I must admit that while my informant has proved accurate in the past I am treating this latest update with a pinch of salt. There are only so many delays you can accept before you begin to doubt.....

    Lucky I didn't waste the government's money on a free bus trip.....still waiting....another week I'm told.:(

They had at least 2 years to get organised for the Soarview Oct roll out and analogue closure and they messed it up. To make it worse they have series link sorted but wont release it till their approved box is on sale, so all us license payers have to wait till it suits them to let us use this service. Have they been disbanded now that the service is a month launched since analogue shutdown

In Spain they have a language option on their Version of Saorview so you can select Spanish German or English sound on lots of films and programmes.

Pity we didn't have that for the Irish channel TG4

I have two Humax HDR-FOX T2 and live in the border area. They view and record both Saorview and Freeview.

Series links data on some chanels (RTE+1 and RTE JNR 3e TG4 TV3 others to be rolled out I presume ) . The only draw back is when a Saorview program is saved to the hard drive the program synopsis disappears.

Does any one know if that happens on other HDRs / Saorview approved HDRs or is this a humax thing.

(BTW both Humaxes are connected via wifi and programs recorded on the living room box can be viewed in the kitchen).

Some Tv3 series links are live tonight supprisingly (not RTE)! On my panasonic HDR I only get the title all the time, never the full synopsis . Seems to be a saorview/freeview hd+ incompatibility issue.
Pity that but series link brilliant if it gets fully rolled out
    .

If you are using a Freeview + HD box of any make to record Saorview, "I" button does not work on recordings or live preview or planner. Other than that, they work just dandy. Can confirm series link is working on TV3 and also TG4.

Any problems with recording Saorview or a series linked Saorview recording while watching Freeview? Does the humax have to be on a channel to get any info from that service?

Also sharing recordings across boxes is that standard or is it one of those software add on things? Raydon or something?

With the Humax HDR-FOX T2 there are no problems recording Saorview programs apart from once the file is saved the synopsis disappears. You can record a Saorview channel and a Freeview channel at the same time. You cannot view both EPGS simultaneously. To see the Saorview EPG you need to be viewing a Saorview channel but that is not a problem.

Donegal TDI says in post #128 that you cant access the synopsis on live preview or planner. On the EPG if you tap on the 'i' button on the remote the whole synospis appears for the selected program . On a live show double tapping the 'i' button on the humax remote shows the full program synopsis.

On the saved file the full EPG information (and more) is in the data stream but it is not picked up by the humax. That was why I wanted to know if any Saorview approved HDR's were able to show program synopsis on saved files.

This is what it looks like on Saorview :
    * event id=39369 start_time:1359151200 duration=2400 running=0 free_ca=0
    - short event lang=eng 'Tallafornia 2' : ''
    - tag=0x54(84)
    - extended event lang=eng [0/0]
    - text='New Irish. More adventures with the crew in Santa Ponsa, Majorca. A new arrival shakes up the regular crew.'

but the humax cannot access it but it can show this type of freeview data :
    * event id=35028 start_time:1358928360 duration=1440 running=4 free_ca=0
    - tag=0x50(80)
    - short event lang=eng 'Newsday' : 'News and current affairs, business and sport from around the world.'
    - tag=0x54(84)
    - tag=0x5f(95)
    - tag=0x76(118)
    - tag=0x76(118)

Note the position of the quotation marks. Line 2 The quotation mark after the : on the Saorview data. On the saorview EIT (Event Information Table) packet there is nothing between the [single] quotation marks after the [:], On the Freeview EIT packet the program synopsis is on line 3 between the [single] quotation marks after the colon [:]. Can anyone make sense of this ?

On this link http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056294385&page=6 there is one comparison of the data from a freeview recording and a similar saorview recording. Up as far as 'content.d77.namelen:' the data is similar then the '05' character code appears in front of the data and the rest of the information is blank. '05' is presumably a hex code for a character. From then on the Saorview data is sparce.

As far as I know sharing of files across boxes (humax to humax) is because the humax has built in FTP and DLNA server. The mac address of the wifi adapter has to be allowed access to your router or you could use ethernet cables. I havent tried it without the Raydon stuff though. Raydon may allow streaming to iPad or android tablet if they have VLC running (but I dont have either).

