Has anyone seen Learn with Pokemon Typing adventure on DS anywhere.
It was supposed to be released on 21st September but I have yet to see it in any shops:(

I asked about it in gamestop yesteray and the poor bloke behind the counter looked at me like I was some sort of wierdo. He then checked the system and reported that it wasn't on it at all.
I asked him if he had a copy of Fifa 13 to which he replied "Yes, plenty" oh how I laughed.
I then left the shop shaking my head in despair.

Amazon have it. I doubt gamestop will get it in, they have been terrible the last few months for getting niche games in. Seems the DS and Wii games are drying up, Inazuma Eleven Strikers was released on the 28th yet even amazon don't stock it, only shopto seem to have copies. Could be a future rarity.

I really did intend on getting DS and Wii games but I never did.

I'll put a few bob away and get on it after christmas when everyone starts trading in stuff for he WiiU

Speaking of the WiiU I heard preorders are already starting to go for silly money, is this true or just a few idiots getting ahead of themselves?

I was looking for that typing game as well, but on the day of release no bricks and mortar stores had it.
Looks like an online only purchase.
Really though, I'd be buying it for the cool keyboard!
I'm a sucker for unusual peripherals!

HMV in dundrum have it in stock, think its either €55 or €65. I'm gonna wait until I'm in England on Thursday to pick it up.

Now really is the time to start picking up cheap DS games.
I have been picking them up, one or two a week, for the last 8 months, built a nice little collection.

Problem is, I can see, within 12 months, that the shelves will be filled with Fifa and copies of Cooking Mama type games.
So grab the goodies while they are still available!

Absolutely, if there's anything hard to get on the ds and wii now is definitely the time to get it. Same goes for the psp although I think time is running out faster for that as opposed to the ds and wii.

There's quite a few wii and dsgames that are climbing in price due to rarity, I'd get on to collecting for them quick.

You should have bought. It's so good, by far the best shmup on the PS2 and probably Treasures best if not for Radiant Silvergun.

If your PS2 can't read CD games then it means your laser is about to go bust.

I'd say the PS2 still has some life left in it but the CD Drive does make an unsavoury whurring noise when booting up but then goes on to read the disc no problem. I've never had a problem with clear/silver backed CDs just the blue/purple kind.

Was there earlier today but didn't see it:(
€55 is far too rich when it can be imported from playasia for €35.

Seems that the shops etc these days are just happy to stock the utter tripe that is Fifa etc. shows that the stores have a very low opinion of their customers.

If people are willing to queue up at midnight for FIFA and it sells really well then unfortunately they have the right opinion of 90 percent of their customers.
It's pretty sad really, and my brother is one of those who looks forward to the latest release of FIFA and all that sort of stuff.

Tis sad alright but that goes to show the society we live in.
But who am I to judge eh? some people would think that people who get excited about an educational typing game a bit silly.

I would agree if FIFA wasn't a rather good simulation of the beautiful game. My brother buys it on release every year and I enjoy playing it with him, there's not that many games released these days where you can sit in the same room as someone and play with them. Incidentally he also collects obscure PSP JRPGs, so I think it's a mistake to lump people into discrete demographics with respect to game preferences.

FIFA has enjoyed what appears to be even more success than usual this year - places are actually selling out of it, and in HMV the other day I saw at least six or seven people buying it in the space of three or four minutes. I do appreciate that EA have made pains to make the series better and better though, moving slightly away from the half-assed annual cash-in (although the news about the Wii and Vita versions is brilliant :p).

My brother is one of those people who only buys it and no other game every year, though, which is a tad disheartening. Given the insane amount of hours he and his friends pump into it, I'm just surprised they don't get bored and want to play something else every so often. It's the same with considerable percentages of MMORPG or COD players though!

A spectacular tribute to gaming music and imagery. Stick around for the Zelda segment.

I'm very surprised that they haven't gone the direction of selling FIFA exclusively on XBLA/PSN.
The vast majority of people buy it for online Vs games & ultimate team stuff, so it's not like they'd alienate much of their current market
And with an effective product life of 12 months max, and the physical copy becoming relative shovelware not long after, it would make more sense bypass all the middlemen and sell directly.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,326 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Most people that buy Fifa never play it online. A lot of them aren't connected to the net. Why would EA lose sales?

