Was on teh phone with Renault earlier today to book the car in.

I'll say one thing. Their customer service people are great. When my phone cut out thanks to low credit, they rang me right back. Tried to transfer me to a garage that could handle the issue. And then had the garage itself call me to arrange things, within ten minutes of me hanging up rather than waiting all day.

Going to hopefully see what the problem is on Tuesday.
dgt and Marlow would have much more experience than me in diagnosing these sorts of things, but IMO it sounds fuel related rather than turbo/air...

The lack of black smoke (which would indicate too much fuel/not enough air), and improved fuel economy when up to speed.... I'd be willing to take a guess it's under fueling.

best of luck with it anyway, hope it gets sorted for ya

    See what it might be

The internet is telling me it could be a stuck ERG, or a faulty MAF/MAP, causing it to underestimate the amount of air going in under boost. Either are common faults.

Suppose that's one good thing about diesels. It's down on power a bit, but still running steady and stable.

Overally economy is actually worse because I'm pretty much caning it to get up to speed, but rolling along at 60kph it's sipping the stuff. It's an odd thing.

I seen this post, So I thought I would mess around with the website.

    Website link, http://carsireland.ie/add.php

So I picked a car at random, to my amazement, its not giving an expiry date for the N.C.T. Even though the seller claims its been tested today! So its not looking good.

This is the car I picked. http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4067668

Collected the Civic just there, drove it back from Galway.
First thing I noticed is that its not as quiet as the jag when you're accelerating, I never liked the boom from Honda 4 cylinders, but its not intrusive and I was spoilt in that regard with the S Type, next thing that struck me was the readings on the trip computer, the previous owner averaged 46mpg over 2600 miles which is impressive given that the owner says she used it mainly for short trips. I averaged 49mpg on my run through Galway city and down South.

It'll need a bit of polishing as the owner sponge washed it and there's swirl marks all over it. At least the roof is glass so that's a lot of surface area I won't have to go near.

All in all delighted with it. Pics to follow

Is it possible that the system takes a little while to be updated?

Could well have been tested today, even the database the gardaí have won't be up to date for a few days at the least.

Infairness most TDI's make what they're worth, it's just the likes of Audi A4's dolleyed up that make big money, and that's for the car, not the engine.

Ah well it's better than buying the old shape in fairness.

    Petrol or diesel?

What other alternatives would you get for 7,500 from a Dealer in a small, good looking hatch?

Tested out my cars brakes today when I got distracted by two people having a fight just before a red light. And I thought it was phones supposed to do the distracting?

No ABS means a slight near-****-your-pants moment.

I'll be more careful of the road in future. I wonder how many people have this moment in their lives but it goes horribly wrong? I know I've read enough stories here to know I was pretty lucky.

Went to view a car today, a good hour drive from where I live. Seller was selling it on behalf of their brother who was in Auz (Everyone seems to be selling on behalf of someone these days). Inspected it, wasn't too bad, there was obviously signs of a side swipe on the nearside as the two doors were resprayed (poxy job, paint was even a little damp) otherwise the car seemed mechanically sound, agreed a price. Seller makes out a receipt. After that I request the log book only to be told that it wasn't here but ''in the apartment down the country''. Long story short I walked away from it.
