My course (arts) doesn't take attendance either considering some of my classes have around 350 plus students in them. My tutorials take attendance though)

I'm doing general science at NUIG with around 350-400 students in the classes and we have to sign attendance sheets nearly every lecture. Plus we have these little remote control things that are used for attendance as well as for interacting with questions in lectures. Sort of like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" :D

That's actually kind of cool, the department of arts at my college should think of adopting a similar system. Some of my lecturers are refusing to put their slides up on Blackboard because they say nobody's going to their lectures, if attendence was taken maybe more people would show up and we'd have more educational resources.

    I don't understand your question

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The grant last year came on the 15th of each month? What is the story this year? Is it all different dates?

Ask them to review the decision. You want it reviewed before you appeal it.

how do i Ask them to review the decision?

Did you get your grant from the VEC last year? Will you still be getting from the VEC?

for those who sent in your documents by registered mail (as I did) I found out when I used the an post tracking system that they do not accept registered letters into their office as its a box number. as far as I have been able to find out, those letters are then sent somewhere in cork and then about 2 months later end up back in the susi office. - ended up sending in a second duplicate set, not that its made it any quicker

I have been able to find out after many many phone calls (and its really hard not to loose your temper)It seems to take about 2 weeks for the documents they are looking for (after you get the letter saying you have been approved for a grant subject to getting the documentation) to make it out of the post room and scanned in and put into your application, After that it appears the system then sends them to check the documents against your original application, then it goes to some kind of manager for approval, then it goes to the office that writes the cheque, then presumably they get sent out at some stage

the whole system is a shambles from start to finish, My documents went in July and its still at the scanned stage.

the first grant came on the 19th, the next is on the 21st of this month, this is when it is made available if you get approved after the 19th say, you get paid the friday after you put in your bank details -as far as I know, just working from experience here.

    Okay new infomation today:

    Dear Student,

As I said, it is one of two things.

Realistically there will be no delay in your grant payment if you have appealed your decision but as I said sometimes there is a chance of a small delay.

But the likelihood is that you just missed the deadline for October's payments and you will receive your money in the batch issued in November.

    Regards,

    James

Thanks for the quick response James; well this is more ignorance from SUSI.
I was told over the phone not so long ago, appealing should NOT effect my current grant award.
So which is answer should I believe?? It seems any answer I get contradicts the one before!

    Totally and utterly confused now.

    Student

And also, contacted my records office in Napier Edinburgh regarding proving my attendence, they kindly contacted SUSI on my behalf, and responded:

    Hi Student

Further to my previous emails I can confirm to you that we have sent your information back to SUSI, the file had apparently originally been sent to our Finance department hence the delay. Hopefully your grant should be released shortly

    Thanks

So it seems SUSI sent the attendence file to be updated to the wrong area, so to students who have been awarded but no payment, i recommend chasing this up with your univeristy records office.

I got an email to say that I've been provisionally awarded a grant and to send off my final course acceptance form. That was two weeks ago and I sent the form off straight away and I still haven't heard from them? I worked my ass off all summer and I'm starting to run out of savings so I'm kind of screwed if I don't get it soon. Anyone else in a similar situation?

    I'm still confused.

Are you getting a grant from SUSI? or from a different VEC?

The next letter you receive will just say how much your getting and to enter your bank details. You could ring them everyday to see if they are ready for your bank details. The date on the letter I got back was a good bit before the date it arrived (don't have it to hand right now). Over two weeks since I entered my bank details still noting despite been told on the phone 5-10 working days

Called them up today. After waiting 20 mins I got through to some one. They confirmed that they received all my documents and that I should get my confirmation letter in two weeks and this time I have all of that call recorded. I got the woman to repeat and confirm that all my documents have been received.

Hopefully that's the only time in my life ill have to resort to recording my calls

A guy in college who is a mature student and getting back to education got a letter from SUSI today.
It had a cheque for €6000 sitting there.
He didnt apply for a maintenance grant and told them he is getting back to education.
He is ringing them about it tonight, if he can get through.

Did he apply for a fee grant? Maybe the cheque should have gone to the college instead of to him.

He got a call of his mum saying a letter from Susi this morning.
She opened it and there was a cheque for just under 6000 from Susi.
Will ask him tomorrow if the cheque is addressed to him or the college.
We were all pretty confused talking about it today.

Think you'd be lucky to be honest. I sent my documents in August and only got my reward letter yesterday.
