Oh ok, so because people have committed worse crimes then him even though what he did was illegal we should let him off because other people did worse?

Must remember that if I ever commit a crime, I can always say to the Gardai that there';s other people that have done worse so I shouldn't get any time

Given the scope of corruption in this country, and my belief that whatever the Quinns motives were, they were far less corrupt than the crop of Gombeen/Shleeveen banker political class that still play golf every weekend on the more exclusive courses this country has to offer, I am proud to declare myself ashamed to be Irish! Until we, the sworn to be free, people of Ireland, reject and actively oppose the monkeys who run our bananarchy, I will remain ashamed and embarassed of my citizenship!

So even though you admit that you think Sean Quinn is corrupt you don't want to see him in jail because there are people more corrupt than him? That sounds like the epitome of whataboutary and gombeenism. The man is where he should be, his assets (which should be our assets) are not.

It's people like you that make me ashamed to be Irish.

I have good news for you OP. At least one of the main ones has gotten a token jail term. His name is Sean Qui..... oh wait, what point were you trying to make?

Save your sympathy when it comes to the Quinns. They all deserve to be in prison. Right now everyone in this country has to pay extra on our car and house insurance premiums thanks to Quinn senior's utter stupidity.

However you're right there are people more deserving of prison, including most of the recent FF parliamentary party many so called 'businessmen' who looted this this country's assets and frankly several current members of the Dail.

But no in this backward, corrupt little statelet. They go free and are even lauded by the gombeen culture that still pervades too much of this country.

The Quinns were caught on video conspiring to prevert the course of justice and defraude the Irish taxpayer. I'm ashamed that he is the only one in Jail. Senior should have been banged up and given access to a laptop and a phone in a room in the hail during the day to undo the transfer of state assets to gangsters in Russia. We should send lads over the border to grab The Nephew and jail him for 20 years for contempt of court. Then a number of the daughters and wives should be investigated for their roles in the conspiracy.

    Big deal...
he's a criminal.. criminals belong in jail

Ok there are bigger criminals out there free.. doesn't mean that he should be free..

I can't wait until his Daddy is on the top bunk, then they can keep each other company telling stories about how they tried to pull a fast one on the people of Ireland.. Daddy can boast about the Insurance levi we all pay every year on his behalf...

If putting criminals in jail embarresses you... meh, who cares!

So wait, the banks didn't have proper controls and ended up going bust due to taking too many risks.

Individually the people responsible for this made nice sums of money in the millions...

Quinn is openly trying to fleece half a billion worth of property and you feel sorry for him for harsh treatment?

What the banks did was reckless and negligent, what Quinn is doing is criminal.
There are guys in jail for trying to steal a car, I think Quinn deserves worse than he's getting.

    Fail sir, massive fail.

Actually, it's a massive fail on your part not to realise I was taking the piss out of the whole "makes me ashamed to be insert nationality/race etc" nonsense that people come out with.

I didn't see any break dancer.

@ Piliger, your position is alien to me. This may be because of our experiences. I am one of those who 'borrowed' and now face financial ruin for the rest of my life. However I am also one of those who created employment, who worked 70 hours a week, who never turned a crooked penny, who paid my taxes etc!
That is admirable. I am sorry about your predicament. It seems you gambled but lost. We need gamblers some of the time, but blaming the Gov and everyone else for your predicament is not on.
Thankfully I have found my place going forward and am not depended on my country or its economy!
    Excellent news.
I do not shy or run from the decisions I made, they were honorable then and would be still had the 'goalposts' not been shifted. I am ashamed that in Ireland we are expected to accept a public service that forecasts to operate permanently on a 90% staff (HSE) as the other 10% are permanently out 'sick'.
Those lazy self indulgent people should be fired and decent people take their places. But if you get ashamed because a few people are lazy then you have a serious personal problem.
That barely functional alcoholics can take home 90k+ because they cn not be fired while special need's kids have their therapy withdrawn.
Well I guess that results from the voters insisting on laws that prevent people from being fired and gamblers like you who contributed to dragging our economy down into the sh1thouse so that we can;t afford to offer a luxurious health care system to everyone who wants it.
If our system means we must accept a figure like Healy Rea spending 3k on phone calls to a 'chat/vote' line then fcuk the system! You can accept it, I am ashamed of it!

Seems you have a serious problem with quite a few voters in Ireland and not the 'system'. But you played your part. Thanks a heap !

I am genuinely embarrassed that we, as the great people we are, allow ourselves to be cowered and divided by a government and political system which dictates my daughter owes 17k! It is not the Quinns fault as someone stated. We are been fukked and we are letting it happen. Maybe I am a nut but if so I am a proud nut.
Well you are succeeding in being a nut and an idiot very successfully and I hope Germany enjoys your form of irrationality. I am sure Quinn will appreciate your support.

If you find a law they broke then fine. If not then stick with the people who actually broke the law.

If you want to jail politicians then I say jail all the voters who voted for them.

Bugger off and become a British Subject then. Like Petie Quinn did. :)

A proud moment for a good GAA man. His da did his level best to obstruct the opening up of Croke Park temporarily to those "foreign games" and then junior high tails it over the border to hide from the verdict delivered by an Irish court acting to uphold the laws of a sovereign Irish people.

I could just imagine it. "A daoine uasala. Ta athas an domhain orm, an pas Bhreataineach seo a glaca, ar shon teaghlach Ui Cuinn, agus ar shon gach aon chancer eile ata ina chonai ar taobh eile den teorainn.(Thomas McFeely, mar shampla).."

Let's be quite clear on this one.

The money has to come from somewhere.
The small bunch of people who got us in to this financial mess have caused cuts in HSE funding.

Excess mortality statistics could reveal the life and death impact this has.

Hear hear. The last man I heard defended like this was so defended for his wonderful works which included getting free travel for pensioners and supplying tooth brushes to every child in the state.
His name was Charles J Haughey
