    Bah ha ha ha.

And after an off day against the CL holders, they're back out in force.

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!!!! We're only keeping clean sheets against crap teams, Liverpool HIT THE POST!!!!!!!!!

    Get a grip people.

    Seriously, get a grip.

Any defence looks great against **** teams.

Would you care to maybe put up posts that address some points or raise some rather than address made-up points? I've been pretty consistent since the first couple of matches. Do you see us finishing in a higher position that last season? Actually do you see us holding 3rd?

We had an off day yesterday, and Montpelier, and the first two matches of the season. That's a lot of off-days to have at this point in the season.

Said before I'd be delighted with two points from City and Chelsea.

Happy enough with one, main thing is to get back on track against West Ham next weekend. They'll certainly be up for it given their manager.

I'm slightly worried bout sanga two broken legs in a year and he is 30 I fully understand why the club are waiting a little on the contract

Both goals from free-kicks due to impetuous challenges from Vermaelen - I know it's been said before, but I think his goals and attitude can allow us to overlook his not infrequent lapses, in particular a rashness in tackilng. Hopefully Bouldy can knock that out of him - early days ...

Your the definition of an optimist if thats the case. Same old habitual bull**** today The manager crowding the pitch with midfielders and no real striker up front. Giroud left rotting on bench when its an ideal game to throw him in.

I rate Kocielny normally but the goals conceded today have become part of the culture of the club since the back 4 retired. Not good enough in my opinion. I suppose the only optimism we have at this point in time is that the manager has picked up on it but tbh if we were even in a position to sign Kompany and Vidic in the morning they would find it hard to excel with the way we defend. Its sub-standard and wont win anything

From a forward point of view im not too disappointed but the goals conceded today were a disgrace. they are the big downfall of this club. We definately have the firepower from midfield up but cant afford to go a goal behind like that or the opposition will close up shop

We've been here before tbh. Today was our first stern test - to win at home against another title contender. The pity was Chelsea didn't have to do much to get the win - easy now to say we should have played Mertesecker - but would Chelsea have scored two soft goals from set pieces? Also our corners and set pieces were not good. I couldn't understand Arsene's logic ... bring off Podolski and Ramsey for Giroud and Walcott ? Why take off Podolski when he will at least be combatative, especially when your taking off Ramsey as well ? Gervinho was again very wasteful and gave away the ball needlessly. Would have thought Podolski Giroud and Walcott was the way to go ...

Unfortunately it looks like the Diaby comeback was a false dawn. When he went off we lost our shape and confidence for a while ... but how many of us expected this ? We need a holding combatative midfielder - (they had two in Mikel and Ramires) ... I thought that we should have taken M'Villa during the summer - now I hope we don't regret it. Arteta is playing well as a defensive midfielder but he needs a solid defensive partner ... and neither Chamberlain or Diaby is it. The two full backs did well. I was disappointed with Gervinho ... yes he scored but he then proceeded to wait for things to happen instead of trying to make things happen. I think Arsene is being unfair to Giroud ... and should Arshavin have been given a chance ? Theo just looks like he wants to sulk ... did he even try ? I suppose the only way to get over this is to beat West Ham away next week ... not easy but it's what is required. I detest Alardyce ... I hope we stuff them.

I won't hear any bad mouthing about Gervinho but what is that celebration?

I don't need to say what it looks like.

Or like today we got a free sent verm up then payed a short free lost the ball, verm had to rush back ended up giving away a free which they score from

Just cut out the brainfarts too

Plus we can't cross the ball to save our lives. We badly need to get this aspect of the game in order. Over-hitting and under-hitting all day today. I wonder what they do in practice.

In fairness, the lows he's gotten were from very low points of 8-2 to Man U and that Carling Cup final. Anyone would get low at that. And the other day, he wasn't even that low when Montpellier scored first. All in all, I've serious doubts about his ability to generate good gloom from actually positive moments. Time will tell but IMO, he'll be found out to be actually cheery.

    What?

