Here's something for videogame music fans. The guy that composed the soundtrack for System Shock 2 has released all the music and also sound loops he used to make the music. Until now the only soundtrack available for the game was the low quality .wav files used in the game. These sound so much better:

Edit: He only did the drum n' bass and techno music in the game but it's most of the good stuff.

While it may baffle us outside observers to see the success of the series, the reality is that for almost twenty years it has been a guaranteed seller every year (except that brief period when everyone was playing Pro Evo, but FIFA kicked them up the arse). Why would they even consider having a DLC update when they can sell a full priced disc and rake in even more than they did the previous year? Not only that, it receives both critical and player acclaim with every iteration. On metacritic every single review of the 'proper' versions of FIFA 13 is positive. No middling, no negative: genuinely universal acclaim.

Economically speaking, yearly FIFA updates are probably the safest bet in gaming.

In a world where Jedward are millionaires, I think its quite safe to say fan & critical acclaim/panning have absolutely zero baring on quality.

I think it's a push to suggest that universal critical acclaim has zero bearing on quality. Of course it's not an absolute measure of quality either, far from it. In the case of FIFA I find that the majority of people who slam it are the ones who haven't played it in a long time, if ever, and wouldn't regardless of how good it actually was. In which case I would listen to a critic who has played it over them.

You don't need to talk to convince about the popularity does not equal quality argument, but nor do you see Jedward albums receiving high praise from generally reliable specialist reviewers (although admittedly many publications have long since stopped covering the yearly updates of sports sims).

Again, I know lots of people who play fifa as part of a balanced gaming diet and are very fond of it. Im much less forgiving of the FIFA and FIFA only attitude, which I think is just a waste of a console.

For the record, as someone who is bored senseless of most team sports, the only football sim Ive ever enjoyed is Marcos Magic Football. I use the word sim lightly.

True enough, but as you said yourself, many publications don't invest much time in yearly updated/newly rostered sports sims.

I'm not actually knocking the game itself folks, it's probably a fine game if your into football. I'm not that big into it, & despite having played FIFA with friends etc, it's just not my cup of tea. That in itself is fine, my issue is the yearly updates seem to be but tweaks & new player names...costing the full price of a game. As said before, this could be done with DLC & cost half the price, but they're hardly gonna do that.

There is but one, Sensible Soccer

Just on the whole Fifa thing and high critical acclaim. They've had over 4 years to refine the current engine and make the 'perfect' Fifa, and the budget is immense. The game was great in 10 nevermind another 3 titles to polish it. The engine appeared in 08 I think :) thats a long time to get it right and nothing gives better feedback than an actual release. Imagine if Capcom was able to do the same with street fighter 4... there would be war.
I not saying they should have released Fifa 11->12->13 as DLC I am only saying that they are so similar they could have.

I doubt there will be another Fifa using the same engine, in most of the reviews there is a mention that its getting stale regardless of how polished it is and that pressure from Konami (Pro Evo is really good this year) and possible next gen will force them to build from the ground up again which can only be a good thing.

Crazy Taxi heading to iOS this month with the original soundtrack intact.
Not sure how good it will be with what I think will be tilt controls.

Hey Ciderman, I'm going to have to defy you there. I bet you think you're pretty fly for a white guy with high self esteem, but why don't you get a job or change the world while we come out and play and smash your Crazy Taxi high scores.

I haven't got Crazy Taxi high scores, I'm lousy at it so I rock low scores on that mother!
And I prefer Pretty Fly for a Rabbi tbh

    And The Offspring still stink!

So, did anyone see that new Superquinn ad which had the Rocky theme being played on a French accordion? I immediately thought of this guy.

But Ixnay on the Hombre is a classic... I mean... its the only Offspring album I actually like every song, its amazing.... you make me a sad panda :(

I remember playing Crazy Taxi in the smelly little arcade down by city square and going "O_o Ixnay as a soundtrack! deadly!!", it was one of the crappy stand up units but I remember playing it a lot over the summer, a friend got it on the Dreamcast too but rarely had sonic adventure out of the console