You'd swear it was a brand new game every year, seems to me like that game was made years ago & it's just minor alterations to it every year. No real interest in it, but each to their own I suppose

In the case of this year's Wii version, that's literally what happened. They re-released the exact same game as last year, with roster tweaks. No, honestly, look:

    http://tinyurl.com/9cblgwg

The article jumps through hoops in order to make this sound like a proper injustice, it's not, as this version will be selling in, probable, single-digits,
but it's a cheeky piss-take nonetheless. Besides, if you've a kid that's really that keen on footy on the Wii, just get him Mario Strikers on the GCN,
    a 'cube pad 'n card, and pretend it's a Serie A sim.

Excluding the Wii and Vita updates above presumably, each iteration feels rather different to play if you're familiar with the series. An experienced street fighter player would know if you dropped a couple of frames of animation out of Ryu's dragon punch in a new edition, so changing the ball physics in FIFA certainly affects the gameplay in a significant way to those who are very familiar with the games. And if nothing else, if you play online it makes sense to move to the next iteration if the rest of the community has.

Yeah I heard mention of that in the Nintendo forum, hadn't read it yet though, cheers. I'm sure its the exception to the rule, & there are proper changes made every year, but they mostly seem like tweaks here & there and the new rosters etc.

I wonder if players didn't change on a per season basis in real life, would there still be an annual game version. I doubt it

Player transfers are generally handled via downloadable updates, aren't they? I can't be sure, I really just play two player offline with my brother.

So I take it nobody is going to buy Fifa 13 for the Wii?

Remind me to pick that one up when the price drops!

I saw Fifa 13 for the PSP the other day.
The series always seems to produce product when almost no one else is supporting a format anymore.
I'm sure there's a version for the CDi out there somewhere, probably sucks too!

Since Fifa 10 (last Football game I bought personally) I honestly think the games have been too much alike to warrant a new release. I just cannot justify buying a game thats THAT similar, people buy it for the multiplayer and I understand that, but there is no chance I would drop 40-50 quid on a game for multiplayer alone unless big changes happened. Like Super Street Fighter 4 compared to Vanilla 4 was a jhugeump in content. yet super was priced as a budget title (€30 odd) instead of full price as it was an update to the same engine, why do sports games get treated differently.
Fifa 13 could be made in 12 with some transfers and kit/sponsor updates. The changes to the engine itself are null and void. Bigger changes have been added to other games through dlc and patches. Imagine the uproar that would happen if COD dropped the single player campaign and instead charged you €45-50 for new maps, weapons and kill streaks every year. Thats how I view the yearly updates to Fifa since 10.

The new ProEvo impressed me though, its entertaining and fresh and about time they got it right and I can see myself playing it enough to warrant a purchase. The last Pro Evo i bought would have been 5 back in 2005 O_o

But each to their own, if people think they are worth the money every year who am I to say different. also sorry about the wall of text :/

While it may baffle us outside observers to see the success of the series, the reality is that for almost twenty years it has been a guaranteed seller every year (except that brief period when everyone was playing Pro Evo, but FIFA kicked them up the arse). Why would they even consider having a DLC update when they can sell a full priced disc and rake in even more than they did the previous year? Not only that, it receives both critical and player acclaim with every iteration. On metacritic every single review of the 'proper' versions of FIFA 13 is positive. No middling, no negative: genuinely universal acclaim.

Economically speaking, yearly FIFA updates are probably the safest bet in gaming.

I don't really get football games, they are way too statistic based for me. It doesn't matter how many times you shoot at goal, sometimes it just isn't going in. It's a weird compromise because in the old days when you position on the field determined if it was a goal or not were a lot worse but the few times I've played Pro Evo or Fifa I just found them really frustrating because of the lack of control the player has.

It kind of sounds weird because I love RPGs but I still think that they are less based on luck than a football game will be. It's probably why I don't mind games like the NHL series, Madden or arcade type sports games like NBA Jam because since they aren't based entirely on luck since the games they are based on have a high amount of scoring in them. In the NHL games I find the play it the one controlling if the ball is on target and fooling the keeper while in Fifa or Pro Evo it's up to hidden dice rolls.
