Back on the horse this morning for 5 mile:D run, really nice morning but chilly as Trampas said. Must look into warmer clothes/hat/gloves etc. Had very little on today but after a mile its grand.

Legs felt great and I'm putting it down to doing a recovery run on Sunday. Couldn't resist the Ratoath 5k as it was on my doorstep, was still on a high from Saturday. Prob not smart but felt good after a slow warm up and the first mile so upped the pace and came in at 23:06, so thats a pb by 40 secs, shows the improvement the miles are giving, even on tired legs. And got a nice mug from Ratoath AC as a reward which was nice.

Doing my 19 miler in the pheonix park early on Sunday morning. Can only do a 7am start though if anyone is willing? I doubt it but I'll stick it in the group meets section but mentioning it here as a lot of us novices prob don't check that section. It'll be roughly 9:15 min/mile with a few slow ones to build up and maybe a couple at MP at the end but I'm flexible.

Thats cheating.....get off that horse and use your own legs;)

I've scheduling issues this week to try and get all the runs in, will have to miss tonights as it's my wedding anniversary, I'm very close to being divorced by my running widower hubby as it is, so I better bring him out for dinner tonight. The rathfarnham 5k is Sunday and a huge gang from my club will be running that, so I have to do it. Leaves me doing 18 mile LSR tommorrow morning. I'm going to have to put a better effort in with the fueling this time out, I seem to keep messing this up. I wish my schedule allowed me to do the LSR's with a running partner, it's definitely harder on your own. The half marathon was a confidence boost so am happy enough about tommorrow, we'll see how that pans out. (I just said I'm happy enough about going out to run 18 miles, WTF? How did that happen?)

I remember seeing a detailed log of the marathon course by someone a while ago, it gave their mile by mile account of what to expect all the way through. I'm not sure if it was on boards.ie or not?
As someone who's not from Dublin I'd know some parts of the course but once it goes out past the Phoenix Park I'm generally going to be lost until it comes back in by the RDS so it would be great to have an idea of whats out there. As far as I can remember it was done by a casual runner rather than someone like Eamon Coughlan;) so it would relate to us. If someone has it can they post a link please.

Ran Sligo HM on Saturday in 1:52:26. Hilly course and measured about 13.8 so my garmin time for the 13.1 miles is 1:47ish. Very happy with that (PB by about 10mins) so made my mind up to go with the 4 hour pacers for DCM.

Legs have been pretty sore the last couple of days. Out this morning for a 5 mile recovery run. New runners (Mizuno Wave Inspire 7) on today and they feel good. Fairly cold out and got soaked by 2 heavy hail showers. Had planned to run 10 minute miles but running felt easy (and probably didn't want to get hit by more hail) and ended up running 9:08 m/m.

    Have a good week everyone.

Happy Anniversary Deedee, mine today as well!

Bringing my wife to Inchydoney this weekend as a anniversary present, so will have to try get my 18 mile LSR done down there.
Anyone any good routes down that direction?

I'm in Bros Pearse/knocklyon runners. Would def recommend joining a club, I've improved a huge amount since joining, We've got people at all levels so there's always someone to run with. I was reluctant to join a club because I thought they'd look down on beginners etc, plucked up the courage and was made very welcome, You should give it a go.

I think I’m going to join a club after the marathon, I think it will be good motivation to keep running during the winter months and it must be nice to run with other people, I’ve always run by myself. Plus, it’s a good opportunity to meet new people which is always a bonus!

Thinking of doing the same. Bit nervous about being the slowest in the club but hopefully there'll be other adult beginners!

so breaking them in today while i am working from home today.

take them out next week for their 1st run.

6 weeks today we will all be walking like john wayne and saying never again but I am sure most of us will be looking at the next one a few days later.

Make sure to have some Cif to clean off any scratch marks this evening & remember to loosen the laces before you go to bed:D:D:D

I was the same about being nervous joining but I've never had anything but encouragement, plus when you join you'll have a marathon under your belt, there's no way everyone else will have done one. Just don't wear your medal down to your first nights training!!

Well guys... I just have to remark how amazing this whole journey is and has been. I wasn't able to get to the Dublin or Sligo half's at the weekend but I raced my own half around a 13.1 circuit in Donegal after months of doing nothing but running slow. I pushed myself as hard as I could to make the distance and came in at 1:59:20 which is about 18 minutes faster than I am doing in training and to me it was mind blowing to be able to do that. In Feb I ran my first 2 miles after doing no running for about 10 years... and wanted to stop after a mile.

It was somewhat vindicating as well as many of my mates think this running slow malarkey is nonesense, and that I should be out to set a new best every time I put on the runners. I would be a strong believer in the Arthur Lydiard school of thought in training slow to build base as well so it's good to see that the science is right. It's also amazing to see what even a month of this high volume training can do. My average HR on training runs is down about 5 beats over the last 4-6 weeks and my perceived effort at any pace is lower.

Looking forward now to getting these final weeks of training in and enjoying (hopefully) the marathon. I think I'll head out with the 4:30 pace group, and hopefully I'll be able to stay with them.

Things are quiet around here tonight.

Went for 5m tonight and struggled big time. Planned to do it a PMP but adandoned that after 1 mile! Seem to be wrecked tired these days. Milage is catching up with me!

Only 2 more LSRs and I'll be on taper! Although i think the madness has already started for me. Got the symptoms..

Yeah went out for a run myself tonight and was joined by a few men who picked up the pace so it was more of a tempo run for me. I ran a tempo run last night as well on the treadmill so I'm tired tonight. I'll try and get out tomorrow for a few easy miles and then rest up for a few days for the lsr.

I went for my 4m lunchtime run today. Still tired after Saturday's 16m, so it was slow enough. Actually got a bit hungry and light headed too, which was worrying, as that's never happened to me before. Strange too, as I had been snacking (healthily) all morning. Maybe it's time to up my food intake.

9miles tomorrow, 5 on Thursday.. but I'm really not looking forward to 18 on Saturday!

7m on Monday night, just under 8m per mile pace, felt good as the 1st run after Saturdays half.
Was going to do 3x2m this evening, but after the 1m warm up, decided to do 8x800 off 100m, as daylight was going against me (and had the dog with me!). Felt great doing them but 1st rep was 3:02 and last one was 3:17.

Going to do 9 or 10 on Wed evening, football on Thurs, break on Friday then 20 on Sat.
Anyone recommend doing leg strength work this close to DCM?

Yeah some good feeds and good sleeps will sort out the light headedness.

Just had my first run since the HM, I cant believe i just ran 10 x10 min miles which I'm amazed at, I've never run so fast(for me) so far, I felt really good and wished I had the time to stay out and run the full HM distance but stopped at 10 and finished on a high Wow!

Just a query regarding what wave I should aim to start in for the big day. My HM time is 1.42? Going signing up today and want to start in correct group. Thanks

Wave 2 is 3.30 to 4.15, isn't it? Sounds about right.

(If you're not sure which wave to sign up for, sign up for the faster option. You don't have to start in that faster wave, you can move down to a slower one. But if you sign up for a slower wave, you're not supposed to move up to the faster ones)

Missed all my midweek runs last week as I was ill and as a result couldn't do the half on Saturday. Only feeling back to normal now and will do a 5 miler tonight (following HH novice 2). Feel really bad for missing all last weeks runs, have done every LSR for the program and missed a few midweek runs, will I be ok come marathon day???:confused:
