I love this description from the Guardian of Gervinho
And then there is the question of Gervinho. The Ivory Coast international often looks like an embarrassed teenager on an early sexual encounter; he's scoring, yet most of his time is spent fumbling around without really knowing what to do.

That's also one of his main strengths tho - sure he doesn't know what he's going to do but defenders haven't a clue either.

Would love to see Giroud start v West Ham as he seems to create and get a lot of chances but I've a feeling Gervinho will start up top again, don't think Wenger will move him after 5 goals in his last 5 games

If Giroud doesn't score against the hammers he will move closer to an expensive Chamakh IMO.:o

Really don't understand the comparisons. Giroud's all round play is 10 times better than Chamakhs. His goal scoring record is a lot better too.

In France Chamakh had 56 goals in 230 games.

Giroud had 79 in 190. A significantly better record and his last season was 21 in 36. Chamakhs best ever season was 13 in 34.

This isn't having a go at you btw its more the lazy media comparisons. Hes a much bigger talent than Chamakh ever was

    Mannone
    Jenk
    Kosc----Per
    Gibbs
    Arteta----Ramsey
    Gerv
    Santi
    Podolski
    Giroud

would be my choice for tomorrow. Vermaelen will play ahead of Mertesacker though because he's captain, which is a bit ridiculous and Giroud will probably be on the bench.

Would agree on that squad though I reckon we'll see Verm in ahead of Kosc. Wenger kind of backed himself into a corner a bit by making Verm captain imo, makes it hard for him to drop him.

That's fine, but what was, doesn't hold up in this league as we have seen many a time.;)
I didn't say he would be a Chamakh, but he's moving closer and closer.

Yeah sorry I meant to type Verm will play ahead of Kosc, dunno why I typed Mertesacker.

Bid Dam? Did you burn your tongue? :D I agree with that though, Giroud is suited to this game but I can't see him dropping Gervinho. Giroud will probably come on for 10 minutes at the end when it's basically impossible to have an impact. How will he ever get confidence if the manager doesn't appear to show confidence in him?

I read in the paper that Giroud has the mosts assists of any Arsenal player this season so he aint all bad

I'd start Gervinho up top but bring Giroud on after about an hour. If Gervinho is playing well, take off one of the wide players and put him out there for the last half hour.

I really hope Giroud will end up like Gervinho and just needs time to settle. Gervinho didn't have a good first season but has been on fire this season. Koscielny was poor in his first season too but great in the second. Some players take longer than others to adapt. Not everyone will be as quick as Podolski and Cazorla.

Whats frustrating me is that he doesn't seem to be being given enough of a chance. The game against Southampton was the perfect game for him to try and get a goal, yet he was only brought on in the last 10 minutes. From what I have seen of him I have liked, he's won some good headers from set pieces and further up the field which set up the goal in Wednesdays match.

I'd rather see Gervinho stay out wide and have giroud up front. Gervinho seems to drift wide a lot anyway, the amount of times crosses have gone in or wide players have got into good positions to pull it back and there's been no arsenal player on front of goal is pretty frustrating.

Arsene has said he has too much pressure on himself and he wants to relieve some of it by playing him little bits at a time.
    Bit confusing.

Coleman has yet to do a good thing as manager of Wales, imo. I wish he could just go and a progressive manager come in.

Our defense had a shocker midweek and defensive mistakes vs man city and chelsea?
    Steve bould me arse:/
We need a few solid wins together now to climb the table and have momentum going to old trafford!
Weve had a hard few fixtures but there the ones you need to win to challenge for titles

I agree. Also I don't understand how posters are seeing an improvement in Gibbs. I like the chap but he is playing poorly. Podolski has been covering for his defensive frailties by getting back much more than any other left-sided midfielder for a long time. Gibbs just can't cross the ball either. He has got into great positions going forward but just can't get that final ball into the right areas. He really needs to step up to the plate and I hope he does. On the other hand I was critical of Jenkinson's passing earlier in the season but he is improving well of late and making fewer mistakes. Mert and Verm have been our best central pairing so far.

I think Gibbs and Jenkinson are our two most improved players from last season. I think Gibbs has improved his defensive game quite a bit but I agree his final ball on the attack has been poor.

Jenkinson has improved across the board for me.

Gibbs is young and will improve. It's probably his final ball that's annoying me. He covers a lot of ground up and down the pitch and if he gives the ball away through poor crossing it gives him little time to get back into his defensive position. We have been caught out a fair bit down that side. West Ham used to really put it up to us at their place and were a bit of a bogey team so I am expecting a hard fight tomorrow evening but we need nothing short of 3 points.

Gibbs has improved but yes hos crossing is still poor! Shame really
West ham will be swinging balls into carolls head for most of the game lets see how mannone per and verm get on

Yeah it's a must win if they want to be taken seriously as challengers this year tbh. Big Sam's teams have always been a problem for us in the past but I'm hoping the added steel in the side these days from the likes of Arteta & Podolski(and Giroud if he plays) will be just the tonic we've needed.

I'd like to see this team:

    Mannone
    Jenk
    Verm----Per
    Gibbs
    Arteta----Ramsey
    Gerv
    Santi
    Podolski
    Giroud

Should have more than enough about it to get a win at the Hammers.