    I said

I have just noted a problem regarding serieslink for those using the box in border areas. Say, for example, you have access to Saorview and Freeview and you only watch Freeview channels. If you have Saorview series links set up, the humax box will record the first program of the series but will not update the next link of the series until you view a Saorview channel (and thus access the next 7 days EPG to get the next program in the series). It treats the series link the same as a finished series until you start watching Saorview again. You can check this by pressing the [guide] [schedule] menu and you will see --/--/---- next to the series link. Switch on a saorview channel and the series link for the next program in that series is populated.

(This does not apply to people who use the box for viewing only Freeview or only Saorview.)

As I said earlier you cannot view the EPG for Saorview and Freeview simultaneously. So going away for >7 days and recording Saorview and Freeview series will mean only the links relating to the EPG that is active will be updated. You will record the all program in the series if the last program viewed is in the same EPG that can be displayed (i.e. Freeview or Saorview). However if the series is in the other EPG you will have to wait until the box is switched to view one of the channels from that service.

This issue is well documentated on the Hummy.tv forums. Also affects some people along Welsh/Engligh borders where they are close to 2 transmitters.
This is one of the main reasons I avoided the Humax . Panasonic DMR-HW series can handle the 2 regions properly.

I have done a review of the only Saorview approved box in a border area:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056788729&page=14
It seems to handle some of these problems. More testing needed.

I think the answer to this is to have a regular 1 minute recording twice weekly on both Freeview / Saorview channels this way the 7 day EPG and thus the program schedule will be updated twice weekly. Early days yet with series link on Saorview.

An easier way to do this if is to set the power on timer for say 5 a.m. on RTE 1 and power off timer at 5.05 a.m. then all schedules and EPG will be updated. Or if using Freeview to Power on to a Freeview channel.

I have had only a minor problem with Saorview and the Humax HDR T2 i.e. it does not save program synopsis. It is, in my opinion, an excellent box for Freeview and an excellent box for Freeview with Saorview overspill.

The Humax box is not Saorview approved but is a Freeview HD box. The problem with the synopsis seems to stem from the slight differences in the EPG transmitted. Freeview apparently use a short descriptor to contain the synopsis which the Freeview boxes pull from the broadcast signal. Saorview use a different variable or long descriptors to hold the Synopsis. The Humax HDR can see and interpret these long descriptors however when the file is saved to hard drive the Humax only saves the short descriptors. Thus when playing back the saved file there is no information about the program apart from its title and recording date and time.

One thing I would reccomend if using it for both Freeview / Saorview is to do a manual tune not automatic. Tune in the frequency for the main mux(s) first (i.e. Freeview or Saorview) and then the other provider.

'Series Link' does not currently work on a BT-subsidised Humax Youview box in County Fermanagh (and probably the rest of the UK.) Strong Saorview signal. No problems recording. Have re-tuned a few times this month to no effect.

Looks like it is down to software if other Humax boxes support it.

    Hi everyone,

I again have encountered a problem - hope you can help me out. I'm after buying a Pansonic HDD Recorder DMR-HW220 and am trying to install it. Can you help me with installation? At the moment, I have the Saorview Aerial plugged into the RF In slot and the wire they supplied coming from the RF OUT to the TV. Nothing happens!! Also, where or how do I connect the lead for Freeview?? I'm incredibly stupid when it comes to these things!

    Thanks in advance.

USB / LAN / HDMI AV Out / RF IN / RF OUT / Audio Out

Could it be that I need a HDMI connection from player to tv? What about the Freeview cable?

The HDMI is the on to connect to your tv for high quality pictures the RF out is to carry your terrestrial aeriel singnal to the TV tuner only and not the content of the DVD/HDD

The wire coming from the satellite connection for the Freeview channels e.g. BBC, UTV, C4 etc.

In my Xoro 9000 box I had Ant In (Aerial) Loop Out (Lead from Box to Ant in TV) LNB out ( the port where I plugged in the Freeview lead) Scart and the rest I didn't use. (I did use the USB for recording).

This system worked fine. I thought when buying the Panasonic that it would as simple as transferring the leads from my Xoro into the Panasonic and that's it - I'm wrong.
