    Thanks didnt see that.

So how will the players that lose their card on the main tour get a chance to get their card back/ Are they destined for a year in the Nationwide/Web.com tour?

Unless they get sponsors invites or get through on monday/tuesday qualifying

That cant be right surely, must be some other option for those that lose their card.

maybe there is - but the main point is there will be no more Q-School - so your options after that are whatever they normally would be I imagine

Just had a search, seems like the new season (2014) will start Oct 2013.
Looks like they're gonna have some sorta playoff's with the top 75 from the web.com tour and 126 to 200 place finshers on the main tour. Probably some points system similar to the fed-ex cup to be fair to the players that finish high up in the regular web.com season.

so how would European players have a chance to get into the us pga tour then - they would have to play time on the web.com tour? or else be top 50 in world rankings and get invites?

I think that's the idea, it boosts the web.com tour and makes it more of a closed shop for European tour players wanting to join.

might be a good thing for the euro tour maybe a few more better players will choose to play over here for better money rather than the lesser tours?

European tour is suffering big time in these recessionary times. Several sponsors and tournaments have been lost and there are gaps appearing in the schedule. Thats the main reason why Lowry is looking to get on the PGA tour.

Several? Bit of an excess with that remark, there's been just the one cancelled AFAIK and even in the US they've lost one also (Tiger's tournament just about got a temporary sponser).
What other lost Euro tour tournaments were there?

This is not even a reason Lowry is looking to get on the PGA Tour never mind the main reason.

This is the last year where you can qualify for the PGA Tour via Q School so everyone is giving it a lash this year as going through the secondary web.com tour isn't an appealing option for European Golfers who can't get into the World top 50.

To further evidence this, now that Lowry has a chance of making the top 50 (as mentioned above), he is not trying for the PGA Tour.

I can find 5 cancelled European events this season due to lack of sponsors. The biggest hit is in Spain with 4 cancelled there. The Czech Open being the 5th.

slight off topic but i presume players can win their tour card if they win a co sanction event (euro/pga)

Yes a major or WGC event.

Luckily the emerging golf nations are filling some of the void, great prize money on offer in China and Singapore for the next 3 events. Tour going global was a great decision in hindsight. Big money event added in Turkey next year as well.

There have been several lost. 5 alone this year!!

Go back last few years and you can add in the English open, British masters, etc.
there's probably more I can't think of right now

The Czech Open last year was absolutely diabolical, there was nobody there, the biggest group of spectators I saw numbered 3, it was farcical.

No idea why they held it there in the first place (or so many in Spain) when you consider the whole of Southern England has 1 event a year that is completely packed out.

Going back 20 years, tournaments were being cancelled but there were always new ones willing to come on board and the European Tour have continued to find that.

Perhaps we should take this discussion to a new thread.

Great round from Shane today, hoping he keeps it up this weekend for a good finish!

Really is on form at the moment, a lot more exposure in this tournament also compared to portugal with a much tougher field

I just heard him on the radio there and he seemed to take great joy in going into detail on the pissups he had after his win last week. Maybe if he was bit more disciplined and tried to get rid of the beer gut instead then he'd have even better weeks on the Tour. But that is Irish sports for you I suppose.

Maybe that's just cause it's the first pro win. Hopefully he'll settle down a bit now.

Seriously mate, if you're going to have a go about him celebrating a great win with a bit of a piss-up, try and do it on a day when Lowry hasn't just shot 64.

Because, you know, you look a bit foolish otherwise...

I think he's had a couple of decent weeks on tour, beer belly or not! Cut the lad a bit of slack. He's what, 24/25 wins his second tour event, first as a Pro and he's talking about the few sessions he has had after.......so what? He is up there in the thick of it again this week again, with a chance to move further up the world rankings and compete at the highest level possible....Man!! Tough audience!!
But that is Irish begrudgery for you I suppose
    Sorry about the spelling!

I checked his odds on Wednesday and at 66/1 thought he was well overpriced. Pretty sorry I didn't have a few quid on betfair now.

Excellent round today, joint best of the day. If he were to pull a victory out of a field like this it would be very impressive.

I heard him saying he might have celebrated a bit too much, but that's a 25 yr old Irish lad for ya, and one who's just won his first event as a Pro. Like others have mentioned poor day to be picking at him.

I'll all for him settling down a bit too though, maybe he'll grow out of it and realize the total dedication required to make it to the very top. By dedication I mean work extra hard and sacrifice some of life's excesses.

He could be Ireland's next Harrington or Clarke, his choice.

(for me Clarke is an underachiever)

It's hard to believe he's still only 25, that Irish Open win seems like forever ago (or maybe I'm just getting old). He's entitled to enjoy his victories but I get the sense from following him on twitter that he has put in a lot of work down in Carton House this year and its starting to bear fruit now. I mean lets be honest he's never exactly gonna have a model's body but the talent is there for all to see.

For me it would be a disappointment if he wasn't competing regularly for Opens given his talent in the wind, and the next Ryder Cup should be a massive target for him.

He had a 2 week break so why not go and enjoy his celebrations, they are all part of winning and after a few more victories on tour they will quieten down
