Your source is almost certainly wrong. The NFS people are owned by EA who are hardly going to help a competitor. And even if they mean they hired a bunch of ex-Criterion staff it is still unlikely. R* have their own critically acclaimed driving series in Midnight Club so they hardly need to outsource for driving sim expertise.

Yes some of the action in the trailer looked a bit more cartoony then in IV but then that is no surprise considering the flak it received for been too serious. The truth is the trailer doesn't tell us anything about how the game will handle.

Sorry, you'd be absolutely right. For some reason Midnight Club and Need For Speed are completely interchangeable to me. I forgot the name midnight club even existed. I've no idea where I came up with need for speed, but the point still remains (I believe NFS and MC are much the same?).

no midnight club is actually good :pac: if the midnight club guys are working on it im good

I really do hope they take there time porting this to PC this time. Don't want it to turn out like IV again.

Doubt it will be out on PC. I'm afraid tablets killed PC gaming as we knew it.

Surely they would have said by now if there was going to be a PC version!

GTA V, Halo 4... double checked myself and I was wrong about quite a few. Anyone know anyone still playing FIFA on PC??

Yeah there has been talk about them using Midnight Club staff for the driving portion but then they also said that about IV. I also thought they could adapt their R* Presents Tabletennis game into a kickass GTA mini-game...

It would make sense though to use some of the same staff for driving game expertise and while I haven't played it, MC is very well regarded for an arcade racing game, much more so then the hit and miss NFS which panders to the masses more.

Had there been any indication / confirmation that the main character is Vercetti?

It's not Vercetti. No one from the GTA3 era exists in these games.

Tommy did 15 years in prison (so presuming he went in when he was 18) means he was released when he was 33. That was in 1986. GTAV is set in the modern age, so taking it as being set in 2012 means Tommy would be 59. The guy in the trailer is mid 40's at best.

The producers have said no-one from the GTA3 era (GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas) exist in this era (bar occasional easter egg references). Some characters from GTAIV will show up in GTAV, but none from the games before that. Same way the Los Santos from San Andreas (GTA3 era) is completely different to the Los Santos from GTAV.

The only similarities between Michael and Tommy are a probable Italian heritage, past criminal with a bit of money (even though Tommy was essentially a drug kingpin with a mansion and several businesses, whereas Michael just seems to have a bit of money), and dark hair.

Honestly, if they said it was a past character, I'd put more money on it being Claude from GTA3 than Tommy Vercetti

Just reading up on gtaforums. Found this interesting -

    asdoyip.png

Based on Pelican Bay Prison and after a quick google, there are some similarities in the design alright. The thing though is that it's way north of San Francisco let alone Los Angeles. Stress that I'm not saying San Fran is in the game, but it's interesting noting the location of the prison IRL. I'm still banking on Rockstar revealing something that will blow our minds though and hasn't been revealed in the trailer.

Oh and there looks to be an airfield of sorts in that pic of Trevor parachuting out of the jeep from plane too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

That jeep picture is still awesome looking :D

I wouldn't be thinking about the real location of things, R* are likely thinking it's close enough so they can put something similar in their own made up world.

Played GTA IV fr about 15 minutes last night and the handling of the cars is worse than I remember. I always described it as a tank, but the boat description is pretty spot on, especially for turning. Whoever pointed out the camera height, I'm going to kill you! I couldn't stop noticing it! I used to only change it a little when going over blind hills etc. but was constantly changing it last night.

The camera height has always been a pain. It's ridiculous that there's no way of locking it to a decent height.

It's more ridiculous that it wasn't noticed by the people making the game.

As for the driving, I thought it was still a huge improvement from the GTA3 era. I remember trying to play Vice City some time last year and I couldn't control the cars at all. Slightest touch made the car swerve erratically.

Is Trevor really Michael's best/former best friend? Think IGN might have been fooled by a bit of sarcasm there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭Equium

I reckon that the prison is, if it is indeed a prison, actually based on California State in Lancaster, just over the hills from LA. You can see an outline of the shape under the rotors of the helicopter. There is an airfield nearby too according to Google Maps.

Also, the objects in the red circle are radio telescopes, which can be seen at various points throughout Trailer 2.

This picture confuses me the most though:

    Skyline.jpg

The skyline above the right wing of the plane (on the left) doesn't look like Los Santos. It could be anything from an industrial complex to, dare I say it, San Diego?

Well, it seems that they worked together in the past, so it's safe to assume they're probably friends.

Could very well be that they have a Dimitri and Faustin relationship, where Trevor is the complete hot-headed psycho (Faustin) and Michael is the tactician (Dimitri).

Well I mean the way he says that Franklin is like the son he never had, he's probably only met Franklin quite recently and wants Trevor to trust him, could be vice versa I'd say.

Yeah, it was kind of a wasted location on GTAIV. Got missions from Gerald McReary there, and then the final mission of The Lost and Damned was set there. Can't think of any other times it was used

One thing I'd like them change is to make the cops more realistic.

Now, I've never been to the States, but I can't imagine that too many police officers around Central Park are carrying full on assault rifles in the middle of the day...

I would be surprised if the prison wasnt a part of several small missions or one or two big missions, such as breaking somebody out or being on hand outside the prison to transport an escaping prisoner to hiding

Would be kinda cool if you had to collect a group of escaping felons only for them to resemble the Fox River 8 (prison break)

Even outside of that though, when you could just go there in free roam it didn't feel as good as it should. I'd have to play it again but I remember it feeling kinda empty.

The most encouraging thing about the game is how RDR seemed so alive, considering this is GTA so the effort will be maximised I really think it will feel immersive. For example seeing people in buildings at their jobs, stuff like that looks quality.

Wouldnt mind you having to spend time in prison if you get busted. Obviously the lower the wanted level, the lower your time. Build up a positive or negative relationship with people inside and either have to worry about them coming after you when they get out, or knowing you can call on their assistance should you need it. Small side missions while inside so you dont HAVE to get arrested to finish the story, but do for 100%.

Same, couldn't get back into VC and SA as a result :/

It was a specific area for Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch in multiplayer. But even in that, it was all very meh.

Probably it is. I meant more in regards to the prison design.

Yeah that pic is being discussed heavily today on gtaforums. San Diego was the thing I was banking on, possibly the Mexican border too ever since Rockstar went on about Southern California last year. Probably south Los Santos, but speculating is half the fun :p
