There were plenty of times that I remember as a child where I was playing on the green outside my house until the early hours of the evening, with my parents inside, and I was never picked up by a stranger. And this was in the heart of Dublin, not an assumed idyllic neighbourhood.

Sadly these things happen, but you can't keep children under lock and key. You need to give them some freedom and I'm glad I was alllowed that freedom as a child by my parents, even if people like you do think it's irresponsible. Presumably most of us were afforded the freedom to play outside our houses often unsupervised at a young age, and thankfully nothing bad happened, but just because there are a few stand-out cases where something bad does happen (and this man wasn't even a stranger ffs), it doesn't mean that we should all of a sudden be in such a panic about having children on a leash.

Bearing in mind, that if this man is the culprit, it's not as though he was some stranger in the dark lurking about ready to pick up unsuspecting, unsupervised kids. He was a friend of the father's who, if he was really committed to taking that child, would have taken her at any time.

No parent assumes for a second that their child will be abducted outside their home. Cut them some slack.

Depends on the parents. Mine used to send us to bed around 8pm every night up until I was around 10 or 11 years old (even during the holidays). It was rare for any of us to be allowed up, let alone out, beyond that time.

I remember feeling it was so unfair as I could hear my friends and others my own age and younger still out playing.

    Different parents, different rules.

Sadly abductions have previously happened when parents were present too.

Who knows, whoever took her could have been so determined to take her he might have even done it in front of her parents. It sure as hell didn't matter to him that a load of children (who could identify him) saw him do it.

No one is perfect. All it takes is a split second. A bit of compassion for both April and her parents wouldn't go amiss here.

True enough has this not bn determined either, was she even away from her parents as such or just out of sight

One persons right I.e. a small bit of freedom for their kids doesn't have to be another persons wrong.

They are not the McCann's. her child was outside her door not out of sight and mind on a night out. Same result but different scenario.

I'm amazed at the views of members here, oh she should not have been out at 19:30, what were the parents thinking and all this BS.

Children have a right to play outside, why should they suffer because of the bastard that took her.Her family is destroyed the town will never be the same again.Lives are crushed.

Then we have a "suspect" sitting in Police station and ye saying he deserves to be treated fairly.

Tell her mother that this animal has rights we have to honour them.

For all the PC brigade on here, put yourselves in her position and it was your daughter would ye be so lenient?

"Oh don't hurt him please, just ask him nicely for the 36 hours if he would kindly tell us where she is" .

These type of crimes need to be stopped. Only way is if the predator knows if he do something like this no mercy will be shown.

I'm amazed at the indepth knowledge you have of what's happened here. Nobody has a clue what has happened to this girl. We don't know who took her, we don't know what has happened to her and what is happening to her now. We certainly don't know what will happen in the future.

Granted things don't look good. In general the longer a child is missing the less likely it is that she will be found safe but we don't know right now what the outcome of this will be.

I guess we really shouldn't be dishing out opinions or just circumstances uncomfirmed like authorities and media have, so see willy flee.

As cruel as it sounds, due process and the integrity of the justice system in protecting our basic human rights is of far higher importance than the abduction of 1 child. The alternatives (e.g. mob rule, finger-pointing, no trial, etc) are a lot worse.

Watch sky news they are talking to to members of the public.

Saying people are afraid to let their kids out, the community is devasted.

5 years old and out at 7.30 is not normal to me
    Least not in my family,
5 come on, That's way to young to be out at anytime without an adult
    5 !
My Niece is 5, If the left the room people would ask where she was going,
Outside on her own at 7.30 at night,

    No chance,

Completely wrong. Look at crimes that have the death penalty for example, people still kill people knowing that they could face death.

People don't think they'll ever be caught so the punishment they'll receive doesn't enter their heads.

He is not being tortured or beaten as it's useless, if I torture you enough you'll tell me your Jesus himself rose from the dead.

They're headcases who put any thought of the consequences out of their minds, no matter what the consequences of their actions might be. It's obvious that they don't think like normal people, or they'd never do what they do.

I've seen one reported post in which a poster implied someone was a retard. That poster received an infraction.

If there are other posts, please report them.

I doubt if Mark Bridger has harmed this little girl at all. Just a hunch. Far more to this situation than meets the eye. Regarding her father I dont know why he has kept out of it.

Why wasn't he at the press conference with Aprils mother? Could they not bear to sit together at such an important time?

very valid point that i Cant argue with but the follow is should they then be treated like normal people?

For all we know they might have a shrink on the job, which is probably standard procedure in these kinds of cases.

Not placing blame on parents or anything here but there seems to be the idea that April was playing outside here house when this happened.
    She was not.
I read the Herald this evening and they put an aerial map on to show location of her house and the location she was abducted from.
Just went through herald.ie and its not on the site but found the map here.
It's the aerial map about half way down the article with the red rings.
IMO this changes things with regard to how a 5 year little girl was being supervised.

That's a shame, you may have seen the point of the post.

It was in quite a few other papers if that suits.

I said nothing about him being a soldier.

The reason I have come to the conclusion that it is him that has April.

    (1) News reports suggest he has 6 children with 3 different women who all live in or nearby the place April got in the Jeep.So he is known to the residents of the estate. It has been reported she plays with one of his daughters which would explain why she got in willingly

    (2) Police have identified him as a suspect for her disappearance which is something they normal don't do.This suggests to me they are confident he is the last known person to be in contact with April at the very least.

    (3) They are basing their search on the area he was arrested and where his Jeep was found.Other areas are being searched since they released his image on the news. Presumably from phonecalls they received since they released that information.

    (4) They have requested more time for questioning.

Do you think Police were wrong to release this information?

If they are wrong he will always carry this accusation with him, he will be known as a child abductor. If she is not found people will always think it's him.

Would the police let themselves open to a lawsuit like that?

    I don't think so.
