Half a lemon squeezed into a 1.5 litre bottle of tap water is the business.

I've only heard of it being sold in Dublin. There's a shop near Temple Bar that stocks it anyway, with loads of other American chocolate and candy products. There's another in Dundrum Town Centre as well, but it's nearly a year and a half since I was last in that place so it may have changed.

    Edit:
Actually, places like SuperDrug might do it as well.

Sure diet coke would be better for you than Ribena, fruit juices and the likes. Used to drink litres of it myself but nowadays prob only a litre or more a day, also don't drink it after 9 at night as I did find it hard to sleep after a few :P

If it's true that's great news. Usually can only get it from American sweet shops.

3 litres a day???? God i hope you brushed your teeth alot... that stuff will rot teeth in no time if you didnt brush regularily

Actually you should never brush your teeth after consuming acidic foods and drinks (Coke has carbonic and phosphoric acids) as the acids disolve/loosen the enamel of your teeth and then you just brush it away. It does make your teeth feel smooth, and if you have that feeling, its a bad thing.

You can get it in Galway. There's a sweet shop selling it down near Sally Longs.

I haven't drank fizzy drinks in years and I couldn't again if I wanted to. Poisonous gunk.

I drink a fair bit of water during the day but I still love a can of coke in the evening watching a movie.

cola/coke addict here except on top of dental fluorosis, mine have been trashed by the stuff so am not sure how have managed to escape damage as stopping drinking it doesnt reverse damage, plus dentists do not want people drinking the stuff whatsoever because of the damage it causes.

its the sugar in it that people get addicted to rather than the brand itself, though coca cola is a lot better today than it was when it was first released ;it actualy had cocaine instead of caffeine until cocaine was made illegal, that was back in the day dentists used cocaine for dental procedures to,god knows how it was thought to calm people down though.

irish users after this coke shoud try looking for close sellers of it on ebay or if fancy a day trip or break to england and woud like to get some vanilla charlie/chaz/blow get a cheap ferry ticket over and visit the likes of tesco, who am almost certain they still sell it.

dont know how common it is in ireland but there are a lot of UK sellers of amurrican goods and goods we used to have that can now only be imported from amurrica [eg,lucky charms and so on], now if only they natively started selling tab clear [remember that one? it was coke that looked like lemonade; made by coca cola] and mountin dew again.

also, there is a drink that is fairly similar in taste to vanilla coke that shoud be easier to find in shops; american cream soda.

I was the same, OP. I used to drink a bottle or two of coke a day. I spontaneously gave it up about three years ago when, one day, I just decided to get a bottle of water instead for a change and since then I've been drinking water daily. It was kinda strange at first as I used to hate water when I was younger but now I love it. My health has more than likely benefited from that change.

I love coke and still drink about 2 cans a day:( I feel thirsy all day if I don't have it.

Is there any alternatives? I mean water is fine but not for me really.

What about fanta, club orange? or are they all as bad as each other?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭zyanya

    Congrateys!

Just like Daniemcq above, I am the sort who anticipates the taste of the drink upon hearing someone opening a can or serve it over ice... I'm drinking much less now however and you're making me think of leaving it already...

Anything with sugar is bad for your teeth (And in excess, bad for the rest of your body).

Your best alternative (aside from water) are diet drinks.

Simply can't eat my pizza or pasta without an ice cold can of Coke. I'm down to one can a day. I can Skip some days. Since I gave up smoking, it keeps me sane during the working week.

I knew someone that worked for Coca-Cola and said they used to clean the machinery with coke itself in the factories,

    I'm calling bs on this.

I used to work for a company who serviced McDonalds cash registers and sometimes we'd have to replace them.
Considering the register would be almost welded to the counter because of spilled Coke, i sincerley doubt it would make a very good machinery cleanser.

I jacked the stuff in two years ago - it turned my tongue into a sliced ribbon, literally. I used to drink 4-5 cans of the diet stuff a day. Switched to coffee. Could be a case of frying pan into fire as I now drink 5-6 cups of SS coffee a day:D

The Coke syrup/concentrate that gets transported around in chemical tankers is powerful stuff. I remember reading that a number of states in the US use it to burn blood-stains off the tarmac after road accidents. I'd say you could use it on metal machinery the same way Cillet Bang is used on house-hold ovens. Let it melt into the stain and then rinse off with water.

    Coca Cola says:

"We are unaware of any state patrol officers using Coke for any purpose other than refreshment. Plain water or vinegar would be as effective and less costly for cleaning pavement."

I like the old fashioned dilute drinks, they're are a good compromise; no gas, dilute to taste, sugar or sugarfree options. They've more flavour than plain water and good value.

    Me too.

Drink much less fizzy drinks than I did now, although have gotten into the habit of getting a bottle of lucozade with my lunch, I really must stop that. Mostly now it's water or sugar free squash. Only wish I had given it up before I ruined my teeth :(

Lucozade actually has way more calories and sugar than coke, believe it or not.

Pepsi Max / Coke Zero / 7up free ftw.

Next to no negative effects on health (Less caffeine than a cup of coffee and aspartame is fine) and they taste great to boot.

    No they don't...
