Much the same for me. 7mb out of a 8mb package with VF but was told by Sky that the line is capable of 15mb and I should get at least 12mb. I have the Sky hub here and I'm due to to be up and running tomorrow,

Your Eircom line seems to be going to a BT exchange now as it says ESAT Telecommunications is your ISP and that is the name for BT Irelands broadband

Tried the UPC speed test last night, 126Mbps down, 8Mbps up; far faster than I've seen previously. Immediately tried some downloads from fast sites (such as heanet.ie) and it maxed at 16Mbps. I really wonder if there's any point to these speed tests.

Its fine to have 126Mb download speed but if the server from which you are downloading can only give you 16Mb then surely that's all you will get no matter how fast your line is.

Sure, I understand that. But I'm not getting better than 16Mbps (it's strangely consistently limited to that figure) from ANY site, bar speed tests. For instance the site I tested on above was heanet.ie, so an Irish based site with very few hops and a LOT of bandwidth (they seem to have 4 10Gbps lines with low utilisation). Also tried Apple's download sites which used to be a lot faster with my previous ISP.

This is a total rip off by Vodafone. I was with Bt when Voda took over and it has always been crap. I am having an ongoing battle with them over my broadband speed. I have had new cables installed all ove rthe house and from the Eircom pole. The computer is the on the first connection into the house. Recently they rang me and told me "great news, we are boosting your speed to 8mbps, it never happened. They now tell me that my broadband is capped at 1 mbps and they dont know why !!!. I am considering taking them to court to recover all payments made to them because they are in breach of the sale of goods and services act.

Eircom, Next Gen me hole, for me its all about ping, since 3pm today ping of 100+ can't play a single game and the DSL keeps cutting off.

BTW I'm 150meters away from the exchange box, new build house in 2005... eircom

Got a new modem from Eircom the other day. It's the ZyXel one. Since plugging it in and setting it up I've gone from 0-10ms of ping to 80-130ms of ping. I've a wired connection so it shouldn't be this bad.

I feel sorry for the 7% I'm faster than. I mean c'mon dial up was far faster than this. I'm surprised my browser even opened. All for the low low price of €20.65 a month.

    That's a wired connection.

You can select your ISP. Instead of just beginning the the test select Dublin and then your isp.

Any light on the horizion for those in 'da shticks' :(

I'm on Eircom and 'not doin too bad' :( , gave up o2 mobile b/b and might do the same with my phone - they seem to be more interested in 'priority moments - special tickets to BoneyM' than just providing a proper phone service

126Mb (megabit) = 15.75MB (megabyte) download speed, thats the speed you should see when getting a 126Mb connection, so whats the problem? as that is right
