    Because they're all overpriced :D

    thats fair enough so :D

im just looking and it seems that all daysul automagics are not cheap unlike the cheap manual petrol cars.

i actually considered that merc a runner if i got your man down a few hundred on it.

To be honest, with your motoring luck, a Merc is the last thing you should buy :P

The automagic could turn into autotragic and cost you a fortune to repair.

    Or it may spontaniously combust

@TestTransmission: I'm nearly certain I spotted your S2k lastnight @ The o2 (car park). Wasn't actually parked far from it at all, only spotted it when I was leaving.

You would be 100% correct, no hiding from some people. :D

    Thank you..... i think :pac:

diesel, automatic and motorways all the way for myself. (while keeping civic)

are they always this pricey without getting something that looks like it'll fall apart ?

If you require a diesel how about just getting a 6 speed manual one (not a manual MB though)? If you are doing motorway driving you will rarely come out of 6th and also have more choice in the secondhand market.

preference friend.... it's not always going to be motorway.. there will be the odd bit of towns too.

see I do have funds to pick up a diesel auto box like what I posted there and extra to cover repairs if needs be so it's just a case of not getting ripped off and general opinions

looking at buying something.... i suppose this is going back on when i said i was getting a new car... but the selection i gave was crap according to people so ive being thinking about something like this...

whats to look out for on these ?

    http://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=856885&r=s.php%3Fm%3D53%26o%3D448%26e%3D6000%26f%3D2%26nx%3D17%26t%3D2%26yn%3D2002%26g%3D0%26z%3D-7

    what do we think ?

The pre facelift E-Class has a couple of major issues with it, which were addressed with the facelift 2007 model, which was available from mid '06 on.

Unfortunately that '02 model has everything that was wrong with the early W211 E-Class.

It has SBC brakes, which as dropped in favour for a conventional system in the facelift. Also, check if it is on the original radiator, which has a nasty trick of managing to mix its coolant with the gearbox fluid, toasting the gearbox. As fas as I know, the gearbox oil coolant pipes run through the radiator, but something fails, causing the fluids to mix.

Also, the engine can leak oil into the wiring loom, necessitating replacement of a loom, or worse still, the ECU.

I'm sure there are other issues, but they are the biggies that I remember.

If I were you, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Wait until a facelift model comes into your price range. :o

    accord?

For circa 5k, you could pick up a decent Alfa 156 diesel. Both the 1.9's and 2.4's are known to be excellent engines.

I was waiting for Mr Alfa to say that :D

reliability ? for other things also reliability ?

on a side note I am not ruling out any decent jeeps that fit the criteria

There are plenty of reliable diesels out there. The Alfa 156 just happens to be one of them...:D

There are obvious things to check such as suspension etc but a quick gander on a buying thread over on Alfa owner will see you right.

Although as MM said with your car luck maybe an Eventless daysul might be better...:pac:

Ew... I'm afraid of looking at the accord incase I'll be seen as a fan boy.

now I didn't go against anybody doing it but I just looked at the merc I posted earlier... only looking.

got him down to €4750 on it and he'd fix the wheel alignment, drop link on the front.

power steering didn't feel fully right

asked about when he let me take it out nobody came with me so I blasted the thing down the airport road... some smoke out the back, not a large amount but they said they all do it.

radio didn't work, said he'd fix it and give 3 month engine and gearbox warranty..... a nice starting point but a non runner I think.... no sign of oil leaking anywhere on it though. and it is a comfy car. but again only a good solid starting point

(maybe we should cram all my car buying crap into one thread ?)

I'd be inclined to run away from that Merc....

Why should you be afraid of looking at a car because of that? I'm not afraid of shouting out that I'm a Fiat fanboy and that would be subject to an infinite amount of ridicule compared to Honda (except in Amurica :pac:)

If you find a daycent Accord, go for it. F*ck what everyone else thinks ;)
