The biggest surprise I got from all this was finding out there is a bar in the Four Courts.
I was amazed to hear this. Quinn Snr gets handed down a sentence , then goes off for a pint in the Four Courts bar to ponder on whether he wants to go to the 'Joy today or have his sentence deferred. You could'nt make this stuff up !!!

Yeah don't know why he didn't just defer his sentence then fcuk off up to NI and avoid jail altogether. But then again, he's not actually going to jail is he, he will be staying in a 1 bed apartment on the grounds of the joy for a week or two max. He won't have to go near any of the scum in there. Not a bad deal for being able to keep millions of ill gotten gains.

Do all those people who go out and march in support of Sean Quinn not realise that he gambled his company, and his workers jobs, in a mad bet on Anglo shares, that he is responsible for where he is today ?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,084 ✭✭✭statesaver

Happy the **** is in jail but i'd do 9 weeks there so i could get my hands back on 500m plus.

He (Quinns) know exactly what they are doing and they'll still make a fool of us, the irish people. Just watch. Even now i can see them laughing at us

Where did he get the money to have the mad bet on anglo shares?

Not much sympathy for him. I'm sure he has a few million stashed away somewhere. But can't believe that Sean Fitzpatrick and the other scumbags are are still golfing around Spain.

If, as I hope, Sean Quinn has squirrelled away enough money to mount a proper fight in his case against Anglo, I, for one, am delighted.
Without his clout the shenanigans at Anglo would be buried by the powers that be and "No one was relly to blame", would be the mantra.
If Sean Quinn manages to get this piece of dirty linen washed in public he will have performed a service to the people of Ireland second only to the 8,000 jobs he created.
If I was offered the choice of going for a pint with him or the likes of Willie O'Dea or The Bull O'Donoghue I wouldn't have to think too long about it.

Isnt it interesting to see the scumbag element of society manifesting itself over the internet. It so easy to spread hatred. Why do you call sean quinn a fool. He built up a business from nothing to become the most sucessful man in ireland. The begruding bastards are out in force tonight. It must be a great relief to ye that one of our most sucessful businessmen and entrepreneurs is in jail tonight, And those nice people in Anglo are running his companies into the ground. Well done Ireland.

Couldn't agree more. The people of this country forget very quickly how a man gave 8000 people jobs and got fcuked over by anglo.

Wrong. He managed to do that all by himself.

You make a good point. The internet, these days, seems to be full of cowards hiding behind their alias. Would they have the balls to say it to his face?

Whilst I do believe Quinn SHOULD have been jailed - as contempt of court - allows for nothing else - and rightly so.

But the man did put a solid business proposal before Anglo, for a way of paying back over €2bn, that was backed by Deutsche Bank, yet the likes of Alan Dukes (who never ran a commercial business in his life) turned it down.

Sean Quinn did admit he make a massive mistake with CFD investing, and had been sold Anglo shares under false pretences. Now he's telling Anglo go fook themselves, and I can kinda see where he's coming from.

Or how quickly he lost those people their jobs when he decided to gamble their lives on trying to buy into Anglo to make himself more money with little thought to anyone other than himself.

Should have been at the Four Courts this afternoon then. You could have all cried into your pints together while he blamed everyone else but himself for what has happened - a common pattern among the people who helped destroy this country.

I am left wondering if all the bile posted against Sean Quinn is somehow due to the fact that he was a sucessful capitalist. He made himself rich by creating wealth and jobs, and therfore must be an exploiting pig!

If his name was Merrigan and he stiffed the HSE for 2.6 million he wouldn't draw half as much ire. He would just have been "moved sideways" within his union and the whole thing nicely hushed up and glossed over.

You're 100% right! And we should stop complaining about Anglo and Bertie and Cowan and the rest of them. They were just trying to help us little folk. Bless them. Bless them one and all. And merry Christmas everyone!

Hes been jailed for contempt, its a real sentence for "by the by" stuff

will it kick him in to gear and force him to hand everything over to ibrc?

need people going to jail for real offences, who where in charge of the banks and were reckless with customers deposits when they professionally knew better

Well said. There's only a 'thanks' button, there's no 'standing ovation' button which you deserve.

I love how the "8000" jobs thing keeps getting thrown around as if Sean Quinn was a charity worker with the Red Cross giving 8000 cups of water to dying kids in the third world. ALL capitalists have employees. They actually can't do all the work themselves so they, er, hire people. It goes way back. They give money and in turn people give labour. That fact does NOT automatically mean they are good or decent people. I am shocked and disillusioned (again) that some people on this thread see Quinn as a victim. I mean, it's too funny really how Quinn's media campaign has succeeded. He's a lying, corrupt, self-serving, two-faced, selfish, greedy thug. He's no more a victim of Anglo than Himmler was a victim of Hitler's.

It seems to upset some people on here to be reminded how Quinn employed '8000' or so people , maybe posters should say Quinn kept '8000' people of the dole and it may not upset posters so much. It gives people satisfaction to see a successful businessman make mistakes and get punished and lose everything , people who get satisfaction from seeing this happen would want to have a good look at themselves . It seems Quinn is responsible for bringing Anglo bank down on his own as he is the only customer of the bank i have heard of that owed them money . He offered to pay his debts but the banks were not interested. Quinn maybe no saint but the corruption that has gone on behind closed doors in Anglo with regulator/government could well make Quinn look like a saint.

No one is happy about what has happened with Quinn. I hope his arrest is the first of many. If people are going to see Cowen et al behind bars then there has to be a start..........
