    I report, then I retort.

I hate spammy fúckers, and I hate everyone and everything before I have my coffee in the morning, so my sexy sister dress job is one of my regulars. I wish death to spam and trolls equally.

    Dress too sexy sister?

It could well have been the signatures I was mixing up alright... maybe it could be an idea for some forums all the same... wouldn't work for them all (parenting and pregnancy springs to mind), but it could work for AH and cuckoos nest for example!
You might also be think of thanking post! I think you might have to have 25 posts before you can do that.

So the message is basically don't ever in any way acknowledge spam. :)

    Thanks babe, I got that..

Gonna miss it though, that sexy dress on the underground, how can he get his girlfriend to dress so hot... is this underwear too sexy for my girlfriend

Is this something that will be enforced? Or is it a "please don't do it" kind of thing?

With the volume of users we have, it isn't something that can really be controlled. Only tighter registration or a min post post requirement before being allowed start a thread is the best way, but don't know how feasible that it is for the Boards team.

People are still responding to spam, a "funny" retort is pointless as the spammers don't read your comments. All it does is feed into the bot's stats and it encourages the system to keep trying.

Please stop doing it, it's stupid.

Maybe 'hidden link' isn't quite right to use in this case, 'hidden image' is more appropriate. Some spammers place hidden images within their posts, that are in fact scripts held on their server. If you open a thread with this image, they will see your IP address and timestamp it. They can't hack into your computer with this info (I think!) but the more info spammers have, the worse it is for everyone.

The hidden image may be a moot point in Afterhours though as images are disabled.

One thing, doesn't it make sense to post in the thread you reported the OP? Since it's better to report it and then not have another 9 or 10 reports for the same post?

No. Doesn't matter what you post, has the same effect. And it makes no odds to us if twenty people report it :)

I was actually disappointed when a spam thread advertising Chinese lanterns was deleted before most people could see my "A great bunch of lights" pun.

    Ah well.

I think it's already in there or maybe in the rules and guidelines you agreed to when you sign up.
Point of making it a sticky is to make people more aware.

    @ OP mod guy:

The vast majority of spam threads are one post accounts who post a link with nothing else.

Surely there is a script somewhere you could use that prevents those with say 50 posts or less from posting links?

Not difficult problem is not difficult.

Maybe there is. I'd say there most certainly is. But it's insanely easy to get around it.

@CruelCoin dude, maybe, but we don't want to hinder legitimate users also, and as noted, spammers will just bypass this anyway somehow. Why not just - not respond? Not difficult to not respond, in fact, it's easier than responding..

Doubt most legitimate users would feel that put out if they could post a link til after their first 50–100 posts though. (Though yeah, people could just not write back)
