but I don't think anyone should be harshly criticised for buying into whatever technology was most easily available at the time.

    Did that happen?

It may aswell be the dark side of the moon as far as "mortal" levels of BB is concerned. :P

But tbh most people down there dont care about BB all they seem to want to do is get pissed and annoy me at 3 in the morning when im trying to fish the Beach:mad:

No, not necessarily, although a handful of the posts were a little on the hyperbolic side :)

What are you talking about! *insert obscure Japanese title here* is clearly the best game ever made, and *insert mainstream title here* is clearly the worst. Also, *insert mediocre FPS here* is basically the gaming equivalent of the Holocaust.

    Exactly :D

Anyway, I'll say no more about NTSC, people are getting way too easily offended round here over stupid things :)

I wouldn't say offended is the word. Healthy disagreements are only to be encouraged.

Anyway, every single argument ever had on the Internet basically boils down to this :p

i think theres a huge difference between having pal coded cds (like the psx) which you cant do anything about, and just being too lazy/odd/stuck in your ways of denial to 60hz switch consoles which can have it. like the md and snes.

if it can be modded to show 60hz and you dont do it, then youre mental.

    Same with RGB.

But you yourself said people were 'being harshly criticized for buying into whatever technology was most easily available at the time'

I didn't see anyone at all being harshly criticized. All I seen was people making points about the advantages of NTSC, be it the full screen, speed & cost versus PAL. Then I seen others saying PAL didn't bother them, which is also fine. Non event in my eyes, but people seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick & perceiving this as elitism.

If it plays bigger, faster & is cheaper...why not. Thats all I'm saying. My whole gaming memory is filled with enjoying PAL games & systems, it would be extremely hypocritical of me to slate PAL in any way. And I'm not slating it, I'm only saying in comparison to NTSC, it isn't as good.

If its available to you, buy it. If not, don't. No need for knickers to be twisted like. Your not really missing anything, the games are still the same games. :)

Sera just came up with the perfect solution:

Buy it PAL, play a NTSC back up... which I did with FFX :)

Here's something weird. Seems the box artist for Namco during the early playstation days had a penchant for putting balls in peoples eyes:

Not sure on the memory. Amazon have them but you might find them cheaper elsewhere.
What sort of graphics card are you thinking about, roughly?

Sure you can find a corner somewhere, I wouldn't let it go to waste :)
Feck it up on eBay if you decide its to big.

    So many options really.
If you give me a price range that would narrow it down.

On the topic of nostalgia, I'd have to come clean and say that 90% of my retro gaming is due to nostalgia. If I hadn't spent my formative years playing games and obsessively reading about ones I could and couldn't buy in various magazines, I probably wouldn't give a toss about retro games. As a result I can live with PAL. Hell I could probably even live with rf...I just couldn't be arsed tuning tvs any more!

With things like the Famicom and Gameboy Light, I need only quote Kevin Spacey's character in American Beauty, having just bought the car of his dreams:

"1970 Pontiac Firebird. The car I've always wanted and now I have it. I rule!"

    Hey!
I have a Famicom and a Gameboy Light, have them Like a Boss!

I bought the GB light mainly to fuel my unhealthy Gameboy obsession and need to have one of each kind...already have backlit DMGs and a backlit GB Pocket for human-viewable gaming.

Same with the Famicoms at this stage, now have the standard Famicom (non-working to my knowledge), standard (boxed) disk-system, AV Famicom (still new in box, for when everything else bites the bullet) and twin Famicom for my everyday 8-bit Japanese Nintendo needs
