this really is hard work - bought a Triax ST HD537 last year (took a chance I know) and got burnt :(

just want to get a Saorview app PVR and be done with it!!!

my current Triax box (537) can only show Saorview channls for around 30 mins before dropping off - I then have to switch it off (not standby) for say 15 mins to get another 30 mins of Saorview channels - AAAARRRRGGG

I wasnt a fan of that box myself. However......

Have you updated the firmware ? They fixed a LOT of these issues with a firmware update quite recently. There is a massive thread on said box in this forum, latest pages have a link to the firmware update (think that firmware is hosted on TVtrades website from memory).

THX, tried the new firmware but no joy - will just wait for the new walker PVR box

Bring the box back to the retailer for a refund, it's either faulty in manufacture or faulty by design (I know a lot of people have reported some issues with that box, but not that bad as to make viewing TV impossible, surely?)

Having bought the Walker Saorview box that's supposed to record to external USB, I have found that it won't. I have tried with a number of HDD's but no success. When I rang Walker I eventually was told that it only works with 'some' HDD's. But - they can't say which ones!. All attempts to contact them since have failed - despite what their website says about customer service.

Has anyone managed to get this working?.

Some posts say an external HDD powered externally might be better than one powered through the USB connection on the box.

I have one like that working with a triax.

I have seen some posts saying that the HDD shouldn't be too big. Not sure why. Mine is a seagate 1.5TB.

For a USB key what read/write rates do you have?

I saw a post recently saying this one worked:-
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=transcend+USB

    Read speed: 32 MB/s
    Write speed: 18 MB/s

You'll need 4GB per 1 hour of HD recording.

The box should have the ability to work with the series linking.

RTE just need the ability to broadcast the series link (ignoring the pathetic efforts on RTE1+1)!

    Twin terrestrial tuners.

Wonder who will be first to bring out a PVR with twin terrestrial and twin sat tuners?

    If ever.

Maplins had a few Humax T2 HDR with a 500Gb HDD at 249 Euro last week, that is cheaper than they are from UK. I paid €330 last year including shipping for mine. I am still waiting for the series link to come online from Saorview. Could some one confirm that the Humax will work on series link here. I have as yet failed to see it when setting recordings. Maybe Watty could advise me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,362 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

It's not a Saorview approved box so not guaranteed to work with series link.
Shame really as I'm sure Humax could easily get it through approval with perhaps some minor software changes, that and the approval itself costs money though and the market here is small.

We're not sure if Saorview's series link with work with non-approved products like the Humax but this quote from a Nordig PVR specification document seems to indicate it might. We won't be sure until the first Saorview approved PVR becomes available and series link switched on.

Speaking of Saorview approved PVRs, wasn't the Walker due to be in the shops from today Nov 12th?

Well I am happy to have had the use of it for the last year and I would prefer Humax to Walker and at least the Humax site gives the tech spec on the boxes. I have been using Foxsat boxes for a number of years now and I am happy with them

That's the date I got in the retailers I wonder what it will cost and how reliable it will be

Cost is expected to be in the region of €240-260.

I phoned today to check, I'm now told they have been delayed by a week. Expected instore on 22nd. I must admit that while my informant has proved accurate in the past I am treating this latest update with a pinch of salt. There are only so many delays you can accept before you begin to doubt.....

Just went through all the 8 stations and a series link came up as a option on RTE 1+1 . If they can do it on this channel why is it not on the other ones. Seems a bit stupid, do they think people who have bought boxes over the last two years are not deserving of the service and should go out and buy a Saorview approved box whenever it finally appears. Many people like myself needed to replace a faulty analogue box so had to buy a compatible digital box like the T2

They (Saorview) seem to be testing series link on RTE1+1 from what I can gather from previous posts on the board.

I've just been through the EPG for a further 24 hours on RTE 1+1 and can't find one single programme with series link.

Just checked 3 programmes at random on +1 and they all offered series link and on my forward list the next recording of my already reserved programme is on the record list for tomorrow

Hmm... I can get series link on Freeview channels no problem but not on Saorview then. Incompatibility issues it would seem so it's hit and miss whether or not non certified boxes will work with it and mine doesn't...
