    That's excellent.

Just wondering if I install that now, will I have to reinstall again when I get Saorview up and running?

I only have freesat now as I'm waiting for an aerial for Saorview.

    Great piece of equipment.

No - retuning for Saorview is separate from the satellite tuning - so it will be a doddle. Only negative is that it will place the Saorview channels at the high end of the channel numbers, so you either need to move them to lower down, or remember that they are "down" from say Channel 0001, or put them in a DTV & Sat list or something.

If you move them up in one block they will got to the start of the list

    Hello all,

One problem I have noticed is that if I hit the STOP button when playing or recording then the HDMI drops out and the TV returns to its own channels. I can switch off HDMI control and it stops doing this but I do like the one button switch on.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour at all?
It could be the TV or the cable but just checking if anyone else has this issue?
    Using latest firmware 1.20B1

    Thanks a lot.

replaced a sky box with one of these for a pensioner neighbour so he could be digital ready as sky call it as his tv is not mpeg4 for the irish terresterial channels the other night and he rang me today in a panic.
his nephew came in and told him that he would get a bill in a few months for using it as it had a CAM slot..... had to reassure him otherwise as he was on the point of going down to tesco to get a new box!!!! its this sort of scaremongering that panics people...

Some people think getting UK channels for free means you are using a "dodgy box" or some "cardsharing system". There was quite widespread use of dodgy boxes at one stage. Many do not understand pay TV is not needed for 90% of people.

Perhaps they do but ignorance of a product is no excuse for scaremongering especially so when its an elderly family member. Perhaps we can get back to talking about the ariva 150

Sorry just wondering, does it happen to anybody?
Or more likely, does it not happen to anybody? In which case it may be my TV (Sony).
    Appreciate any response.

I downloaded this and updated the firmware and now my box isn't working. I switch it on and turns itself off again (tv channell picture will appear for a few seconds)? All strange symbols on box now.

How did you update the firmware?

I did it through a USB stick.

Google is telling me I need o do a RS232 software update with a null modem cable. I'll try this, and hope to god it works. Only have a box 24 hrs.

I was asking what you picked in upgrade by USB mode ?

Do you have a null modem cable ?

You cannot brick these boxes. The chip is protected. I have bricked a few of them temporarily to verify this!

Can't remember what I picked in upgrade.
Searching everywhere for null modem cable, but no look.

Don't you think it will work? http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?20580-Guide-to-RS232-flash-or-Recover-Ferguson-Ariva

    Any others ideas? Thanks

Yes I thought so. You need to follow the instructions!

Can you still get into the menus using the remote?

No can't get menus. It only comes on for around 3 seconds and switches itself off again.

If only I could find a null cable now.

I have one but thats no good to you. Here's one in Ireland less than a fiver including postage. You will need a PC with a serial port. Laptops typically dont have them. So dont buy one unless your PC has one.

Where did you buy it ?

Yeah I have every cable but that one.

Bought it in Co-op Superstores Mitchelstown.

Link is now above for you for that cable (only buy if you have a serial port on your PC).

    I will post a guide for recovery. Is it a 250 or a 150 you have ?

Excellent stuff, just ordered that (PC has slot). Seller is in Tipp so might have it on Thursday with a bit of luck.

    It's the 150 I have.

Really, really appreciate this. Thanks a million.

Just looking at that firmware plus channel link and it is named A250_Combo.... so I wonder if that is the problem? It's a valid binary all right but it's for a different device.

Probably is the problem. I thought it would work ok as it was posted in the 150 forum.

But maybe I did something myself in the process to screw-up the update.

Recovery instructions for boxes temporarily bricked.

    1. Download the latest firmware. Extract the .abs file from this zipped file to somewhere obvious (desktop for example).

    2. Download the Erom Upgrade tool. http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-150-Combo/EromUpgrade.zip/

    Extract the files.

    3. Connect your PC from its serial port to the boxes R232 port using the Null modem cable. Make sure box is off at switch on back.

    4. Double click the ArivaUpgrader.exe file that was extracted. It will pull up a dialog box. Select the Com port - default is 1. Baud Rate should be 115200. Parity=Even. Operate Mode= Upgrade. Include bootloader should be ticked.

Pick the software you extracted as per No.1 above in the browse bar.

Click next. Turn box on. Box will reboot when the file gets to 100%.

Yes. Will get Tony to take it down. It would most certainly brick your 150 box (they arent interchangeable firmwares). Dont worry recovery is easy. The chips are protected by an on board rom. You cant kill these boxes that easily.

That's brilliant, with very easy to understand instructions.

I have both of these files downloaded now to my desktop.

Hopefully it will work (I think it should). I hope to have the cable on Thurs, I might even try and get a loan of one in the meantime. I will let you know how I get on, or if I have any problems/questions.

Thanks a million again, I'll owe you one. :)

No problem I have bricked loads of boxes. You get over the shock when you do it a few times! It will be fine.

Yeah something weird going on with the file naming on mediafire so i've deleted the original file and re posted it .

Linky? The original link says file not found.
Any chance you could post the channels file by itself? Editing the channels is doing my head in and Herself is getting annoyed that I am hogging the TV and swearing....

    Hi Tony,

Just to be clear, the binary you posted looks like it was for a 250 is that correct? If so it would explain why it messed up the 150.
