I hope they find her, her husband and family must be sick with worry.

I doubt they'll find her alive which is awful.

I know this is a possibility but you have to hope she will be found alive. Not knowing where she is or if she is hurt has to be the worst thing for her husband and family.

I really hope they get answers in the next few hours/days. I know it's increasingly unlikely, but still holding out hope she's found chained up in his basement or something, still alive.

I wonder if it's the Gregson? guy who came forward yesterday? There was an article about him on this link earlier on, with a photo of him etc..., and that article seems to have disappeared from the website. He looked about the same age as the man arrested.

Lets hope they have the guilty person.

Probably the worst thing in the world for the parents. Daughter living abroad in a far away country and goes missing. They must feel helpless.

    Hopefully she's found alive.

I'm not nit picking here but her parents live in Perth and have done for many years. The whole family moved over years ago. She came over here for a while to finish secondary school and then went back to OZ.

Hope she is found save and well

I think there is a decent chance she is still alive

Police say the man arrested is the guy with the blue hoodie, no known criminal record.

hopefully she is still alive. The missing campaign got so much coverage and awareness that hopefully the guilty party was sensible and didn't do anything stupid like that

Police have said the arrested man is refusing to cooperate and that it is a full on homicide investigation so chances she is still alive are very remote.

So I guess that cleares the Gregson guy who came forward yesterday.

I remember Jill from UCD. She was a tiny girl that had glasses stacked up to roof as she flew around the bar where she worked.

This case has gotten under my skin, more than I expected. I really hope something comes of this arrest. I really hope she is still alive, but it does not look good. I'm not a praying man but today is the day for it.

My heart goes out to her family it's such a sad story.

Why might police charge him with murder if no body has been found and presumably no confession along with the possibility of more people involved in the abduction?

Is it normal practice to charge with murder with so little to go on or would police have more information not released yet?

The police are sure to have more information they haven't released. There were more security cameras along that road for a start and god knows what turned up in their searches.

But there is always hope she will turn up alive.

I reckon there's a lot going on in the background that's not being reported since the arrest... checking where he lived / evidence / prints and DNA matches etc...
They'll charge if the evidence is stacking up.
Family will be rightly kept informed of all this before we are.
My thought and prayers are with them. Poor Tom. Cant even imagine what he's going through :(

The police almost always have a lot more info that they choose not to release to the public. I'm sure they know a lot of what went on.

Still hoping for a happy outcome for this case. Can't even imagine what her husband and parents are going through.

According to a Lateline reporter over there the suspect is now helping police to locate her body, he was photographed being taken from the police station.

I think any tiny shred of hope is gone. Poor girl.

Rape & Murder Charges Likely In Meagher Case/4284826
Police have held a late night media briefing following the arrest of the Coburg man on Thursday afternoon and say they expect to lay charges in an out of sessions hearing later this evening.

ABC Melbourne journalist Hamish Fitzsimmons attended the briefing, where much of what was said remains off the record.

He says police are now trying to locate 29-year-old Ms Meagher's body.

Hope to fúck the police got to her family before the media broke this. I guess the guy confessed to the crime if they can know this before they even have the body. :(

    Poor girl. RIP

i agree surely the cops would not charge the guy without first locating a body? if they have really charged this animal, then most likely they raided his home and found all the evidence they needed. every parents worst nightmare.

from the updates it looks like this case will finished up very soon...

an absolute nightmare, from looking at the cctv footage that guy in the blue hoody looks really dodgy and suspicious.. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭MoonDancer

Anyone know what channel the press conference will be on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,076 ✭✭✭✭LordSutch

    RTE Radio 1, Newstalk, Today FM etc . . . .

    SKY News maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,420 ✭✭✭Lollipops23

Unless they got a straight confession, I'm not sure how they'd charge the rape part...?

But I hope this whole thing comes to an end soon for her family's sake. Video is incredibly creepy. If it was the man in the blue hoodie, he was very brazen about it.

I have to say, this really is a pet hate of mine.

Any time a picture of someone accused of rape, murder, paedophilia, ... people say "Oh he looks dodgy "
if you see half of these people on the street, you wouldn't bat an eyelid ..

EVERYONE looks dodgy if they've done something bad

wouldn't it be great to be perfect.

Talk about misjudging the mood. Can we talk about this another time when we are done with awaiting the newly self confessed 'dodgy' looking rapist/murderer leading Police inevitably to this poor girls body?

    Fool.

eh...Are you for real? do you know the facts?

did you see that person pace by the cctv twice and then walk back up with her and see her sway towards the road it was obvious he is bothering her..she went missing straight after that.. she was making a call after he spoke to her...

2 other women have came forward saying it was that man that attacked them..

oh yeah a pet hate for those type of accusations.. no facts at all

Can we leave the infighting for now? I'm well aware this is AH but this is actually tearing many people close to me apart. We are all desperately hitting F5 every 20 seconds in the hope of some, any news coming out on this disaster.

Can we declare a cease fire here until we know SOMETHING CONCRETE on this case. It's heartbreaking enough to watch my friends suffering so much without any news, any information. Once we know something you can call me every name you want under the sun, and I'll laugh in an After Hours kind of way.

It's a shocking situation to hope the find the body of such a wonderful person. I can't begin to imagine the nightmare this poses for her husband and family. I hate the 'oh she was x, and y' thing after something bad happens someone, but this is someone who really, really stood out as happy and full of joy.

Please let there be news soon, even if it is bad. Just so we know.
