RTE Aertel on the Ariva 150. Could somebody direct me to instructions for getting Aertel please? Many thanks.

You have satellite channels scanned already ?

Perhaps you do not have the encrypted ones scanned. You can scan just the one containing the encrypted RTE's as follows.

    Press Menu
    Scroll down and select TP
    Press the green button
    Add TP will popup
    Enter as follows
    Frequency = 10744
    Symbol Rate = 22000
    Polarity=H

Click down to save. If it prompts you just click yes okay button.

    Now press the blue key.

It will add the channels to the main Astra2 list.

You can now move that channel to your own list of channels as described in the manual and indeed rename it "Aertel" from "RTE1$" so as not to cause confusion with your Saorview RTEs.

Pressing text whilst on this station will pull up Aertel.

I tried the above and got a message at the end saying no program found - do you think I'm doing something wrong? Many thanks for reply.

And you have a satellite dish connected to the box ?

    Do it again ! :)

It should find them if a satellite dish is correctly connected to it.

Are you getting all the BBC's ITVs Sky News channels etc ?

Before you press the blue button which searches for the stations on that frequency make sure it is highlighting the one labelled.

    10744 22000 H

Infact at the bottom the signal strength bar should be green as well (signifying a live transponder)!

Okay go to satellites in menu and add Eutelsat 28.5 (like you did when you setup 28.2) by clicking okay beside it - a love heart symbol will be placed beside it. Exit back to install menu.

In TP scan it should say Eutelsat 28.5 at the top. Follow my original instructions.

Sorry, still no luck. I went into Satellite List and entered Eutelsat and under LNB1 I entered 28.5. Got the heart, Followed original instructions. And again I got no program found!!!!

I do not understand why this would be the case.

What firmware is this box on ? You can get this by going to the tools menu and pressing information. What does it say for maincode ?

Well I cant see why it doesnt cant scan the RTEs. Its not as if the transponder is weak.

I suggest you upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Extract the .abs file from that, stick it on a USB stick, put stick in box, go to menu, upgrade by USB and select Allcode+bootloader, click down to start and let it flash the firmware, box will then reboot. Then do a factory reset in menu and then rescan the satellite channels.

Your firmware may be corrupt. I have never seen such an issue before though.

Well, I must express my gratitude for all your help. At this time of night it would be "dangerous" to get into the above!!!! I will attempt tomorrow when I'm more awake! If you don't mind, I'll be back to you then. Cheers for now.

ps - I only got the boxes recently, so only learning still. I do have a second one in another room which I will check out tomorrow also.
