I've always said he deserves his punishment. I'm not backing him.

But you do realise that €500m that he owes is a drop in the ocean compared to what we bailed the banking system out with?

The same banking system that raised interest rates last week for customers.

The same banking system that are refusing to lend money to businesses.

The same banking system that are refusing businesses and ordinary people overdrafts.

I agree that there's plenty out there who are the same or worse (Seanie Fitz being one), but we're talking about this one guy now because today was his day in court.

He's a scumbag who, even when caught out, refused point blank to cooperate. To me that was the worst of it-if you did wrong, be a man and be up front about it and take what's coming to you. I could respect that even a little.

But the arrogance, the crying on stage at the rally, the denial of any wrongdoing right down to the ground- I can't abide that.

Because the Quinn vs Anglo case will expose that the state sanctioned illegal activity.

OK so you're suggesting that the State jailed Quinn so as to avoid a potential legal case that would reveal illegal State activity?

If the timeline was different and the Anglo case was held first then the outcome would perhaps be very different and others would be going to jail instead.

So Quinn remaining in contempt of court will help the outcome? or bring others to justice?

How can the judge even think about jailing a fella with GAA links? Tis shocking, shocking.

That is not in fact the case, see my links in a previous post.

There isn't much in those links, the Indo is just a FF TD. The second is one case that for all we know NAMA maybe going after.

Well NAMA must have been lying then in their last report a few weeks ago.

    Plus
Separately last Saturday the Irish Independent reported: “The Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), questioned the value of NAMA trawling for hidden developer assets, even where debtors were not co-operating with the agency.…Some hidden wealth was discovered, but the assets ‘were insignificant in value and not all would result in a benefit to NAMA’, according to the C&AG report. Questions over the value of the pilot scheme have left a major question mark over NAMA’s intention of carrying out detailed searches into the wealth of all of its borrowers.”

That's some ridiculous spin right there, NAMA get criticised for going after hidden assets and the website spins it so readers can get suitably outraged, it is broadsheet.ie after all.

    1. Sean Quinn employed over 8,000 people in this country...

I'm always amused by this defence. He is in contempt of court. Other stuff will come out in due course, but for now he's guilty of contempt of court and for that he has to go to prison.
    2. IBRC/Anglo fradulently enticed Sean Quinn to prop up the share price of the bank using CFD's purchased with money they lent him. He was led like a lamb to slaughter...

But he's such a brilliant business man. This tripe just doesn't wash.
If that man is taken to jail there should be a civil revolt- no question. If that is supposed justice then sir the law is truly as ass.

I think anyone inciting civil unrest should be investigated. Boards.ie should protect itself in this matter.
By the way I am in no way connected to Sean Quinn, am from Wexford not Cavan/Fermanagh. I am an Irish man who is ashamed of the treatment and so called law being punitively administered on Sean Quinn and his family.

I'd need evidence of a Wexford IP address to believe that.

Did you see the bit about NAMA not pursuing the hidden assets of developers? Like how Arthur French owes €50 million to IBRC and has disposed of €10 million in assets.
Again, the contempt of court part is...

Hang on a second...9 weeks is all he got ? 10 years sounds like a more correct sentence. And he will still enjoy christmas dinner in prison, and their nice dinners inside that's for sure. People thinking of gruel and porridge is laughable as the dinners in prison are amazing. Imagine how many years us mere mortals would have got. This is a joke beyond belief.

Except this case isn't about the €2.8 Billion that is in dispute and involves the CFD's and the dodgy loans.

This is for a half a Billion and the Quinns don't dispute they owe it. I agree there's a lot of spin on both sides, don't fall for one sides version.

    Jeez, I'll put it simply.

Quinn is jailed for contempt of court for not helping recover assets he had hidden.

Others are not even investigated for hiding assets.

Adverts | Friends @SFWCORK- read my post you clown!!

Does it not state- "Of course Sean Quinn is in contempt of court......." where does that imply innocence? Hardly lightly that you could have much grasp of the facts when you appear not t be able to comprehend simple text?

Firstly dont call me a clown unless your prepared to hop on your bike and say it my face

Sean Quinn has been sent down today for CONTEMPT OF COURT.Thus he deserves to fulfill the sentence same as any body else would.

The other facts of the case have not sent him to Jail today.

As your the angel sent here to teach us all the error of our ways can you please tell me why quinn went ahead with Cfd knowig how dangerous and risky they are?..and lets not hide behind the "He didnt know the whole story" wall as its a tad stupid

The mentality in here is quite unbelievable.

So there you go, it’s completely grand, everyone is happy: Sean Quinn will go to jail (so justice is being done {in relation to his contempt of court}) but he’ll be let out for his granddaughter’s christening.....and whatever other family events are on, as well as the local GAA club Christmas party……..

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Of course i realise that. Waterford where im from has 20% unemployment, I'm lucky in that ive just gotten back into employment 1 year from being made redundant. 500 million is an enormous sum and would go some way towards helping the state limit budget cuts if it was recovered. I know all about the banking system and the insane amounts of money involved and i would like to see criminal investigations and prosecutions on a grand scale covering politicians, bankers and developers.

That does not change the fact that Quinn is an arrogant thug who is giving the state 2 fingers while ordinary people suffer, the argument that other people did bad things and Quinn is being scapegoated is tiresome, people on social welfare have been hounded and scapegoated far worse than Quinn for piddling amounts of fraud compared to Sean Quinn.

You think the trade movement is about working together? Thanks for the laugh. Middle age union hacks on 100k + and looking forward to massive pensions agreeing to wage cuts for new members on a quarter of that.

I don't know why people are angry about this sentence because i'm sure sean quinn was rolling around his sitting room floor laughing his head off at the weak sentence he got. 9 weeks is a joke and he knows it.
