UPC really makes my smart telecom connection look crap.

150+ is nearly 100 times faster than what we get at top speed!

    2187926439.png

Usually at night we are sub 1mb!

Eircom sucks royally - 5 miles up the road in an equally rurual part of N. Ireland you can get 50mb and by xmas it will be 80mb and this is with bt.

And your smart telecom makes my 3mb eircom line look totally rubbish!

such a variation in broadband quality though the country! speeds go from 160mb to less than 1mb for home broadband availability.

Your ping is faster as the Speedtest.net server most of us are testing are hosted by eircom and you would have a shorter number of hops.

Cannot get over 45 Mbps wirelessly on the laptop?

    Using Speedtest.net & UPC speedtest and both producing 44 - 46 Mbps

    Any ideas??

Upgraded from UPC's 25mb to 100mb today. New router installed, upload speed is increased but the download speed has not changed at all

your ping is also horrible, are you perhaps testing this wireless?

Just installed Wicklow Broadband fixed wireless in Dalkey. Huge, huge improvement from the awful eircom 1.5MB down/0.2 up I had.

Now I have ~10MB down, 2MB up and much better ping times.

If you are outside the UPC area in Dalkey, Killiney area - this is highly recommended.

Yes it's over a wireless connection, slight improvement now, but still nowhere near 100mb.

Again and again we say it, you wont get full speed over wifi with high speed packages. You wont even get it wired with cat5 when over 100Mbps, you have to use a gigabit cable(cat6) and a gigabit network card.

Of course you will get it with a CAT5e cable. If the cable is longer then 100m you wont however.

Not all 5 cables are 5e.

UPC 60Mb in Limerick City. Pretty solid speeds and pings day and night.

Typical 3 ( three) Rural broadband scheme speed. The last 2 times I complained I never even got a call back. Customer service is a joke and the broadband is dial up speed.
The joys of country living. The sad part is the government is subsidising this fiasco... surprise surprise, waste of taxpayers money!

Upgraded to UPC 100Mb from 60Mb today. It's very difficult to get accurate speedtest.net results at speeds of 100Mb or more so I posted a few. However, the UPC speed test is spot-on and my HTTP download and upload rates are spot-on.

It's not wireless but I did hook up one of my housemates' dongles yesterday to see how it'd work and I was able to get the full speed without any hassles at close range at least (5GHz band on a Netgear WNDR3700v1 using a WNDA3100v2 dongle with ~240Mb/s WLAN link speed at the time). I'm wired into the Netgear now, which is truly bridged with a Cisco EPC3925.

    Here's the UPC speed test:
    upcspeedtest.th.png

I assume you're asking all of this because you're with UPC and are having issues? If so, I thought I'd also post this for you to compare with:
I read back a few pages to see what everyone else is getting on UPC and I noticed you're still on Eircom but are looking to make the switch. I might as well leave this up in case you'd like to compare your levels anyhow, regardless of your new UPC connection's performance, and in case anyone else wants to compare:
    upcmodemnoiseandpowerst.th.png

My upload power level is a little bit high, but it has some headroom before things start to f*ck up (max ~55dBmV), so it's still well within tolerance. The rest of the stats are very much in line.

Just switched from Eircom to UPC 100mb and got the Cisco EPC3925 router

Speed last night at around 10pm

Is it normal to go down to less than 20mb at this time of day ? Should I contact UPC about it ?

Also 55mb is nowhere near 100mb. Or is that pretty much all I can expect on a wireless connection ? The router is too far from my PC so wired is not really an option

You cant compare tests when on wifi really, there are two many factors. And wifi will limit you yes. Check out homeplugs if you wanna go faster(get 300Mbps+ ones).

Ok but what about the other question ? Is it normal for speeds to go down by more than 35mb at like 2pm ? I can live with 55mb, but if it stays at less than 20mb for most of the day I might as well downgrade to the 50mb package
