Id say its in as the 1st trailer has a bouncer throwing a drunk guy out of the pub. ''Hey!!! Big yellow thing, stop!'' bang, nico gets nailed by a taxi, classic!

the worst part of the driving in gta 4 was that the cars were so boring and slow. Fun cars were rare but 5 looks to have taken care of this. Franklin looks to be a high roller with access to sime nice cars through repo. Michael looks fairly rich so bound to have some nice cars and trevor has access to planes and helicopters. Insta switching between characters means you should always have access to a certain vehicle...hopefully anyway.

I think I just thought of the greatest idea ever. I really hope they leave in drunk mode now.

A snippet of news on the multiplayer:
Rockstar has teased that Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer will do for open-world games what Grand Theft Auto III did for single-player games, a bold statement.

In a recent interview with IGN Rockstar North boss Leslie Benzies offered a few teasers regarding Rockstar’s ambitions for Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer. “For GTA V we want to push all of these to a new level while incorporating new gameplay elements that would not have been possible before,” he said.

“The ability to switch between different characters allows the player to do things that wouldn’t have been possible in any other GTA game, and on the multiplayer side we hope that GTA V will do for multiplayer open world games what GTA III did for open world single-player games.”

When pressed for more details about the game’s multiplayer, Benzies replied, “That’s what we’re working on, but we’re not ready to talk about it just yet. Refining open world multiplayer into something really special has been a huge focus of development and we are very excited to share more information with people soon.”

Not much news, but its something.

    Get drunk.
    Grab a bicycle.
    ?????
    Profit.

The multiplayer experience in IV was very under-rated, IMO. And then RDR built on it further. I'm sure that mode will be great in V.

Man I had a pretty big headache the first time I got drunk in GTAIV. Just wasn't expecting it

Damn, with some of the games coming out before Christmas and early next year, I wonder will I get a chance to replay through GTAIV and the DLC before GTAV comes out

Multiplayer enhanced the GTA experience for me. Especially when playing with a few folks you know. Some/most of my favorite GTAIV moments came from playing multiplayer.

Faggio racing... I need say no more. Well, a faggio gang cruising the streets of Liberty City gave me quite a laugh as well :D

If there is DLC, what's the consensus on one platform paying big bucks again for initial exclusivity like what happened with TBOGT/TLATD?

Wouldn't surprise me, though I'd have expected them to have announced it by now. Microsoft were shouting about it pretty much as soon as the deal for GTAIV DLC was made if I remember correctly. Though with both Microsoft and Sony reportedly working on their next-gen consoles, they might not think it's worth the money. I think Microsoft paid $50m for the exclusivity, and that was pre-recession.

Interestingly enough, I heard the IGN guys (think it was the UK team) discussing this very thing on a recent podcast.

They seemed to think that there was no chance of it happening simply because we're so near the end of the console life that it'd hardly be worth the millions it would cost to secure the exclusivity at this point.

I tend to agree with that assessment tbh. Getting exclusive DLC which will (probably) come out only a couple of months before your new console releases is hardly worth the 50-odd million it'd cost.

I don't really agree with that. Microsoft are always going to try and shove Sony aside at every opportunity. A deal like exclusive content to GTA V for a period could be, again, another reason for owners of the Playstation to change by the period of the next generation of console. Games like GTA, Call of Duty etc. are the major games on both platforms and Microsoft consistently buying the exclusive content for the major titles is nothing more than a marketing strategy.

Although I don't think that Sony will stand back for the GTA series but it's naive to think that Rockstar won't approach both and make some sort of a deal.

To be honest, I get the feeling that this game is being made with the PS3 in mind. It seems to be the console of choice. I think a few of the leaked artwork posters, etc. only featured the PS3 logo (ie; some made no mention of the 360 at all).

For IV, the 360 got a lot of mentions (particularly, and obviously, with the exclusive DLC).

Exclusivity deals exist so the Microsoft/Sony can sway people to buy their console. They are not designed to get people who already own a PS3 to go buy an xBox, besides, people arent going to go and buy a different console just to play the DLC. It worked for GTA IV because the PS3 and 360 were in their early market stages therefore alot of people still hadnt migrated to the newer consoles. Now everyone has found 'their' console so wont be switching until the newer generation consoles are released.

If the map is as big as it is I can imagine there being more than one disk for the 360. But there is no question that this wont be a PS3 exclusive.

    Haha, had a little laugh at this comment on GTA Forums;

I'll be honest... The first 21 seconds felt like another Adam Sandler movie.

That's funny because I certainly got a comedy-ish feel from it.
    Especially the end bit:

Why no DLC? The DLC for the last game is probably the best any game has done, if anything you should be asking for more DLC. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get to see Rockstar's take on modern day San Francisco tbh...

On the Xbox v PS3 thing, I think the Housers know that they'd probably not be where they are without Sony but if Microsoft come with megabucks again then who knows? Maybe the last deal was a multi game deal too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I suppose Microsoft could make a deal to make the fact that this will probably have more discs than the PS3 version a slightly easier sell?

tell fans that if they put up with the multiple discs they can get the DLC 3 months early...

I dunno, I think it's a non-issue really. Usually exclusivity deals are to try and shift consoles, you've gotta imagine the market is at near saturation point at this stage.

I'm definitely hoping for DLC. At least Rockstar don't do what a lot of companies do and have the DLC ready to go a month later with very few enhancements. Both DLCs for GTAIV were great, fresh, and added new features and felt like proper stories in their own right. And they put a lot of effort and work into the DLC for Red Dead Redemption.

DLC usually sucks if it's just "Pay 50% more for the rest of the game". But Rockstar's DLC usually feels like "Pay 50% more for 70% more game"

That being said, I doubt they'll go outside Los Santos in the DLC. I'd imagine it'd be more like the GTAIV DLC (although since we already have three protagonists, probably just an extra story for each). Building another new city, given the size Los Santos is, would probably be too much work and take too long

Apparently (not sure how true this is) the Need For Speed people have been working on the driving end of things (more bad news).

Your source is almost certainly wrong. The NFS people are owned by EA who are hardly going to help a competitor. And even if they mean they hired a bunch of ex-Criterion staff it is still unlikely. R* have their own critically acclaimed driving series in Midnight Club so they hardly need to outsource for driving sim expertise.

Yes some of the action in the trailer looked a bit more cartoony then in IV but then that is no surprise considering the flak it received for been too serious. The truth is the trailer doesn't tell us anything about how the game will handle.

Totally agree with all this. R* DLC is like a new game. GTA IV DLC had new cars, guns and characters. It really stepped up from the original. Id say the DLC for the new GTA will be from a different perspective. I personally would love to play as a cop/FIB agent in GTA V chasing down a trio of bank robbers. I think it would be fun. Seeing as the FIB are playing a bigger role in GTA V I can see it happening. They have their own building for peats sake.

I remember reading or hearing (think it was from IGN when they played the demo) you see one of the protagonists exiting a weed dispensary.

That article about them being able to churn out a new one every year though would suggest they could do that. I do myself doubt that they will but I still feel that this game will feel incomplete without the other cities in the state. Still be an amazing game no doubt but as San Andreas is pretty much my favourite game ever I'd find it tough to let go of the other cities I think :o
