Haven't followed this at all, really only catching up on it now but can anyone tell me why this Bridger guy was arrested in the first place? Like, what led police to suspect him?

They haven't said but I think it had something to do with the description April's friends gave of his van. Two of Bridger's children live on the estate and he is often there, so many of family/neighbours may have identified him from the descriptions.

I believe there is much much more to this story than meets the eye.

They have arrested a man who is in custody now for 2 days. Without charging him released his name and a picture.

He doesn't fit the bill of a kidnapper/pedophile/psycho. Has a number of kids of his own.

Rumours of a relationship with the child's mother.

"Kidnaps" a child in full view of other children in a small rural village.

There is just something not adding up in all of this for me. I can't get my head around it.

    I absolutely agree.

Like I said. Maybe it's a case that he freaked out and made up some false alibi to protect himself - and that's why the police are so sure it was him.

I'm sure they're investigating all avenues.

People don't just turn into paedophiles overnight. He's 46 years old, and has six children, and no history/suspicions? (None that have been made public, yet, anyways.) It just seems very unlikely, somehow.

You're hilarious, and if only guilty people were ever arrested then you might even have a point. But innocent people get arrested too,

I've removed your abusive comment, this not the place for a pissing match.

Time is so important in a case like this, this is why I approve tough methods of interview, even if it just to rule out suspects.

People think different you prefer the softly approach taking the accused consideration.

I'd prefer a different approach taking the little girl in to consideration.

It's what make's the world go round people thinking different.

You're absolutely right, people do think differently.

I think the right way, you think the retarded way.

You do realise that people tend to make false confessions under duress? This is part of the reason we don't beat confessions out of people.

His 19yr old son Scott was on earlier being interviewed, seemingly he's had no contact with him at all throughout his life til recently.

I'm convinced this man has a record surely. The police keep saying they knew he was in the area, he was probably on their register.

Something really not right here, see below from Sky News, why only release this now it should have been top of the agenda when she went missing.
Also on the torture side of things, water-boarding, please, sleep deprivation would make him sing like a canary and no physical intervention required, I'm totally against physical violence / torture of any type, in this case though there may not be time for sleep deprivation to work.

    http://news.sky.com/story/992754/missing-april-suffers-from-cerebral-palsy

"The godmother of missing April Jones says the five-year-old suffers from cerebral palsy and will be in desperate need of her daily medication.

Mair Raftree, 41, spoke to reporters as police stepped up the search for April who vanished while playing with friends near her home in the Bryn Y Gog estate in Machynlleth, mid Wales, at around 7pm on Monday.

"This is the third day April is away from her home and she is only little. She needs medication for her health problems and without it she will be in pain," she told the Daily Mail.

"She has been in hospital a few times for her condition and with the cerebral palsy her legs just give way. I am so scared for her and I desperately want her home."

Ms Raftree, a childminder from Aberystwyth, said April has also spent time in hospital because of her irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and needs to take her regular dose of painkillers for the stomach disorder."

If that's true I doubt there was mistake on witnesses who seen her get in Jeep.

If he had that many kids with different women in or near that estate he is well known to locals.

On a side note, why was your man arrested in this case named and shamed straight away when he wasn't found guilty and in the Jill Meagher case, they protected his identity even after he admitted everything.

BBC saying that police have been given another 12 hours to question suspect.

Because his whereabouts between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon are unaccounted for and the police want to know where he was so they can search all those areas for April. He obviously isn't telling them so they launched a public appeal for information. Within a few hours of releasing his picture and vehicle details they had the information needed to widen their search, hopefully some of that information will prove useful.

I really, really hope for his, April's and the Jones family's sakes that he is guilty. If he is innocent his life is ruined and whoever has taken her is relatively free to carry on with whatever they are doing without being caught.

So he could be released by morning..

From the new information I really think there is more to this, but don't know what.

When they released his name and photo I was sure he would be charged, but surely he would have been by now if they could. It's weird ...

I think sleep deprivation is considered to be torture.

It's better than beating the sh!te out of someone or water-boarding them, for a lie detector test all he has to say is no comment.
Not really torture per say just a nudge to get the to the truth....

It's very odd alright the way they've announced his identity. The Daily Mail says that little April spent time playing in his van before with one of his kids. If any of her dna is found in it he could say that's how it got there. That is, if he is denying it. He could've told the police where he's left her but the terrain and weather they're dealing with could still mean delays in finding her.

There's a risk of him not getting a 'fair trial' with all the media coverage. Hope it isn't so..it just never happens that suspects are announced without even being charged.

They'd wait until the last minute to give themselves as much time as possible to gather as much evidence as they can.

You wont see him charged until close to the time he is due to be released. That is if they have enough evidence by then.

Anyone saying that if they had access to this fellas cell and the evidence was stacked up against him they wouldnt beat a location out of him is crazy if you ask me.

Its a puzzler all right - the media mention he has 6 kids, then explains that he had 3 with his ex wife and another 2 with his ex partner, why are they not explaining where the 6th one comes in?

Add into that the rumours of a (prior?) relationship with the girls mother, and that the father in the picture is actually her step-dad?

Yet all six kids live on or near the estate that the little girl lived? Are they trying to hint that he might be her biological father?

I think they are certain its him and he won't talk, so they are hoping the public seen where he was between 7 on Moday and when he got arrested to get a location.

Which picture of the step dad are you referring too? The man that was with her mother in the press conference was April's step grandad, not saying it's beyond the realms of possibility that Bridger could be her biological father, he seemed to get around a bit.

No, I meant the mother got married recently. Initially I assumed that he was the bio dad and that they had had their kids then got married, but now I see someone here said that was her step dad. I didnt see the pictures or the press conference so not meaning any picure.

Since they schedule weeks in advance, aren't idiots and the film bears no resemblance to current affairs, I'll pick "coincidence". An unremarkable one.
