Total novice, got box today, managed to get most channel installed and moved to a reasonable order

I added some satellites but the only channels I think Im missing are the CBS drama etc ones.

Anyone know what satellite I need to add to gain access to these?? Had them on my old sky box, I presume its just a matter of going through the other satellites but figured you guys might know which satellite specifically

    Cheers

You know where you picked your satellite originally go back and also pick Eurobird 1 28.5E.

Then you can do a TP scan (block frequency) rather than doing a whole scan, its in the menu.

You can just scan the individual TP which will contain a few stations.

    CBS Action TP > 11222 H
    CBS Reality TP> 11261 H
    CBS Drama TP> 11343 V

The manual is difficult to comprehend, with, for instance, all the menu illustrations virtually unreadable blank...or maybe it's just me!

If you download the manual from Ferguson it's much better on photo/screenshot quality. Unfortunately it also covers a range of combo receivers so can be a little confusing.

Joy at last! Tuned in all the Irish channels on the 150 unit last night. Eventually, sorted out what connected to what.
Still lots to learn re how to record, how to edit favourite lists, how to use hard drive attachments, etc., but I'll take a breather from all that razzmatazz for the time being.
So thanks to all who replied to my query, and offered help etc...

    Glad you got sorted

So did you get rid of the junction box?

Do you just have one remote now?

It would be nice if you could say what you have done/what your set-up is so that others who might encounter the same difficulties as you might be able to surmount them

The 'junction box' is more than likely a satellite/terrestrial diplexer & (obviously) shouldn't be removed.

One of the 2 remotes is probably just the tv remote.

    Hi Peter,

But he said he had 2 cables going into the JB (diplexer) and only one going into the STB. So can the STB receive both sets of signals (sat & terrestrial) like this?

It can't. That's why CUCINA was having problems. More than likely all they did was disconnect the sat. feed from the previously installed Grundig box & connected this to the Ariva. The terr. feed was still connected to the tv.

Any one come across a problem with the box going to a black screen every so often on all channels. Connected via HDMI to a Phillips tv?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

It's not switching back from the box to the TV is it? I get that when I hit the stop button at any time, even when not recording or playing.

That can happen if the hdmi lead is not 1.4 version check it and see what type it is as maplins were selling the old ones last year.

Another possibility if another box or recorder etc. is set to switch automatically to scart connection on the TV.

Well, it was just simple errors on my part. I think where I first went wrong was to connect the 150 the same way as the Grundig, when all I had to do was to remove the coax lead from the TV and put it into the coax (aerial) connection at the back of the 150.
Also,I fiddled about with the diplexer when I should have just left it.
I know, I should really be arrested by the techie police force for incompetance!
Anyway, just using the one remote for all stations now.

-UHF/FM cable also goin from wall to saorview box
-Scart lead going from tv to saorview box
-another cable that links perfectly from old FTA box to saorview!
-saorview socket even plugged into wall!!!!!
-TV channel list set at All Channels
    -Antenna Connection: Fixed
    -Satellite List: All selected!
-Antenna Set-up: I keep setting it to Astra 2A but its fond of defaulting to Sirius4!
    -TP List: Astra 2A

Sorry bout info overload but just in case theres any questions! Am I still missing anything or anyone know where I'm going wrong???? Thanks;)

Try powering the box off at the back switch. I had the same problem and a re-power fixed it. Worth a try.

Is it possible to get Eurosport Germany on its own, without getting the rest of the German channels?

I saw this on another thread..

    Eurosport Germany
    19.2°E Astra 1L 11258.50 V

But I want Eurosport only, and not all the other Astra 1 channels.

Yes, if your sat dish is pointed at Astra 19.2 and then you just scan the Transponder you mentioned.

But Im guessing ur dish has only 1LNB and its pointed at Astra 28.2

Can you please descrie ur sat set-up?

I just replaced my sky box with the Ariva 150. So it would be the same set-up as Sky originally.

Would I be able to pickup Eurosport without moving the dish? Thanks.

No, ur dish is pointed at 28.2 If u move ur dish to 19 u will lose all ur other channels eg BBC etc

but u can expand ur sat by adding more lnbs and u can then get hotbird 13 and astra 19 - but u will have to look in other sat set-up forums rather than this thread for how to do that or set up a new thread.

U need to look in threads like this or start one:

Ya we have a satellite dish outside.

When I say FTA aerial I mean a cable that comes in from the wall (market SAT on the socket) that was initially going to the FTA box we have but Ive plugged it out of FTA box and plugged into Ferguson Ariva 150 box now instead.

I've 5 leads coming out of the back of the Ariva box....

    1. main power lead
    2. scart lead to tv
    3. a lead coming from the aerial port on the wall marked 'SAT', this lead goes to Ariva box via 'Loop Out' port
    4. another lead coming from the aerial port next to the SAT one, this one is marked 'UHF/FM' on the port on wall, and this one is going into the 'Ant In' on the box
    5. Theres another lead plugged in from 'Aerial In' on FTA box to 'Loop Out' on Ariva. Just a basic black lead.

All im working off is two leads as mentioned coming in through wall, Ariva box (sorry, should said that instead of Saorview?), and tv.

Sorry cant upload any pics, appreciate your help on this though, thanks.

Sorry Im still finding this a little hard to picture.

You said you have a sat dish, do you also have an outside antenna (aerial on the roof)?

If u have both a sat dish and an outside aerial; just plug the cable from ur sat dish into the sat-in socket on the back of the ariva and the aerial cable into the aerial-in socket

So u should only have two cables going into ur Ariva, the sat feed and ur Terrestial feed and then ur Scart connection to ur TV.

Try this and tell me what happens

ya we have an aerial on the roof.

So now theres just the two cables and the Scart going into the Ariva. But when I press guide button on remote all im getting is the Irish channels. Im assuming that Im not picking up the FTA channels correctly in some section of the Menu....

    Much appreciation!

Do you have a USB stick? It might be easier to just upgrade to the latest firmware/channel list. http://www.mediafire.com/?3vh17gs2jd1yj4u

I think you're not scanning the sat channels correctly.

The 'guide' will only give the program info for Irish channels, not sat, but they should be still listed.
