I must the only person who is'nt following this event with rapt attention.

    Why is it newsworthy?

Because many people know her personally. Many remember her fondly from the UCD bar where she worked, and made quite the impression on many of us. Many people just care that a poor, innocent girl could meet such a horrible fate. Maybe it's just basic human concern for another person.

Because we thought we could help with CCTV footage etc, we thought there was some hope that she could be found. Maybe it was just crazy hope, but many of us thought that something might work out. Something might happen, there could be some ****ing light in a horrible story.

Why post? We're waiting for news on a tragedy and that's what you have to say? Wow.

eh...Are you for real? do you know the facts?

did you see that person pace by the cctv twice and then walk back up with her and see her sway towards the road it was obvious he is bothering her..she went missing straight after that.. she was making a call after he spoke to her...

2 other women have came forward saying it was that man that attacked them..

oh yeah a pet hate for those type of accusations.. no facts at all

get to know a case before making stupid posts

"Yesterday, police released CCTV images of Mrs Meagher taken minutes before her disappearance and appealed for six people seen in the video to come forward.
One of those witnesses, Dan Gregson, said he saw nothing untoward.
Mr Gregson walked past a man in a blue hoodie who is seen speaking to Mrs Meagher in the CCTV footage.
However, he told local media in Australia that although he does not remember the man's face, he felt there was nothing unusual about him."

From rte news, seems like people who walked by him didnt think he was odd!!!

Sad ending to this but hopefully they get the body for the family.

Poor girl. My heart goes out to her husband and family. I can't understand what type of monster does something like that.

What are you prattling on about?

Go on, give me the facts seeing as you're berating others for not knowing them.
Specifically how the man in the cctv has attacked other women.

My thoughts and prayers to the family of Jill.

a local woman came forward and said she was attacked by the same man in the blue hoody in july. it was all over the oz news the last few days. another woman said he fits the description from an attack on her also this year. the first woman was on her bike and he tried to pull her off.. these attackes were in the same area

    google it ffs!

This seems to be regular occurance in cases like these, people come forward when they realise that's what could've happened to them.

Apparently rape and murder aren't serious enough for the news now.

It was a missing person case when the headlines first started. And oddly enough most rapes and murders don't stay in the headlines for long.

Maybe its too soon but I'll throw this out. It was in the headlines because the poor girl is good looking and the media have a nice picture of her that they can use. Pretty girl + tragedy + out foreign = Good copy. If it was a fat 55 year old man who had disappeared you would not have seen this amount of coverage.

Most people don't know her from adam and no one in Ireland is likely to be able help Australian police by looking at CCTV footage so as far as i'm concerned all this coverage is mostly just rubbernecking with a sprinkling of concern to hide the ghoulishness. I find it distasteful. So there ya go.

Because a woman disappeared and the irish connection and the fact it's Australia where so many irish have immigrated too.
Some stories catch your attention and pull at the heart strings and this is one of them.
Looking at the pictures of her and her husband how could you not feel some of his pain right now not knowing where she is or what happened to her, have you any idea how he must feel knowing some man has raped and killed her and he could not help her.

if you have a look online you will def see it, maybe someone reading the posts will have a link to it.. as it was an update on news.con.au the headlines have now changed

Very good point. I'm here because everyone in work has been wrecking my head gossiping about this all day like a bunch of vultures. I had only paid the scantest of attention to this story prior to today.

Started as a missing persons case, has now developed into a rape and murder case. A rape and murder case is definitely news worthy.

Not only is this a rape and murder case, it's one involving an Irish girl in Australia - of course newspapers will report on it. If it were a 55 year old ugly fat Irish man who was raped and murdered in Australia they would report on it too.

Here's a shocker for you - most news stories which are reported in the papers and on the news do not affect the reader directly.

Okay, so what news story do you feel is being neglected due to the attention being given to this? Maybe RTE could drop this story and put an extra long segment on the ploughing championships instead to keep you happy?

    Sad news indeed

Have you a source? I've googled and it's still the same headline of them "expecting to" charge...
