blasphemy, the Saturn was, and still is Sega's best console.

Hey, I ain't saying it was bad or anything. I'm just saying that it was where Sega started to fumble. Especially in comparison to Sony.

Have never actually played the games so looking forward to that. Sega are doing a damn good job exploiting enhancing their back catalogue at the moment, at prices that are right!

The first game is excellent. It's a weird two player rogue like and loads of fun.

    What madness today!
Sega, architect of their own downfall?
Sure but it's only part of the story.
With the DC Sega had a great machine, built in modem, first meaningful online console games, great controller, mouse, keyboard and light gun.
Nice design, great arcade conversions, massive selection of ip that no one but Nintendo could rival.
But it was the publicity of Sony as well, with bull about Emotion Engines, that did for the DC, meaning people interested in the next gen of gaming were seduced into waiting for the PS2.
What did they get for their patience?
One of the worst launch line ups known to mankind, and the doldrums continues for over a year.
The Saturn was only a failure in comparison to the epic sales of the PS in Western territories.
By any other yard stick the Saturn was a success and has a large software library to enjoy.
It's 2d fighters remained the definitive until hd versions emerged on xbla and psn.
The only true failure was the 32x, with a small and poor selection of games.

Ain't it cool news have a full set of the renders and the background to them, ILM made them in connection with the 2005 script for the aborted Jurassic Park 4.
The human hybrid Triceratops looks sweet!

That's nothing. Remember when GAP had that logo redesign that was aborted the following week?

Yeah, I really hate it when companies go all minimalist with their logos. Just so boring to look at.

Aye CIB. You're talking north of €200 I think.

This one sold for AU $275 excl postage from AUS (approx €220).

AU $700 one with 4 offers.

    £195 missing manual, 3 offers.

Jesus, even cart only at this rate would be insane money. I'm not sure if I could ever warrant splashing out over €100+ on a retro cart :(

Next best thing would be to play the rom via an Everdrive cart. :)

Yep, being a former flash cart owner though, I don't get the same enjoyment outta them as I do buying/playing real carts.

    Hipsterish? No.
    Elitist? No.
Weird? Well, yeah, it kinda is :o Still though, buying/collecting/playing real carts has given me great enjoyment over the last few months, I started with the 32X & am now on a Snes buzz.

I think I will have to bite the everdrive bullet at some stage though, some carts are just outta reach price wise

But is it worth the money beyond being simply rare?
I want Earth bound and imagine I will someday buy it, mostly because of its reputation of being an excellent title and it's place in Ninty gaming history.
Not sure Wily Wars has the same relevance to me.

Worth the money? I'd have to say no, surely at over €200 its not gonna give you bang for buck. It looks quite brilliant, but what your paying for here is rarity I feel. I think if it had of gotten a US release, prices today would not be what they are

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

You're just paying for the rarity on Wily Wars. I'm sure its a great game but not really worth anywhere close to the price for the game.
But it surely is worth the price as a nice rare item for the collection and the fact the game is good is a bonus.

I mean look at my Darius Alpha collection, the game is pure sh1te, it really is but its so god damn rare it goes for crazy money.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,972 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Age old question that; how much is it worth? It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Or what they're willing to trade for it I guess. :)

EnterNow: don't suppose you have a minty Raiden DX PCB (Fabtek release) knocking about in the attic? Straight swap for Wily. :pac:

(Note the single, not double, "l" in Wily folks, I'm not offering any Cho-Aniki type trades!)

Collecting games & consoles really is a bit different compared to lots of other 'collections'.

Apart from the rarity value of low production run items which seems to make up most of the valuation (same as with stamps/coins/artwork etc..), there is also the functional aspect - does it actually work and to a lesser extent 'is it any good' ?

For example if I have a super ultra rare console worth lots and lots, but not sure if it works - do you plug it in to confirm that:

    a) it works and is now worth even more
    b) has released all the magic smoke and is now a much less valuable brick

I have this fear every time I test out my Apple I.
I usually do it once or twice a year to make sure its still alive and its all done in a very controlled environment with surge protectors and all sorts :)
