Been to Aldi today and they have Arcobräu Winterbier
    Not bad at all...
That's a lovely beer, a definite Munchener Helles flavour, reminds me of Augustiner Edelstoff (t a fraction of the price Redmonds charge for it)

Just discovered a forgotten stash of Carraig Dubh in the back of the beer cupboard. That'll do for starters.

Ola Dubh is one of the best beers I've ever tasted, all kinds of flavours in there. It was the "12" - want to get my hands on the others now.

before that I'd a Williams Fraoch Heather Ale - lovely drinkable beer. Smooth and tasty.

I'd say the 12 is amazing, one of the best whiskey aged stout's I've had, but to be honest, I actually think the Barrel Aged Celebration by porterhouse was even better! And you can still get it for €3 a bottle!

Is the Ola not a porter. The 18 can be gotten in Redmonds in Ranelagh.

I've seen it called "old ale", "stout", "porter", "dark beer" and "black ale" depending on harvistouns mood, much like old engine oil really...

I'd call it a stout... but it could just as easily be called moon juice, dark beer names are fairly interchangeable.

In reality, it's just the old engine old recipe beefed up and then cask aged.

Flekovský Tmavý Ležák 13 well its about time I found a good beer. Its a dunkel and very easy to drink.

Slightly malty but the dark tones add a lovely coffee taste.
Only problem is they only have 1 beer so had to move on,

Had a Rekorderlig Winter Cider last night. Was very tasty. They reccomend it hot or cold, can't wait to warm it up some cold night!

Tasted the Samuel Adams Pumpkin beer yesterday and I describe it as "Caramel" with Spice overtones.

Now I'm having a Shepherd Neame IPA 6.1% ABV in my new Samuel Adams Glass. Bad picture I grant you.

What didn't you like? I really really enjoyed it. I couldn't fault it at all.

Had a Bombay Pale Ale by Nørrebro Bryghus earlier. Nice summery beer, but the slight ginger beer taste kinda puts me off a bit.

Having a Brooklyn Local 2 at the moment. Nice beer.

Anyone try Trouble Brewing golden ale? I don't think it's all that good- a bit too non descript. Not enough bite or aftertaste for me

Or? I'd imagine most of the micro brew fans here have tried it, it's a pretty standard Golden Ale imho, nothing to write home about but it's enjoyable.

I felt like it completely lacked any malt backbone, it was like drinking a super hoppy pale lager, very watery and all in all, not worth the money.

Kinda the same down comings as the likes of shipyard ipa.

You think Odell 90 Shilling tastes like London Pride?

    Really?

I think they are extremely different beers to be honest...

Or is a nice sessionable golden ale. Nothing spectacular but nice all the same.

Wow. I absolutely hated Shipyard, terrible watery beer, but thought the Burocracy was really up there. Lively carbonation that give way to a really decent hop kick of tropical fruits followed by sweet malt and long bitter finish all with a slight chalkiness from the strong carbonation.

We all have different taste buds I guess :)

True, but it's interesting that you describe it as being totally opposite as what I got. It's not as if you're a Bud swiller! But yeah, different tastes buds I suppose. ;)

Yeah, just didn't do it for me, at all.

IPA wise I love stuff like Odell IPA, Southern Tier 2XIPA, Dogfish Head 60 and 90 minute, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Celebration, Northern and Southern Hemispehere Harvest, Deschuest Inversion, Brewdog Punk/Hardcore, etc. So maybe English style IPA's just aren't me thing? Like, I don't like Proper Job either and some people seem to love it!

Ha, maybe that's it! I love it. Although, I did think that Burocracy was a bit like a toned down 5AM, so go figure!

btw, tonight I've been keeping myself company on the couch with 3 bottles of Leann Follain infront of the fire, for the night that's in it!

not warm, beer should never be drank warm, that's just nasty, drank them at about 7/8 degrees though.

I just left them on the back step for an hour before opening them.

    Perfect.
