I thought that this box was a terrestrial HDD/DVD not a satellite one. I looked up the model and it had a RF freeview/Saorview in socket not a screw in Freesat cable

I thought when buying the Panasonic that it would as simple as transferring the leads from my Xoro into the Panasonic and that's it - I'm wrong.

Yes you're wrong, the Xoro is a combi satellite/terrestrial receiver which has a digital terrestrial tuner and digital satellite tuner. The Panasonic doesn't have a satellite tuner for the UK channels so you will still require the Xoro receiver for the free UK satellite channels.

I've packed it up again. Looks like a brilliant machine pity it doesn't do what I want it to do. I don't know why they're selling them.

They're selling them for the terrestrial PVR market.

Well I did ask a lot of questions before I bought and was told that it would do what I wanted it to do. Obviously as its not Saorview approved the Freeview applies to England. Guess I'll have to stick with the Xoro for another while.

Perhaps you used the wrong terminology when you asked the questions.

Freeview is the UK terrestrial (aerial) TV service, the equivalent of our Saorview terrestrial (aerial) TV service. If you can receive the UK channels at your location with a roof aerial (from a transmitter in Wales or NI) this should receive them OK together with the Saorview channels.

Your existing Xoro combi receiver has a
    - terrestrial tuner for Saorview and Freeview (via aerial if available in your area)
    - satellite tuner for the FTA UK channels via a satellite dish

Why were you replacing the Xoro combi receiver, post you requirements here and someone will be able to advise you.

    Yeah realise that now.

I have a satellite dish for the FTA UK channels.

I guess I'm looking for something that isn't available yet.

    What are your requirements?
Do you have a Saorview TV?

Yes have a Saorview TV. I wanted a system that I can set a programme to come on every time its comes on (like I did with my Pioneer system). With the Xoro, I have to set the programme to come on every night.

Not exactly sure what you mean, are you looking for some means of setting a reminder via the programme guide to auto-select that programme? My Sony TVs have this function.

Are you looking for a means of recording both Saorview and UK programming? A Saorview PVR and Freesat+ PVR will allow you to do this with a full 7 programme guide

Where are you living and what channels do you have at the moment?

Just discovered that having the country set to Ireland in the hidden menu disables series link. Set it to England and the series link option appears. Same for both Saorview and Freeview channels.

    To get to hidden menu:

    Menu > Settings > System > System Information > Red > Green > Yellow > Blue > Green > Yellow > Blue

Don't know how this will affect the summer time issue in the EPG that's been mentioned before, as setting the country to Ireland was meant to have dealt with this.

Just wondering have people's Fox T2s updated successfully to Summertime? Mine has even though the country is set to England. It was previously mentioned here that changing the country to Ireland sorted this. But then series link is disabled.

Was this fix for boxes for that received Saorview only and couldn't pick up a Freeview signal to update their timers I wonder?

    Can I ask a question,

I have a old TV and I have the dish and i can see UK TV but not the Irish tv, Do I have to buy saorview and put a terrestrial on my roof or can I just buy a small tv aerial?
    thank

Hi Vero, Start a new thread in the terrestrial section and I can then help.
