Have never actually played the games so looking forward to that. Sega are doing a damn good job exploiting enhancing their back catalogue at the moment, at prices that are right!

Sega, architect of their own downfall?
Sure but it's only part of the story.
With the DC Sega had a great machine, built in modem, first meaningful online console games, great controller, mouse, keyboard and light gun.
Nice design, great arcade conversions, massive selection of ip that no one but Nintendo could rival.
But it was the publicity of Sony as well, with bull about Emotion Engines, that did for the DC, meaning people interested in the next gen of gaming were seduced into waiting for the PS2.
What did they get for their patience?
One of the worst launch line ups known to mankind, and the doldrums continues for over a year.
The Saturn was only a failure in comparison to the epic sales of the PS in Western territories.
By any other yard stick the Saturn was a success and has a large software library to enjoy.
It's 2d fighters remained the definitive until hd versions emerged on xbla and psn.
The only true failure was the 32x, with a small and poor selection of games.

Yep, being a former flash cart owner though, I don't get the same enjoyment outta them as I do buying/playing real carts.

I want Earth bound and imagine I will someday buy it, mostly because of its reputation of being an excellent title and it's place in Ninty gaming history.
Not sure Wily Wars has the same relevance to me.

Worth the money? I'd have to say no, surely at over €200 its not gonna give you bang for buck. It looks quite brilliant, but what your paying for here is rarity I feel. I think if it had of gotten a US release, prices today would not be what they are

You're just paying for the rarity on Wily Wars. I'm sure its a great game but not really worth anywhere close to the price for the game.
But it surely is worth the price as a nice rare item for the collection and the fact the game is good is a bonus.

I mean look at my Darius Alpha collection, the game is pure sh1te, it really is but its so god damn rare it goes for crazy money.

Collecting games & consoles really is a bit different compared to lots of other 'collections'.

Apart from the rarity value of low production run items which seems to make up most of the valuation (same as with stamps/coins/artwork etc..), there is also the functional aspect - does it actually work and to a lesser extent 'is it any good' ?

For example if I have a super ultra rare console worth lots and lots, but not sure if it works - do you plug it in to confirm that:

a) it works and is now worth even more
b) has released all the magic smoke and is now a much less valuable brick

I have this fear every time I test out my Apple I.
I usually do it once or twice a year to make sure its still alive and its all done in a very controlled environment with surge protectors and all sorts
