ya we have an aerial on the roof.

So now theres just the two cables and the Scart going into the Ariva. But when I press guide button on remote all im getting is the Irish channels. Im assuming that Im not picking up the FTA channels correctly in some section of the Menu....

    Much appreciation!

    Ok good

Now u need to add Astra 28.2 to ur sat list

So go into the menu and click on Antenna Connection and click Fixed and exit

Then go to Satellite List and click on Astra 29.2 (make sure there is a heart beside it) - also by default there is a heart beside Hotbird - click on this to get rid of the heart and exit

then go to single Sat Search and do a serach under Astra 28.2

    Tell me what happens then.

Do you have a USB stick? It might be easier to just upgrade to the latest
    firmware/channel list. http://www.mediafire.com/?3vh17gs2jd1yj4u

    I
think you're not scanning the sat channels correctly.

    The 'guide' will
only give the program info for Irish channels, not sat, but they should be still
    listed.

Ya I have a USB stick, Im assuming that would get all the channels installed quicker?
When you say not scanning the sat channels correctly, what do you think exactly I'm not doing correctly / should be doing instead? Incorrect selection?

There was no heart by default by Hotbird, when I initially started up box there was no hearts on screen by any of them, I selected all at first but since your advice I have now just selected Astra 2A 29.2 (theres no 28.2) and made sure all others on the list have no heart beside them, I then done a Single Satellite Search under this Astra 2A, the majority came up as Fail and in the end all that got added to the Guide was BBC1 NI and BBC2 NI, neither of which actually display anything when I select to watch the channel, just a blank screen

You don't have a cable straight from your dish to your box screwed in to lnb in on back of box or your cable is cut or your dish is pointin arseways.

Could I suggest you take the old FTA box completely out of the setup, at least for now? I don't quite understand the cable setup you describe, and you just might be making life hard for yourself. Sat cable from wall going to Loop Out doesnt make any sense at all. Since you say the FTA was/is working, on Astra2 i presume, then this means your dish is set up ok and the cables are ok too. You might check that LNB power in ON in the Ariva too - it ought to be by default, but just in case it was messed with......

    Hi

OK - please ignore the information aout the USB stick 4 now. This is about having a channell list; the USB stick will not install/tune-in the stations 4 you.

Ok - you have a heart eside Astra 2A (it is actually 28.2, there is no satelittle whatsover at 29.2 - but anyway 2A is the important bit). Also I want you now to put a heart beside a sat called Euroird 1 located at 28.5

Ok, so now you have 2 hearts. Exit that menu and go into Multi Sat serach and search under these two sats. Do a Blind Scan and a Full Scan, ust to see if that makes any diference.

    Let me know what happens.

It seems to me though that the problem might e that your Dish is not aligned properly and/or you have a loose connection, so do doule check all your connections.

    Regards

    Iba

    Hi,

Yeah I didnt understand his cable set-up at all - but I think now he only has two cables going into the Ariva, one 4rom his sat and one 4rom his aerial. And I think he has the Ariva connected now straight to the TV. Ive no idea what a FTA box is, ut I think he has taken that out of the equation now.

I dont think he said FTA was/is working with regards the Ariva - I actually think his cable is not connected correctly or his sat is not aligned right.

. . . a lead coming from the aerial port on the wall marked 'SAT', this lead goes to Ariva box via 'Loop Out' port

 Why do you not have this connected to 'lnb in'?

ok so now Ive the SAT cable going to LNB IN on the Ariva, and the other aerial cable going to ANT IN, scart from Ariva to tv, old FTA box is now totally out of the loop too.

Done a scan again Iba, with your latest instructions, no luck im afraid.

Im inclined to think that it may well be a connection error somewhere along the line, I hooked up FTA box again as normal just to see, but no reception coming through on that now either.

Interestingly, our SAT cable has one of these attached to it, loose connection perhaps?.......
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR12thBA__Ax9AJ_R21XqdmInclarLWpmD8EZ8Kd8_MGrX08KU_

Should I buy a new one and a new cable?

Please ignore this FTA box, I dont actually know what it is, but I do know that you do not need it - throw it away :)

    Did u add Sat 28.5?

Did u scan now 4 both 28.2 and 28.5 and still Fail?

Did you try a Blind scan and a Full Scan?

The pic you posted looks like a Joiner (perhaps Peter Rhea can confirm) - can you Sat cable reach the ariva without this? If it can, get rid of this.

I do think that its an alingment issue with ur Dish or a loose connection. Please check all ur connections, including the connection at your LNB.

Any chance that you can post a pic of ur dish and the connection you have at the wall and the connections going into your box - anything that you can post to help us to help you.

    Regards

That yoke is a "signal booster" sometimes installed near the lnb for long cable runs. How long is the cable run from the satellite dish to the room?