As I've said, I'm not happy with being a team whose ambition is 4th in the league and I've seen nothing to suggest that we're any better than that this season. We've won 2 matches out of 6 in the league so far. 2/2 in the cups, one against a team in the relegation zone 2 divisions below us. Getting delighted about such wins strikes me as very small-time.

Will everyone stop whinging and bickering. We have had an average start to the season -- 9 points out of a possible 18, not bad, not great.

We need to improve if we are to win anything. Simple.

Everyone calling for mert now first time he gets skint he will get murdered on here
In truth we have 3 class CBs unlucky for us two of them were poor yesterday, both are usually top quailty

With diaby out now let's finally see if coq is good enough to be a first team player im sure he is gonna get his chance

Might get ripped for this but I have changed my mind and would keep Jenks in RB until he gives a reason to be dropped
Thought him and Gibbs were brilliant yesterday

I personally think that mert n kos are our best def pairing. I wouldn't slate mert when he gets skinned because i recognise that it is one of his weaknesses. like i said before, hes the first name in def for me.

kos was off his game yesterday but he hasnt been playing consistantly, if he gets more game time his be back to last seasons awesomeness.

    Gervinho 4 (3)
    Podolski 3 (2)
    Walcott 3 (1)
    Mr. Owen Goal 2 (2)
    Arshavin 1 (0)
    Giroud 1 (0)
    Miguel 1 (0)
    Oxlade-Chamberlain 1 (0)
    Cazorla 1 (1)
    Koscielny 1 (1)

    (League goals in brackets)

Late update I know. Couldn't face the thread before now TBH.

    What happpened to Diaby?

    What happpened to Diaby?

He seemed to pull a muscle after taking a shot. Not sure we'll ever be able to rely on him. It was very costly on Saturday. Ox was his replacement and Luiz out-muscled him at the free kick and got goal side of him - this distracted Kos who was marking Torres but could see Luiz getting a free header.

He is just dying for Arsenal to lose games so he can say "na na na naaa naaa, i told you"
Anyone that thinks Arsenal should be top of the league FOREVAZ, is delusional.
The target is 4th or higher, whinging everyday on boards isn't going to change that.

Although the defeat on Saturday was hard to take - especially in the manner in which we conceded - but I still feel a lot better than I did this time last year. Also, this team does seem better equipped to take 3 points from those teams that we should be taking 3 points from.

We have a few games coming up that we should be able to take maximum points from - the ManU game comes after those and I really feel we can get a result there, despite there impressive forward line. If we can manage that then I think we can start to be positive again about a title push.

No point in having an impressive forward line if your midfield, with a combined age of 106 and the mobility of a koala can't get the ball to them.

Arsenal will run rings around us unless we start Anderson and/or Cleverley

Chelsea fan here - you lads were unlucky on Saturday IMO, particularly on the first goal. No legislating for Torres having the presence of mind to flick out his foot, and the technique to turn it towards goal.

Agree with a previous poster on Jenk - he was quality, kept Hazard quiet and got forward a fair bit himself. Has come on majorly in the last season. The fact that we had to deploy Bertrand to contain him says a lot.

A lot of mainsteam press are very down on Gervinho playing through the centre. However, I'm pretty sure I still have an old match/shoot from early in the 98/99 season, where they were having a right old chortle about Henry's misses. Wonder who's laughing now. Arsenal are still nailed on top 4 IMO.

Arsenal Under-21s v West Brom: Martinez, Bellerin, Hajrovic, Miquel, Meade, Yennaris, Wilshere, Frimpong. Ebecilio, Rees, Neita

    Look at that midfield :)

have to second that, but a lot of chelsea's success has come from sheer belief and not necessarily being the better side.
Thats one thing Mourinho instilled in the players and its carried us through against Barca and many other "better" teams.
Building a culture of belief and being winners. Thats one reason why chelsea play such a strong side in things like the Carling Cup. It may be a mickey mouse cup but it is a trophy and success breeds success and all that
