Just listening to IGN's Game Scoop podcast.

They just said that with regard to money, there won't be a joint fund between the three characters. Each will have their own separate account.

I suppose it will open up routes for double-crossing each other, but it might cause problems if you really want to buy that new car but you're controlling Trevor who's flat broke and you have to switch to Michael and drive all the way back to the dealership....

    Thoughts?

Buy... car? This is the GTA forum, isn't it? Steal that b*tch!

I see what you mean though, but I doubt it'll be that big a problem in the game. It makes more sense for them to have separate money, and if they're making an effort to have more things to spend your money on, I'd say there'll be more interesting things for the characters to buy than cars

I used to love racking up money in the old GTA games by taking stolen cars down to the crane at the docks and selling them , money gained was based on make and damage to car

The flying school in San Andreas was brilliant and really taught you the skills you'd need to pilot the planes to a level whereby you could complete the flying lessons later in the game. The alternative was piss-easy flying lessons.

Especially going down to the garages around the back when you had a wanted level. The cops could never really figure it out and come crashing down from above. 10-15 minutes in there and you'd have 9-10 burnt out cop cars and 4-5 crashed helicopters.

Hadnt really played in years but am getting addicted to SA again after this thread came to life!

One of the things I hope for in the game is that the Airport feels alive.

Expect delays, mile long queues, and a minigame where you put all your liquids in clear containers.

I dont remember following much build up to previous games.....will the official map be released before the game?

Also does the city look relatively small in that one or am I just not appreciating the scale?

I don't recall Rockstar officially releasing the map the last time. There may have been a leak. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Actually...now I have conflicting memories. I think the map may have....aw I dont know.

The city is about the size of Liberty City. So I'm guessing you are not appreciating the scale :P Also, this is a map drawn from piecing screenshots together. The scale will be well off but it just gives us an idea of our playground :)

EDIT: I think the lines drawn in the city part representing streets makes it seem small.
Nice view of the city...Remember they haven't shown us South Central/Ganton/Compton which is over to the left. The 'hood, yo.

Learning to handle the plane was certainly handy and that is what those stunts were teaching you.

I like this idea. Because if you spend more time with one character, which people will and build cash with them you will sort of neglect the other two. I love the idea that I'm managing 3 protags and knowing I'll have to build up their bank accounts individually. Hopefully it will make the game long.

What could end up happening is that in the initial few heists the money is split three ways, but what eventually starts to happen is that one of the three will demand more of the money because they felt they done the most work. They each want something different from their partnership and things start to fall apart.

Eventually the three will reach boiling point at a meeting and enter a mexican stand off

Sounds good. I like the idea of being given a chance to double cross one of the characters. If it's Trevor and I'm given the option to double cross him, I wont. I gonna be the bad guy. Whatever moral river Rockstar tries sending us down when it comes to decision-making, I'm gonna hurt the good guy. Hehehehe

Yeah Trevor seems like the last guy you want to double cross

Also, i hope they make better use of the moral choice system prevalent in games. They tried in RDR with the honour meter, but it was of little consequence to the games missions.

The city is about the size of Liberty City.

Hmmm, I think I read somewhere that the city section was smaller than Liberty city. I can't remember where I read that though.

I'm sure I read that the City itself would be twice the size of Liberty City

I don't think so. I'm sure that what I read was that the map is five times the size of RDR's, including water and three times the size just in land mass. And the actual city of Los Santos will be twice the size that Liberty City was. But there seems to be little bits of information all over the place so it's hard to find sources now.

The whole map will be much more than twice the size of LC though either way.

According to this page on IGN, the city of LS will equate to the size of two LCs.

I think I heard Houser say it was about the same size.

Either way I believe it's sufficient. It's all about, gameplay, content and environment. I mean having a city and countryside/mountains etc. A few more blocks of buildings and stuff wont do any extra for me anyway. Especially since thats all we had in IV. :)

New York and Los Angeles are very different cities. I'd expect Los Santos to be bigger and more spread out than Liberty City was.

Either way I can't freaking wait!!!

Not sure where that came from.

General information so far is that the map will be larger than RDR, SA and IV put together (height included!). The map is 5 times wider than Red Dead if you flatten it (keep in mind that RDR didn't have many skyscrapers or deep oceans that I know of). 5 times larger also includes interiors.

To explain that better, if the map is measured in inches, and RDR is 20x20 inches in size, but is entirely flat, then V's map could also be 20x20", but include 5 skyscrapers. Each building could be 4" on each side (square) and have a 4x4" roof. If you flatten these buildings, your map is 5 times the size, but still the same area (because the buildings won't be flat in the game).

The map is 3 times the size of Red Dead if you only include width.

The actual city of Los Santos itself, is smaller than Liberty City. However, it's equal or larger when you include surrounding suburbs (and then obviously when you include the entire map, water, countryside etc. it goes back to being 3 times the size, etc.).

That's the factual information as I understand it at the moment (all from Dan Houser interviews, I believe).

Rockstar have never released a map in advance, if I recall correctly. The first time you see the map is when you open the game box and take out the printed version.

I like what they are doing. in all honesty I wouldn't want a humungous map, it would take forever to get from A to B especially when doing missions.

Focusing on the interior and surrounding countryside is a big winner in my book.
