1.6 petrol 00 Avensis. Good or bad in petrol consumption, internet is telling me 39mpg car would be on long motorway journey all the time no town and city driving.

Not brilliant, you'd want to be sitting at 90kph to get decent consumption

what do people think will happen with the new legislation coming out in Dec. that stops insurance companies from discriminating on gender. will female insurance just rise to male levels as they are? or will males possibly come down a little bit but females rise to meet that then?

Anyone know anything about Astra SRi? The 1.9 CDTi version? Gearboxes seem to be a weak point?

Think the Doc is in something similar.

swirl flaps especially, dmf and gearboxes are also weak. egr valves clog up easily and the car goes into limp mode. a remap brings them up to 190 easily enough.
a good few of the lads on AON have had problems with inlet manifold too but not as common.
blank off the swirl flaps and clean the egr regularly and it should be as reliable as any other diesel

The e30 is going into storage for the winter at the end of October when the tax is out. Looking at an Avensis down here in Bandon this afternoon.

Its boring as hell but its got tax nct and is a good price and appears to be reasonably clean.

i know this is not going to be "good and fun" for a lot of people here, but i would really love this. Tidy it up nicely, different wheels and that could be a lot of fun.

these are becoming rare too :(

Aww man, other than the wheels it's lovely.
Meant to be great fun too, the most powerful SR20 ever put out.

An acre and a GTI-R would be better fun IMO, I'm not mad for quads.
I like being comfy and dry. :D

    Quick question people:

Engine swap. Is converting a petrol to diesel allowed these days?

It was rife throughout the 80's....

Of course its allowed, you'll need to redo nct and have details amended for motor tax and maybe an engineer's report too for insurance. Not economically sensible in the majority of cases.

You do need an engineers report, but insurance companies don't like it that much. It's similar to the private tax and insurance for a van. You can privately tax a van, but you can't get it insured. It's madness!

I've been reliably informed by someone involved in the policy end of insurance that the former is pretty much the course of action insurance companies are taking.

That's what I expected tbh, absolute farce.

Wonder what my quote will be next year. Paying over a grand at the minute, would rather I was paying a lot less like!

Was going to work today, 80km/h zone.
Car in front of me is doing a steady 70km/h which is totally cool,
Came to a straight where it was safe to overtake and went by him.

Looked in rear view and noticed him flashing like crazy and arms flailing all over the place?

He then proceeds to catch up and drive a couple of feet behind still by the looks of it, cursing me blind....

He is right behind my car now so I didnt feel safe anymore so left him there.

when i arrived at work i had to wait for traffic when I was turning in and he came up behind me again, and he was still going mental???

What the fcuk was his problem?!
I overtook him safely and and wasnt acting the eegit one bit!

The way he was going on you'd think I had dropped kicked baby or something...
It really bothered me and I'm still angry at him....

Sorry just had to vent a little

ordered one of those "you're looking well guard' disc holders :-D

that new legistation for gender on car insurance. sounds fair

I remember last year asking an axa insurance person why my insurance was 1K extra just for being male.

she told me that would change with this new law.

hopefully it will balance with males going down and women going up so it's like meeting in the middle.

we can always test it out anyway !

That's what I was thinking myself in terms of the motor tax. Engineers report would be required but was wondering if it was still allowed and it seems to be :)

I sure we both know about that mess :pac::pac::pac:

Wouldn't be going down the van route though! :)
