Does anybody have a problem with nausea while fasting or sickness when they do eventually eat after fasting?

I've been doing IF 2 months now and never had any problems. When did you start IF? Do you regularly feel nausea when fasting or was it a one off? maybe your not used to it yet or maybe IF isn't suitable for you.

I'm not doing IF but I do suffer from nausea if I don't eat at my usual times and if I haven't eaten for a while and when I eat I do sometimes get sick so I'm just wondering if anyone that does IF suffers this way.

Ah I see. There's a good few doing IF on boards so maybe others have had nausea related experiences.

can totally relate to not wanting junk food.

    no sickness for me

no nausea ever but for the first 2 weeks I had been getting a really cloudy feeling in my head and unable to think straight just before I hit the gym or eat (on non training days).

I took last week off as I was on Holiday and was unable to guarantee I would get anything to eat at all if I didn't eat early, but this week I am finding it much better although not entirely clear.

Is it ok to do a heavy Interval Training session after fasting? I'd be eating straight away afterwards.

Is there any benefit to me?

I can fit in some IT in the mornings before breakfast so it would be handy if there was no downsides to it.

    120m sprints 20 seconds rest x 5

    1 min rest

    5 x 90m same rest as above

    1 min rest

    5 x 20m same rest

training fasted seems to be a personal thing. if you can do it, go for it.

read the leangains site where he goes on about the benefits.

just a very quick question in regards to IF

My workouts Alternate between after and before work, after being 5pm abd before being 6am.

My IF schedule see's my feeding window open at 1pm to 9pm.

    BUT;)

if i workout say 6-7am, can i have a whey shake and keep the timing of the first meal to 1PM

Would a whey shake with water be very detrimental to the fasting period??

    Any advice very much appreciated

its not fasting if youre having a whey shake!

Why not count that as your first meal?

Or train and dont eat after it til 1 or whenever.

The good thing about IF is the window can be adapted to suit your needs...

What time you finish the gym in evenings? An eating window of 11-7 or 12-8 would prob suit the times you train. Your morning sessions will be fasted but evening ones won't.

yeah i knew the whey would be a no go

But if i count it as my first meal my window starts at 7am to 3pm, but the night before my last meal would be 9pm so im not getting the 16 hour fast inbetween.

I figure training with no pre or post workout nutrition is a bad thing no?

just to add on the 12-8 window prob suits the best, but again this is AM workouts with no pre or post nutrition, im just not sure thats the best thing to be doing thats all!!

Not especially. Go read www.leangains.com if you can

he answers all/most of the training questions youll have.

You're supposed to have 10g BCAA every 1-2 hours if you train fasted in the morning until your meal time.

    It can get expensive, fast...

    I don't think that's quite right.
As mentioned above, Leangains recomends that if you train fasted you should have some BCAAs. I'm pretty sure that it says that it's ok to sub in whey for BCAAs. Would certainly save on cost.

Can you post it on here, I cannot find it on your site? Over what period of time is the difference, did you maintain/lose/gain muscle mass in that time?

keep seeing more and more about this.. i do IF but not the 5-2 thing there on about here

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,161 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

It's just a different type of IF as opposed to the more popular leangains. I think some posters here follow it, or at least very similar.
I've been following leangains for 9 days now. Going fine. Not hard at all. Probably undershooting calories a lot.

I think I am going to have to give this up.

    Since starting IF I have...

    Got daily headaches
Lost strength ( dont seem to be making gains in gym )
Got 2 mouth ulcers ( normally a sign I am run down )
    Got a cold I cannot shake ( v rare for me )
I still get light headed before workout and specially during
Wife tells me I am noticeably moody and totally disinterested in life pre breakfast.

On the upside I have leaned out a fair bit - but at what cost ?

Does anyone well up on the IF stuff see something glaringly obvious I am doing / not doing ?

Only thing I am unsure of is if I am getting enough cals while feeding. Could this be the cause of all my woes?

    Ta
    Rob

Have you tracked your daily cal intake since you started IF?

    Yea - I reckon I should be getting about 2.5 - 3k
I am eating close to that at least, probably 2.5k + generally.

So your getting enough cals during feeding so you can probably rule that out as a cause of how you feel.

Have you been like this the whole time you've been doing IF or is it just recently? Maybe IF isn't for you, it doesn't suit everyone.

If it was affecting my moods like that I would stop doing it. Theres no point forcing yourself to do something if your miserable and feeling run down.
