I'd encourage all fans to try get to an away game. Atmosphere is always better, you get the sense you're in with the real fans.

It's just a contract on some new kids books, tj and the cross that hit row z, tj and the run in to the wall, TJ and the secret pre contract meeting.

Zaha is replacing Walcott you'd have to imagine.

Good to see we've learned our lesson and are bringing in a proven, experienced player instead of replacing a first teamer with a child.

We won't get him if anyway. He's out of our price range plus if the rumours are to be believed there's bigger clubs than us in for him too.

Can't really see any young player being stupid enough to want to go to Chelsea or City.

If United are in for him then yeah I'd agree we haven't a hope. But below that I reckon we've had as good if not a slightly better chance than Pool or Spurs.

I would hope so regards too City/Chelsea (and possibly Real too).

If Spurs & 'Pool are our only competitors then yeah we've a good chance, though if it comes down to being about money then I wouldn't be so sure.

Just watching an Arsenal game from 99/00 season on setanta now, it pretty sad when you compare this team with the the current one...

The movement off the ball is excellent, Bergkamp finding the runs with ease. Viera knocking Stam to the ground like a loaf of bread, what a pity Diaby could never fill his boots. Great variety in the gameplan, not afraid to knock it long to Henry, Freddie, Kanu, as well as the pass and move stuff. We lose this game I think, but at least we get stuck in and and are up for it.

Full game or highlights? I think Roy Keane stuck two past us. Martin Keown got a goal late on but it was disallowed. It was the first game after we signed Suker and Henry.

Actually that reminds me of an article in yesterday's Indo, which explained that despite success, Arsenal's teams of old were not flawless themselves...

I believe they underacheived. Threw away a title in 2003, lost their nerve with a game to go in 1999, missed out on a great opportunity to win the champions league in 2004, took way too long to get back to their best after United ended the 49 game run, effectively handing Chelsea the title.

Arsenal under Wenger have always been a confidence team (that's why he tries to praise them as much as possible, even after playing ****e). When they go on a run they can seem unstoppable, and when they were finally stopped, they tend to go on a bad run for a while, isolated bad results were never the way under Wenger, there was always runs of bad games. Even when we had Henry/Pires/Vieira/Bergkamp/Campbell.

The difference between now and then is we now don't have the quality of player required to sustain the long runs of confidence and to put an end to the bad runs.

Totally agree i knew we'd be screwed for a bit once we lost the 1st game, didn't think it'd take us that long to recover. November seems to be our month for bad runs, remember losing 3 in a row in a november with those players around.

Just highlights, think the show was 30 mins long...

Ya Roy got 2 alright, good finishes by him but he could have walked a few minutes earlier after tangling with Viera. 2nd goal was poor after Parlour got caught in possession coming out of defense. Keown bundled the ball in on the line when Van der Gouw had his hands on it...probably a fair call.

    .

Yeah that title was ours and we literally threw it away. The defining moment of that season IMO was our draw away to Bolton which finished 2 all. We were leading 2-0 at half time from what I remember. Ironically (with the whole Santos debacle) in that match Wiltord swapped his jersey at half time with a Bolton player and the pundits were rightly up in arms about it. We then of course go on to concede two goals, with Keown scoring an o.g. The momentum was then with Man Utd from then on in.

That is fair enough, but teams of old were up for it at least...

Not condoning violence or anything but there is nothing wrong with knocking someone early doors to let them know you are going to be in their face for this game, not a leg breaker now, just a physical foul(not in a danger area of course..), and just holding your ground when confronted by the opposition. Some of the current crop would be apologising and helping the opposition to their feet and stuff(thinking Santos and a few others..).

Nothing wrong with some meanness on the field.

If youre a good player you shouldnt need to "let them know you are there". Thats what Stoke do.

I cant read the article as it showing up error, but the Stoke way is not to kick and let them know you are there its to kick lumps out of you all game long ;), were as having a player like Vieira who was technically gifted but would also stick the boot in when needed to let teams know we could give as good as we got and it wasnt going to be all there way. To many times we have lacked a leader like him on the pitch.

Crazy to think that at one stage under Wenger a lot of people wrongly or rightly considered Arsenal a dirty team.

Maybe if we are Barcelona that is true, and we are beating teams easily playing the beautiful game, but we cant kick snow off a rope these days.

John Giles talks about some reckless stuff he did on the field of play in his playing days, but thats just the way it is, and he is a football man.

I don't think Viera/Grimandi/Lauren/Keown/Winterburn/Parlour would have thought twice about taking man and ball if the oppurtunity allowed. Its the pushover attitude we seem to have, laughing and hugging in the tunnel stuff, what is that about?

I amnt saying go out and kick people but we need to lose this softness, it leads to lack of confidence and teams feed off of it.

I agree completely with everything you said. That's one thing I have always admired/envied about United. If they lose a game usually the next team they face is on the recieving end of a severe hiding. Arsenal don't seem capable of doing that and have not been so long as I have supported them.

Ya think? I'm not arsed doing the stats thing right now but I think United are a far more "blippy" team than anyone else, they'll only ever have 2 bad patches a season like.

I see the mirror are saying wenger is thinking of switching to 3-5-2

I'd like to see this tried at least I think we might be actually good in this formation

I don't want him trying it for the NLD though surely with the internationals midweek we don't have enough time training for this

So in short I'm all for trying it just not this Saturday

3-5-2 would be suicide in the long term considering we only have 3 decent centre-backs. One injury or suspension and we're relying on Djourou.

Once Vermaelen and Wilshere find some form we'll look a lot more solid, Szczesny coming back is also a huge as I think he'd have comfortably saved a few of the goals we've conceded.

How long till Gibbs returns ? - I'll be delighted when he's back in the starting 11

3-5-2 sounds interesting. What way would you guys line up with this formation. Personally I would go with......

    Chesney
    Kos Mert Verm
    Sagna Gibbs
    Arteta
    Wilshere Cazorla

    Podolski Giroud

    Sagna/Gibbs as wing backs.

I thought he was close for the last game, but can't find any news on him now...

Diaby and Rosicky have no return date on Psysioroom and Arsenal.com is vague as anything...I get the feeling Diaby will be out for ages now.

As arseblog points out this morning, what if for instance Mert is injured and Verm is suspended, then we are left with a back 3 of Kos/Djourou/Squillachi...scary stuff.

Very unlikely with half the squad around the world this week anyways.

Surely Miquel is ahead of Squillachi now?
