You would nearly be better off brushing a thing like that with tardis or thinners before claying.

I forgot my bottle of tardis but I only have a quarter left I reckon I would need a whole bottle of it the car really is in bits with the tar, how do people not see it :confused::eek:

^^ Fair play on cleaning those seats, they look like new.

Spent a good few hours on mine tonight.

Tried out a little trick i've been meaning to give a go on my next job, the bonnet service mode. Allows you to stick the bonnet at 90 degrees giving much more room and more importantly light:

    Before:

    After:
    091020128732.jpg

Simply pull off a clip on each of the struts, lift the bonnet up and screw in two M8 bolts, very handy!

    Much more light:

Anyways, job was three fold, replace all the intake boots and clamps, clean the MAF and throttle body.

Only got a pic of one section of the intake, look at the size of that hole:
    091020128818.jpg

    ...but replaced the entire assembly.

Cleaned out the air box, sprayed the MAF clean, cleaned the throttle body which was actually very clean and reassembled the whole lot.

    All new:

Also clamped off a small leak in one of the power steering hoses:
    091020128807.jpg

Also wired up the angel eyes to the interior lights, they now come on at the same time:
    (bit over exposed unfortunately):

Also went for a quick spin off a public road, she's quicker than I ever thought!
    (shocking quality):

    7.5 seconds, BMW say 9.3. :D

    I don't like German/modern engine bays.
I WANT TO SEE THE TURBOS!
That and all the other bits that make broom broom.

I will, remove the plastic though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,919 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

I like the plastic, it's a lot easier to shine than metal :pac:

Besides, there actually isn[t much to see underneath it and the 2 turbos are hidden anyway.

Didn't do anything just yet, but ordered some LED number plate bulbs, they claim they wont throw an error on the dash, so here's hoping.

Also ordered a pollen filter, the old one is wrank.

You haven't got canbus so they shouldn't throw an error anyway?

Ah cool, just was reading the ad on ebay and every single page was talking about how they don't throw errors!

One of my number plate bulbs is missing, and tbh, they look ****e as is. So hopefully it'll look alright.

Next job on my to do list is going to be rear brake disks, the pads are barely worn in, where as the disks themselves are in need of a change.

What do yee reckon, am I better off just replacing the pads anyway when doing the disks? Or will I use the current pads? They've only been on the car 6 months or so, and there's plenty left on them.

If your pads are fine just leave them...

@Alan I've half a feeling it's best practice to replace pads when doing discs as the old pads will have bedded into the old discs, not sure if they'd have any ill effects on the new ones...

They throw errors on canbus wiring because they have such a low wattage that the car actually believes there is no bulb there!

    Stupid canbus :pac:

A good tip is to wire in the new LED bulbs over the old ones (in parallel) to prevent any dashboard errors - the LED will overpower the old bulb for shine, lets hope there is enough room too.

You can buy converters that plug into the old socket and give you a new socket for the bulb to plug into... They're cheap enoug.

I dont know thats sounds messy to me. I can disable the warning, if any, using BMW tools, in less than 2mn.

Do you know anything about putting different amp batterys into E60 5 series?

I was told if they aren't the same amp as the factory Bmw ones they will throw errors?

Fixed the linkage in gearbox and then got one put in from my old Polo since that was a newer part.

Dgt welded up my exhaust so no more rattling! :D

    A good day...

Ya, its a little better. I think its the shade that's causing that blue colour.
