I had some of that, I was pulling in 1Kg / week of cheese at one stage earlier in the year, lovely cheese it was too.

Serious question: did anyone else get it? Because if not it looks like I ate the country's supply:eek:

When you say pulling in 1kg a week..were you getting paid in cheese?

Oh no not a march that'll have them quacking in their designer boots.

FFS the countries hopeless, miserable, we're being fucking screwed every which way. At the very least you need major civil disobediance and I for one would say there's a definate case to be made for more forceful action......

I marched when the household charge was brought in. There was thousands of people there and it made a difference. Hundreds of thousands of people haven't paid the charges still. Get sufficient numbers and it can make a difference. The head count at that march was under reported IMO, they said 4k people...there was more than that there.

The austerity measures? Aren't those measures that are taken BECAUSE WE'RE F***ING broke? What's the alternative to not paying. I can protest paying my banks late fees - but what's the alternative?

Yep - these are the austerity measures caused by US spending grossly more than WE earned, voting only for politicians who promised to SPEND even MORE, marching in the streets demanding HIGHER spending, kicking the arse of any politician who said we should cut back, demanding that the banks lend us money we couldn't afford to pay back, to buy houses that were transparently over priced.

Now that the Germans and the EU have saved our asses, we have to suck up the fact that WE screwed ourselves up and WE have to take the consequences.

You are misdiagnosing the cause of the problems we are now enduring.
The Austerity measures we are enduring were not caused by us spending more than we earned. Ireland ran budget surplusses throughout the Celtic Tiger era. Although I agree we are spending more than we earn now because of the property collapse and the global recession. I don't recall ANY politician saying that said we should spend less during the bubble, or can you name any?
The idea that the Germans and the EU are saving our asses is a load of crap. What is happening is that they are demanding of Irish taxpayers that we prop up insolvent private institutions which their banks lent to and they lend us the money to do so in order to protect the German/EU banks from any losses. We have a liability of 64 billion Euro to pump into the black hole of Irish banking. This transfer of losses from private investors to taxpayers is the greatest scam in capitalist history. I don't ever recall the same investors throwing around their financial gains to the ordinary taxpayer. Privatisation of profits and socialisation of losses and paddy the gobsh!te is sucking it up.

Why does everyone assume we're broke because of the banks? The banks could never have gone bust and we'd still be in the midst of incredible austerity because we need to borrow 20b+ per annum to keep the country running.
