What if the house was burning down? Unlikely scenario but the perpetrators should be done for manslaughter if that happened and the occupants couldn't get out.

They could get out just fine, they just couldn't get back in.

I think you have an odd definition of 'harmless prank'.

The culprits were probably from Mayo.

They wouldn't have been able to lock the door though!

I think it would depend on the type of lock.

My door is always 'locked' when you close it; and it takes a key to open it. I'm pretty sure I put glue in it - I'd still be able to open it from the inside; but not from the outside.

If I had some glue I'd test :(

apparently one of the old dears tried to summon assistance.

    she kept shouting "UHU! UHU!"

"no i think it's stronger than that!", her neighbour replied.

They arrested a few people for this . Should be easy enough to make the charges stick....

Extremely unlikely event X Extremely unlikely event = Not gonna happen.

The first "extremely unlikely event" occurred 25 times the other night. Exactly how extremely unlikely are house fires? I personally know 3 people who died in house fires(all different fires), so your equation looks more like:

"usually rare occurrence, but does/did happen" * "also usually rare but does happen and people do die" = Someone could have died.

I'd love that, I've forgotten to lock mine a good few times.

A key that unlocks may locks.........................................
