One of the things which spurned me to give it up was my Dentist who when I visited her in January said your teeth are good now but then showed me some pictures of teeth destroyed by Coke and my vanity took over and it helped me get rid of the scourge of Coke from my life.

Vanity is the main reason I never smoked! :) Forget the health effects, forget the cost, I just didn't want smoker's skin! :D

I absolutely hate sparkling water, don't understand how anyone can enjoy it

It's so mank. If there's fizz, there needs to be flavour of some kind.

On a bit of a water diet myself. I like a can of coke or 7up with my lunch, but aim for about 2 ltrs of water a day too.

A few months ago i took up the healthy lifestyle and it's made a world of difference to my working life as well as my social life. I was amazed at how much changed, just by goin to the gym a few times a week and eating proper unprocessed foods. Unfortunately its not cheap, but definately worth it. Even recovering from hangovers is quicker.

I would be careful of that amount of sparkling water tho OP. Try move towards still as much as possible. You can get 6x1.5 ltrs of River rock still, for €3.50 in tesco. One bottle of that a day and you'll be brand new shampoo.

    well done

    Thats actually pretty inspiring OP.

It's after giving me the notion to try and kick my red bull habit. It's bad for me, plus I can't really afford to be drinking 2-3 cans a day like I do at the moment.

I knew someone that worked for Coca-Cola and said they used to clean the machinery with coke itself in the factories, imagine what it does with your insides after a few years

    Still delicious though.

People think he's joking but he's not. I knew people in college who were addicted to it, they 'had to' drink it everyday or they'd get headaches. I thought it was incredibly sad

Well done op. personally I have only managed to change over to the methadone of coca cola, coke zero.

I wouldn't exactly call Coke Zero methadone compared to CocaCola.

I'd be more inclined to compare it to Krokodil, that nasty stuff that does the rounds in ex Soviet bloc countries.

I kicked my coke habit about 10 years ago, I'd easily have two litres a day and craved it constantly. It made me put on weight, feel lethargic, bad skin etc.
I only drink it very occasionally (didn't use any alternative as a substitute) I mainly drink water now and the occasional cup of tea. Thankfully I don't like coffee so that was never an issue.
I've great skin rarely get spots and have far more energy.
I've don't have any filings even though I was addicted to the stuff for years.

Ribena is super sugary so not much better than coke to be honest.

Or you can get it out of a tap for free.

Vanity can really help out when it comes to motivation.

I gave up drinking Cola back in 1996. The caffiene was making me very jittery.

Agreed, but i buy 6 2ltr bottles from Aldi every week and a couple of bottles of diluted orange, mixed together and a few ice cubes added is really nice and not as sweet as a can of fanta so it really quenches the thirst.

When I worked at sea, one of the most hazardous cargo we carried, was the coke syrup.

It contains more electrolites than normal water or so I am told, wakes you up quicker in the mornings and gives more energy ..

You're told wrong, it's water impregnated with CO2.

Soda water has bicarbonates in it but that's completely different.

I was addicted to Diet Coke for about 3 years, it got so bad that I now cannot even touch a fizzy drink or I will have a bladder/kidney infection straight away :( it was all self inflicted so I have nobody to blame but myself! 1 year later I am now only drinking water everyday - all day. :) feel loads better and I will never touch that sh*te ever again.. the stuff is actually lethal!!

Coke should only be drunk from glass bottles or cans, anything else just does not taste right for some reason.
Only homeless people drink out of plastic bottles.

Half a rubex orange tablet in a pint of water is fair tasty as well

I like the old fashioned dilute drinks, they're are a good compromise; no gas, dilute to taste, sugar or sugarfree options. They've more flavour than plain water and good value. All the stores have them.

Well done to anyone whos kicked the Coke habit. I only drink cola the odd time when having a pizza

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,083 ✭✭✭meoklmrk91

Gave it up in August 2011 haven't looked back since, I still enjoy the odd can or even glass if there happened to be a bottle in the house, but I don't need it and when I was going through 2+ litres a day I did.

Drink much less fizzy drinks than I did now, although have gotten into the habit of getting a bottle of lucozade with my lunch, I really must stop that. Mostly now it's water or sugar free squash. Only wish I had given it up before I ruined my teeth :(

Pepsi Max / Coke Zero / 7up free ftw.

Next to no negative effects on health (Less caffeine than a cup of coffee and aspartame is fine) and they taste great to boot.