Those satellite signal boosters/inline amplifiers do not work. They actually cause the signal to drop rather than improve it.

You need to remove that and add a back to back in place of it.

Sounds like your cable run is far too long and the signal is not getting to the receiver. Could also be a variety of reasons that you are only getting a few transponders off astra 2 including bad quality cable/kinked cable/cable connectors not connected properly/dish not aligned properly.

    Hi,

    Cool, glad you got sorted.

Cant help you with Aertel - I havnt looked at Aertel in over 5 years.

Now that you have all the stations tuned in, you can use the USB stick that you mentioned earlier to help you sort out ur stations easily

The 'old system' teletext was discontinued by RTE at switchover & the Ariva can't handle the MHEG5 text RTE use on Saorview.

I dunno how many RTE Ones I have now but on one of them - blank screen - I can get teletext there so that'll do!!!!

How does that USB channel list thing work?? Im assuming I download from mediafire.com to the USB stick, stick it into the Ariva, upload, and hopefully that'll tidy up the channel listing.....

    Hi,

I dunno how you have more than one RTE1 - in total there should be only about 7 or 8 stations coming through on your TV aerial, RTE1 & 2, TV3, Rte Children, RTE +1 etc etc and also Radio stations

I dont use the channell list myself because its only set-up 4 stations on Astra 28.2 and DVB-T/Terrestial Stations (I presume) because I have 4 sats in my set-up. But just follow the instructions as posted by Tony (I think thats who set-up the channel list on Media-Fire). Im sure you will be okay, but post-back if you have problems. Just follow Tony's instructions.

Just bought one of these ariva 150 HD boxes today. turned the unit on, but cannot get the remote control to pair with the box itself, has anybody else had this problem?

it says to hold f1/ aux for 3 seconds until an LED on the box illuminates to prompt you type in the code. this is not happening. anybody?

    .

The "Blank screen" version is the satellite version as used on sky. Its a blank screen because its encrypted. This version will continue to have Teletext for the foreseeable future.

Is it possible to get Eurosport Germany on its own, without getting the rest of the German channels?

I saw this on another thread..

    Eurosport Germany
    19.2°E Astra 1L 11258.50 V

But I want Eurosport only, and not all the other Astra 1 channels.
You will need some hardware to point at the other satellite - a diseqc switch , an LNB and a bracket to hold it.

and yes you can scan a single transponder, and then just choose to add one channel - at the very worst you'd only have to delete the other channels picked on that transponder

make sure you choose the right satellite on the list (to avoid confusion later) and don't do a full scan.

    other channels on that satellite

Of course. Sky News is free to Air.

Manually Scan 28.2 on this Transponder (in the menu as TP).

12207 V DVB-S SR 27500. It will add Sky News to your channel list if not already tuned in.

    Thanks a million guys.

It would save at lot of hassle if it continues on 13e. Otherwise I'll look at going down the route as Capt'n Midnight suggested.

You can add more satellites to your Sky dish by adding more lnbs (€5+ each), a diseqc switch (€10) and a bracket (€10) and patience (cant buy that). Came up before

Just wondering if we would be able to get the mheg 5 text on these boxes? Im sure i read somewhere that there was third party software for the BBC red button text? Perhaps in some time to come we may be lucky? Are these boxes able to do the mheg 5 with some directional help from software?

As far as I'm aware the chipset will support it but its a question as to who would write new firmware to allow this to happen..

For RTE Text simply add the RTE1 encrypted channel off Sky to your min channel list and rename it aertel. You can then select that channel and press text, which gives you the old Aertel text(which is not encrypted).

As previously warned, here I am with another question or two (maybe it's just me, but I can't make head nor tail of the manual that was supplied with the 150).

Is there an external item required in order to record a programme?

Also, what is the procedure in order to have quick access to preferred channels, instead of having to search up, down and around? Is the FAV button anything to do with setting this up?

Thanks in advance for any responses that may be forthcoming...

Yes. A powered external hard drive is best I believe but people use USB drives (not recommended by Ferguson)
Is the FAV button anything to do with setting this up?

    Yes.

Menu > TV Channel List > scroll <left or right> to 'all Channels' > Press 'Fav' and select group.

Then find a channel, press the okay button and a little heart will appear next to the channel. Select the channels you wish to put in this group. Then press the 'back' button and it will ask if you want to save select 'yes' and you will have bunched those channels selected in their own group that can be accessed by pressing the 'okay' button and scrolling < left or right >.

To rename a favourites list press:

Menu > scroll down and select 'Favourite' > then scroll to 'Fav Group #' and press okay. A box will appear for renaming the 'Fav group'.

1st question: you need an external hard drive.

2nd question: use Tonys channel list which should help you - look back in the thread 2 find it.
