    "Martyn Ashton takes the £10k carbon road bike used by Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins & Mark Cavendish for a ride with a difference.
    With a plan to push the limits of road biking as far as his lycra legs would dare, Martyn looked to get his ultimate ride out of the
    awesome Pinarello Dogma 2. This bike won the 2012 Tour de France - surely it deserves a Road Bike Party!"

    OK yea it's a repost, but a great oul vid and a good one to have on tap the next time someone loudly claims a high end carbon racing bike is mad delicate and with little impact will explode into pieces under you. :)

    Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Very true..but then again Im stumped as to how he didn't puncture the tyres..some of the stunts you can see the wheels hitting the ground with some thump! I hit a small pothole here in Ireland and boom, out comes the puncture repair kit :eek:

    My completely amateur opinion? It's all in the legs and riding style(missus!). I very very rarely get punctures. When I was running light tubulars back in the day I had one in thousands of miles/KMs over all sorts of roads and off roads once or twice too. Some I knew would damn near puncture every time they went on a training run. TO be fair tubs are safe from one kind of puncture, the pinch puncture. They tend to give a bit more and you can run lower as well as higher pressures more than a clincher. They were a pain in the arse otherwise mind you.

    When I was a kid and the mountain bike thing was just taking off I went along with a few mates with their new mountain bikes, me on a Columbus SLX racing yoke running tubs on mavic GEL 280's(oldies may recall they were daftly light and considered very soft). Up and down mountain trails we went, even did the stream thing like your man. One guy broke a couple of spokes, another punctured. Twice. Another guys derailleur packed up. I cycled home with the lone survivor on a muddy fox(remember them), not a bother. Damn things didn't even go out of true. Now I weigh feck all which helps, but I also get out of the saddle and let any pothole etc shock go through my legs.

    Watch the video and you'll see a great example of it. When he does big jumps his legs take the guts of the impact, not the bike/wheels. Makes a big difference. So if you're a heavier rider and who ploughs on regardless you're going to impact the bike and tyres way more than a lighter rider who lets the bike "float" over obstacles large and small.

    Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Very good post.

    On that note..does anyone want to lend their 10k carbon bike to me to try it out? :pac:

    What do you make of this incident and those drivers' awareness of that poor cyclist :mad:

    Delighted I was given a camera for my helmet recently. I don't go cycling without it now.

    That really deserves a it's own thread, really shocking. Apart for any physical injuries, it must have been a real knock to his confidence. It was daytime, he had a light and was wearing hi-viz, what else are you supposed to do?

    Thank god he had his helmet on. Do you know that a bicycle helmet can save your life in the event of an accident. :D

    Just watched this on itunes, its very good, not as epic as chasing legends but interesting all the same... the shot of the schlek brothers finding each other and breaking down amidst all the crowds and media furore after evans destroyed them on the time trail will break your heart.

    I remember watching that at the time thinking OHMIGOD! Look at him go!:eek: Then considering later that Pantani was rocking more goofballs than a Hunter S Thompson house party and Armstrong looked so relaxed? GTFO.

    Here's what happened pre EPO when a rider, one of our own pulled out all the stops to catch the yellow jersey;

    As Liggett said "he's almost in a state of collapse". Of course he was. That's what happens when you're pushing the human body to that degree. The other riders in that finish were clearly suffering. Of course they were. Armstrong looked like he was out for a training run.

    The great Eddy Merckx;

    Watch them struggling, their shoulders bobbing with the stress and pain. At times barely at walking pace The Italian fans as mad as fook as Italian fans and Italians tend to be. :) Fair play.

    And another bear on a bike, or is that un velo, Jacques Anquetil. Over 500 miles in 34 hours, without sleep;

    And no I dont care if he was taking speed, there isn't enough speed in the world for this stuff.
